Quite right. Same as building a house among trees in a fire zone and complaining when it gets burnt, or building next to an airport and complaining about the noise. Sometimes I wonder how people can be so stupid now when we know so much more than we did a hundred years ago. If I were going to build on a waterfront property in an area regularly affected by hurricanes, I'd make sure it was behind a sea wall designed to withstand storms, just like an ex president has done with his waterfront property.

Just worked that out, then? Seems the fear mongering about nonsense like "the end of democracy" etc just wasn't enough to give him a better result. If it makes him pay attention to the real issues facing Americans, so much the better. He can still rescue his presidency from irrelevancy if he co operates with the GOP, like Clinton did after his big defeat. Likely this is the last 2 years he'll be POTUS, so hopefully he will do better.

One or a hundred, it doesn't matter as the GOP takes control and they control the money. GOP win = Biden loss. Being happy because the defeat wasn't too bad is a bit sad, IMO. Does a football team that loses by only 1 point cheer because it wasn't a "big" loss? Anyway, what's taking so long to count the votes for the house? 2 days already. Pathetic.

LOL. I did actually go to school, and it wasn't anything to do with lack of written records, as monks didn't stop writing and there were all those Arab scholars writing . It was called the dark ages because Europe went into a culturally dark era after Rome fell and it didn't end till the reformation, if I recall correctly.

Of course I know the first part of that and I never said I didn't. What I do believe is that no matter how many trees we plant as "carbon credits" it won't make the slightest bit of difference as long as Brazil, SEA and some African countries continue to destroy forests on an industrial scale; driving a tiny number of Evs in rich western countries isn't going to make any difference so long as billions of IC vehicles are driving around in the rest of the world and building expensive windmills isn't going to make an iota of difference when China and other countries are burning massive amounts of coal. I also believe that as long as climate warriors continue to fly large numbers of participants to conferences on climate change they are giving the middle finger to the rest of us.

Yeah. They usurped a perfectly nice name for a girl to refer to a female's front bits, as in "fanny pack", and a happy word to refer to homosexuality ie "gay".

Has the world gone woke or mad

Errrr, given I don't believe we have democracies, how can I "lean away" from them. As for Putin, I don't live in Russia and he's not causing me any problems. I do worry about Xi and China. If I was inclined to criticise bad dictatorial politicians the world is full of them, so where to begin? As for NZ, it's significantly less "free" now than when I was a child. Ask a farmer for proof of that. As politics isn't permitted on this sub forum I regret I can't expand on any of that as it would be pure politics to do so. -
You continue to ignore the fact that the US was affected by covid when Biden took over, and had been for some time. No western government had a better result, to my knowledge- they were all in decline due to lockdowns. the pandemic isn't over- people continue to die with covid. Was the budget deficit not caused by the covid response ie lockdowns and the need to support jobless Americans?

US midterm elections: What's happened to economy under Biden?
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
I do. Doesn't mean I agree with what he did though. -
Inflation wasn't a thing 2 years ago so can't blame him for it. Energy crisis? There was no such crisis 2 years ago and fracking made the US energy independent of imports- they even started exporting oil. So, who stopped the fracking? No supply chain issues 2 years ago, so what changed? The Republicans were not in charge when they became a problem.

Can't be honest and objective based on comparison. Either one is or one isn't. You may prefer his viewpoint to the others, but that doesn't make him any more of either than them. I get that you hate Trump, but that doesn't mean Bret is better or worse than them. Anyway, Trump is probably over, so what's the point of going on about him any more?

I certainly was, but we all get it wrong sometimes. I'd be happy just stopping Biden's agenda. -
Good for them. Nurses have had enough of being exploited and being paid a pittance for what they do. I only wish they had done it when I was working in the NHS.
