  1. I have lived in some truly dreadful oilfield sh!tholes and in that context Thailand is actually a very enjoyable place to live.

If the world was my oyster, then I would live in southern France or northern Italy, but language, cost, culture, visa and a million other reasons prohibit that.

    Straight and true

Edited twice on a short sentence. Think I get dyslectic. 555 one self

  2. Europe really is intent on committing economic and cultural suicide...visa-free travel for 80 million Turks...what are they thinking? Nothing good will come from this.

It was in the planning already ages ago (Weishaupt/Pike). The Islam will destroy the Christians and as you can see these days the whole EU government and the seperate leaders of its countries seem to like the idea of destruction. But they will go down with it as well as there is not enough room at the top.

  3. She actually means that she is fed up with you. She wants a new toy (already has one) so she sets you free more or less.

Still there is hope as she may want you to have more estime in your environment and have a mia noi like the hi-so Thai have.

Personally at that age I would opt for a one night stand or so if you can still stand it at your age...5555....

  4. Why do people come on here taking a dig at other expats?

If there's one thing I notice about TV, it's the near-universal negativity towards other farangs.

I could imagine that if I stayed around here for a long time, it could quickly wear thin

    SC

See!, now there you go. Why can the OP not bring up this issue. Are you the judge? Yeah, democracy is a word mostly used in the wrong sence. Actually there ain't any democracy where ever you go.

Matter of fact is that many farang replies are repulsive. What is frang? Is the OP not talking/typing the way you do? If I read opalred's text, my tooth curl and I have to reread. No complaints.

Edited to add. My English sucks too.

  5. If you can get hold of the homeopathic remedy Quercus in the right strength - possibly by ordering it online from a reputable homeopathic supplier overseas, I'd suggest you give that a try first.

Please, those of you who don't support alternative remedies leave this thread alone - a family member whose stones did not react to lithotriptor treatment and who was is desperate pain was recommended to try it - a day later the stone had dissolved and disappeared after a qualified homepath he knew socially recommended Quercus.

His surgeon at the local hospital had told him there was a waiting list for an operation but if the pain got any worse he should just come in and it would be done. The surgeon was amazed and somewhat impressed when he heard what had happened.

Hope it all goes well for the OP, kidney stone pain really is horrendous.

Huh? didn't know the OP started this thread to be an alternative remedies thread. So you now hijack it as such?

  6. We produce beef croquettes which are made of beef salpicon. Pretty stiff matter that will ruin the croquette magic machine. We believe you want to make potato croquettes?

The machine shown is excellent for that but to my knowledge not available in Thailand other than maybe in classified ads. Might try there or take one from Europe on your possible next trip.

Making croquettes is not that difficult. Make a ball of 'dough', roll it in flour or breadcrumbs, then roll the ball to and fro untill you get a cilinder shape. Actually better result than with the croquette magic.

Slightly freeze and batter the way you want it. Egg white and breadcrumbs is standard.

  7. Do they actually have a decibel meter? And do they know what the legal limit is? Do they know what a decibel is? smile.png

I changed my Scrambler exhaust to a Termignoni. I keep the baffle inside and measured with the phone about 90 dB but phones have crappy mics and another guy with a proper meter measured 84dB from a 50 feet distance which I think is a bit far but well within the 95dB limit in Thailand. To go from 84 to 95 is actually a tenfold increase.

And my exhaust is pretty audible. I try to not ride it in the night in order to not upset any neighbours. But it's not as loud as some Thai scooters...

From 84 to 95 is 11 dB which translates in almost 4 times as loud.

The human hearing notices each step of 3 dB as noticable louder.

so 84-87-90-93-96 is 4 steps. 96 dB is fricking loud.

HD is loud, but does it really have to be loud to perform. Rider leaves the noice behind and the whole Moo Ban suffers.

555, you might have noticed I don't drive an HD, sorry guys.

  8. Ouch Mania; as when they really drop further, you will want to go to any hospital nearby.

I've had my experience and went to Teppanya. Emergency was crowded and I was kept crawling to and fro the toilet for a while untill I got a shot of whatever that got me rid of that horrible pain. To pee or not to pee.

Stayed overnight on pain drugs and the next morning the 'stone' had gone thru.

Doctor did later on an echo and it seemed no more stones there. Gave me Alopurinol to avoid for the future.

So to actually answer your question...see my first line. Alopurinol Thai brand is very cheap. Might consider a typical diet.......it comes anyway (the stones) I guess if not for all of us of course.

  9. Ten years ago 2006 Chiang Mai wasn't much different to what is is today. There are chinese tourists now but CM is hardly a china town. Traffic is worse but it wasn't good in 2006. There is more money about now due to the extra tourists, lots of boutique hotels and smart stuff being built. CM traditionally had low room occupancy rates until recent years. Airport had all the same international flights then but not the chinese destinations other than Macau. Smokey season was the same 10 years ago but we didn't have 24/7 instant news and social media reminding us how unhealthy it was. You have to go back much further than 2006 to talk about the "lost charm".

I totally disagree with you. If you really lived in CM city or around, how can you say these things.

Traffic was okay 10 years ago

Smokey season was always there yes but worsened year by year plus the heavy traffic exhaust and you probably didn't notice the red sun in the early afternoons in 2015

You seem a bionic man since you don't feel your eyes burning and your throat getting dry much earlier than your regular aperitive time.

    2006 was still charming.

  10. It makes absolutely no sense, in the long term, to upgrade the airport at its present site.

Rather than planning 3 years ahead why not have some vision for 10 or 20 years time when access to the current airport and parking will be impossible, its a shambles now.Chinese New Year illustrated that quite clearly if you happened to get caught up in it.

The possible sites mentioned before were Sankamphaeng or San Patong and serviced into the city by a mono rail or similar. That of course would be decided by the "decision makers" that own nearby land which would increase 10 fold in value.

Chiang Mai is slowly creeping up to total grid lock in peak times or has nobody noticed ?

Chiang Mai is slowly creeping up to total grid lock in peak times or has nobody noticed?

Hence, why I prefer to drive a motorcycle in-city. The car is fine for transiting between Chiang Mai and our village in Lamphun Province. Once in the city though, I simply steal my son's motorcycle. Heck, I bought it! Lol.

You are so right. These days going into the first ring circle is asking for trouble. That is if you go in between 07:30 - 10 AM again at around lunch time whatever length that is, then around about 15:30 to about 18:30. I do biss in Chiang Mai but try to avoid the times mentioned as much as I can. Hilano

Edit: Sorry, actually traffic is off topic

  11. The mind boggles....Wonder if these 400 are enjoying the

hospitality of Germany and Sweden before they bomb

them ?? Merkel really screwed the pooch with her insane

    immigration policy.....

Merkel did a great job. She is a part of the elite agenda and as such she is just doing what she is/was told.

Sheeple are so ignorent in thinking this is all about poor refugees. If that was so then I have to call all those young strong male immigrants cowards.

Fleeing your country and trade it for a country of infidels? Surely enough countries that are Islamic, right?

    Only one conclusion: invasion.

  12. Difficult to access and nowhere to park even now. Needs to be out of town for any expansion especially if they are looking at 24 hours.

Actually parling is nigh on impossible. If they build a new terminal I guess they'll have the sense to treble the parking area . Hopefully they will also put an end to the scamming of foreigners by the car park attendants.

    A taxi costs 150 - 200 baht. I don't bother attempting to park there.

Agreed if you live somewhere around the city. Different when you live further away I guess. If price is no matter, then getting a taxi out there in the fields is the next problem.
