  1. I was lucky enough to buy my house then, in cash. And, the way things are going, I think a return to that rate is more likely than not. It's just a question of when. But what caused the crash then wasn't the political situation or high personal debt, it was the Bangkok Bank of Commerce handing out huge unsecured loans to their friends which eventually led to the bank's collapse.
  2. The same situation has existed for many years. Certainly for as long as I can remember.
  3. Now isn't that interesting. Perhaps we can expect the Chang owners along with their advertising team to appear in court any day now. Or whenever hell freezes over. Again - one rule for the rich and another for everyone else.
  4. Yes. And, sad to say, that anyone stupid enough not to know that the shares he held - worthless or not - would provide a lever to prevent him becoming PM is not the kind of person I'd want to see as PM. I mean, how naive can you be? Not only him, but his advisors. I know that many Thais have the mind of a child - some find that an appealing trait - but it isn't something you'd expect to see or want in a leader.
  5. It takes two to make a baby. But although there are plenty of comments there is not one about the responsibility about the boy(s) involved.
  6. He didn't only show the beer but spoke proudly of it too, which makes that a promotion. But the charges are still ridiculous, although he gave the dinosaurs an opening to kick up a fuss. Similar to Pita not declaring his worthless shares. Give the dinosaurs an inch and they'll take a mile.
  7. Why? Please explain why we might not like what the people voted for.
  8. But but but they promote water, and no-one would ever associate their name with that evil beer stuff. I remember several years ago some ridiculous tv ads of people dancing in the street and being ecstatic over their bottle of Singha or Chang water. Absolutely pathetic.
  9. What 'actual data'? And on inward flight capacity, do they expect every flight to be full? If so, based on what? Do they take the economic situation in the countries these tourists come from, both now and what they think it might be over the coming months?
  10. I was going to ask that myself, but gave them the benefit of the doubt.
  11. I've seen two, including a dog discovering one baby that had been dumped to die. Both no doubt born to young mothers with the mind of a child, totally unable to cope. And yes, before the comments, it doesn't only happen in Thailand.
  12. I had a quick look for the video but couldn't find it. No link, no name of the FB poster?
  13. I suppose drivers using the 'illegal' crossings responsibly is out of the question? Ah, there's that alien-to-Thais phrase - showing responsibility.
  14. That lead to the manager being sacked by the Thai owners. But that was just for show, as they then employed him at another club they own(ed), I think in Belgium.
  15. Headline: Up to 30 million visitors expected this year Based on what, exactly?
  16. The photo shows young men/youths working. Nothing wrong with that - unless they've had no training. Have they had proper training? I very much doubt it.
  17. Her getting a different job out of the bar instead of you paying her a 'wage'. You know, like normal women do.
  18. Absolutely right. Too late now to undo it now.
  19. Please do not put the USA and Thailand in the same category as the UK. That is plain stupid. BTW, I've read several times that, based on population numbers, there are twice the number of gun deaths in the Land of Smiles as there are in the USA. Putting low intelligence and lack of self-control together with guns is never a good combination.
  20. There are plenty of places, most actually including my native UK, where people don't feel a need to carry guns to protect themselves. Many lives have been saved by citizens carrying guns applies to very, very few places. Apart from some places in South America dominated by the drug trade, only one country stands out where people feel the need to carry guns to protect themselves. Everyone knows that. It's probably the most outstanding image of the USA that the world has. Another mass shooting - yawn. Seen it a hundred times already. Guns are not a positive - ever.
  21. Well, one thing I do miss is proper fish and chips, and every pub I go into having several beers that I've never seen before instead of the 'standard' five or six in 95% of Thai pubs. But prices there have got ridiculous. I am old enough to remember walking out of a pub as they were charging 3/3d for a pint of brown. Not that I rate where I live based on what beer is available. Two things that really depress me about living in Thailand though are that nearly everything electrical you buy is made in China and it's often crap, and the reality of something a Korean I worked with briefly summing up Thailand in just six words - the standards here are so low. Suffering - and I use that word deliberately - from being a perfectionist, that is often difficult to accept and very frustrating.
  22. How do you know that? Has there been an independent survey that I've missed, please?
  23. People too ready to jump on the bash Thailand wagon.
  24. This is about outbound tourism and Thais not travelling as much. Nothing to do with visitors.
