  1. Why would the US have even the slightest interest in a country that has no influence in anything anywhere? The country is a total irrelevance on the world stage. Unless Biden confuses it with Taiwan, which of course is a possibility.
  2. I don't think anyone has ever doubted that. No-one has denied it, including the dictators. It's just the way the country operates, and has done for the past nearly 100 years. Why should it change now?
  3. This once again calls into question what planet the Party inhabits. First, we had Pita retaining shares, however worthless, in violation of the election laws which could ban him from being an MP, let alone PM. And now they fan the flames by waving a red flag to the bulls. Alice Through the Looking Glass.
  4. The dead man didn't take long to drive like a Thai, pulling out of a side turning without looking. There can be consequences if you do that and we read of it every day, but the message never gets through.
  5. Not the brightest light in the room. No thought that he might be captured on CCTV. And then advertising his stolen goods on social media for anyone to find. That happens a lot here. No thought that police might - do - use social media in their investigations. Often, it seems, they find people, usually teenagers, trading people for sex - on a public forum. Just today we had a report of one such brain-dead idiot doing it on Twitter.
  6. Thai-style parenting. No discipline, let their kids so whatever they, whenever they want. And we all know the result of that in later life, don't we. Man-children with no self-discipline who react violently when someone says no to them. Just part of Thai culture.
  7. Amazing, the things people in Thailand will do for 200 baht.
  8. Your experience doesn't match mine. As for dealing with Thai banks, I needed a new ATM card and went to the main Bangkok Bank branch which is where I have my account. I wanted a Mastercard one and not Union Pay. Since I got my original card I had changed my passport, so it took about and hour and at least 15 signatures (I lost count) to get my new card.
  9. It is. Except the tip-off might also warn there's more than one mule.
  10. Where did you read that? Or did you just make it up?
  11. The family has sought help from Police Lieutenant Colonel Jirawat Thongtha after local police refused to accept their case, insisting it was an “accidental shooting.” Ah, that's okay then. It was just a misunderstanding. He meant to shoot someone else?
  12. The people do not choose the PM in the world's longest established democracy, the UK, either. They vote for a Party, and the few members of the winning Party are able to vote for who they want among candidates for PM, if - if - the post is available because of a resignation. But the Party MPs still have the final word. Happened only last year, when the Party chose Liz Truss even though she wasn't the first choice of the Party members.
  13. What the Thai government does make no difference to us who live here?
  14. Yes. I deleted my comment, but not before you spotted it.
  15. Later, in the linked article: Upon investigation, Phromraksa confessed, and a check on his history revealed he had been accused previously of drug offences. And: Following the procedures, he was delivered to the local police station in Chumphon to further the investigation and legal proceedings, reports KhaoSod Online. And he looked pretty alive in the photo. Am I missing something? Isn't the headline totally false? Can Thai reporting get any worse?
  16. Agreed. Thailand doesn't have any influence anywhere in anything. What happens in Thailand is only of interest to those within its borders.
  17. It is blatantly obvious to the rest of the world how utterly unsuited Trump is to lead the country, or lead anything else. And it is of great concern to the rest of the world that tens of millions of Americans believe he is the best person in the entire country to lead it. And, as a result, he and they have irreparably damaged the image and reputation of the USA. That might not matter to his supporters, but it matters to those Americans who recognise him for what he is rather than who he says he is, as well as those outside of America who can only shake their heads in despair.
  18. Exactly right. His supporters are blind to all his faults. And those supporters are too stupid to realise that what they accuse others of doing, they are doing themselves.
  19. If people in Thailand don't work they don't get paid. They don't receive riot leave pay. Bearing in mind that we often read of the debt burden that Thais carry (often no doubt because of buying things they can't afford so that they gain face) then they can't afford to stop working for the weeks and months it would take to make (or not make) a difference.
  20. What did the girl's parents think? Oh, another case of them not wanting to raise their own child, just having her as an insurance policy for their old age? Happens far too often, with the grandparent having enough problems dealing with themself as they get old, let alone handling a child. How old was this girl anyway? Strange that isn't mentioned. Five, 10, 15, 20?
  21. The problem is that the goons have tanks and water cannon with an irritant added to the water, and bigger guns than those illegally knocked up in Somchai's garage. Riots rarely if ever achieve anything, anywhere. After a few days, after protesters have burned down their own neighborhood and then find they have nowhere to shop anymore, they all fade away. At least in Thailand they keep up the fight for weeks or months, but at the end of it all history has shown that they don't really achieve anything.
  22. Incorrect Pita is a MP he was endorsed by the EC a couple of weeks ago, along with the rest of them he will be able to enter parliment What I wrote is correct. What happened two weeks ago is irrelevant. It has been overtaken by what happened today. #BREAKING: Thai Constitutional Court has ACCEPTED @EctThailand to seek ruling on @Pita_MFP’s eligibility to run for office despite allegedly knowingly holding media shares despite not allowed to do so. This also means he will be suspended as MP before his PM vote on Thu.
