  1. They'll spin it as part of the excitement of being a tourist in Thailand, a thrilling adventure they can tell all their friends and family about when/if they return home.
  2. Anyone can be a parent, no qualifications needed. Certainly less than you need to flip burgers in McDonalds.
  3. Applies to so many things in Thailand. Except the part about actually using professionals, people who (might) know what they are doing. Thai no need, mista. I have nephew who know everyting.
  4. You could say exactly the same about some parts of the American constitution.
  5. Not the first case I've read of someone being murdered over 100 baht and it won't be the last. Life is worthy absolutely nothing in Thailand - strange for what they claim is a Buddhist nation.
  6. Oh, how original. Never read that before.
  7. The Thai system is that he has spoken, made his recommendations, and his job is done. Anything that happens later is not his responsibility. You, I, he and everyone else knows that what is said will be ignored and will not be enforced, but that is not the point. He has acted, done what he considers to be his job, while actually doing nothing. This happens all the time, at least once a week. Someone makes a declaration and the next day it's ignored and forgotten. But that person has done their job by 'acting'.
  8. Several months ago my sister-in-law experienced a very similar brain-dead motorcyclist event, when an elderly woman was crossing a busy road to the other side and thought it was okay just to look one way when doing so. It wasn't, and she died. CCTV showed my sister-in-law was not to blame. You just can't help these people.
  9. He's the only incumbent democratic president. Just the one. My point, which appears to have eluded you, is that out of hundreds of millions of people in the USA, Biden and Trump are the best the country can find to contest the Presidency. That is remarkable.
  10. Really??!! You feel it appropriate to make such quips when a person has died? I sometimes wonder why people are so ready to post items that highlight them as a moron. I can only assume they have no idea that is what they are.
  11. You really think you're funny? Really? I, and no doubt many others, have news for you.
  12. There are over 330,000,000 people in the US, and there are no alternatives?
  13. The suitcase broke off two of the 'teeth' at the end of the walkway. I have no idea how that led to a part of the walkway to collapse for the woman's leg to fall into, and I've seen no explanation of that anywhere. Seems impossible to me. And there has been no photo that I've seen that even shows a gap, part of the walkway missing. Even the photo of the woman laying there showed no gap. It's a total mystery to me.
  14. I'd guess you are more likely to be right than wrong.
  15. You assume that none of what you say was done. There have been plenty of claims that regular and frequent maintenance takes place, and to international standards. You are assuming that isn't so, but with nothing than experience elsewhere in Thailand to back up your suggestion that the job wasn't done properly. Maybe it was, maybe not, but I don't know and neither do you. In fact, they were dislodged by the woman's suitcase that she, according to her, tripped over as she prepared to leave the walkway. - a suitcase that should have been checked in and not taken to the plane. But the check-in desk don't care. If they had done their job then the woman would still have her leg. Even if she did self check-in, there are always staff there monitoring and ready to help anyone having a problem, who should have told her to check the suitcase in. Should the travelator have broken? I'm not an engineer so I don't know, but I do know that sometimes things break with no warning, no matter how well kept they are.
  16. The teacher revealed to the media that the school board is worried the sexual assault will make the school look bad if the rape is exposed to the public. The teacher said she wanted to hand over CCTV footage of when the security guard took the student home but the board tried to block her. However, she managed to get the footage to the police. The school is now in the process of suing the teacher for handing over the CCTV footage. What a wonderful society. Perhaps the teacher can countersue the school for damaging her reputation. It works both ways - doesn't it? Maybe not.
  17. They are maintained regularly, with the errant walkway checked a few days before the incident. One report said the night before. How thorough they check none of us have any way of knowing, but to say they haven't been maintained for 25 years is ridiculous.
  18. Please explain how it is 'on its last legs'. In what way? It's hard to believe you've used it, if you can make a declaration like that.
  19. Don't you just love Thai culture. My theory is that it's because every Thai from a very young age is taught their place on the social ladder, and everyone is looked down upon by someone. Frustration and resentment builds and builds, and suddenly they 'do a Popeye' - That's all I can takes, I can't takes no more - and they reach for the can of spinach. Or, in Thailand, the nearest gun or machete or stick or iron bar. There is so often little or no moderation in their behaviour. Which can make them a very, very dangerous people to upset. Don't. Ever. The consequences could be extreme and disastrous. Add in the fact that the most violent crime is often committed by the least intelligent and the fact that, according to Google, the overall IQ of Thais is way down there at 88%..... Those who are the most violent are usually those who are the most stupid, as they know no other way to express themselves.
  20. I'd love to know how many return visitors Phuket gets. I always tell potential visitors to avoid the place at all costs. I'm amazed, with the reports on social and mainstream media, that anyone goes there.
  21. Just today's expected report of yet another male wimp killing his wife or ex-partner etc. There'll be another tomorrow - which is what I also wrote yesterday and I'll no doubt write tomorrow. Just part of Thai culture. There are things we can bet the house on that we'll read of on this site every day: a wife/ex-partner beating or murder, a motorcyclist or three has died, a sedan/pickup/lorry has overturned with fatal consequences, often after hitting a power pole by the road. Just a part of everyday life here.
