  1. You do not need to be retired to have a retirement visa. Thai logic. That might be your best path. They like that - less paperwork for them. They try to make me go that way but I have no burning desire to pointlessly tie up 800,000 for months of the year to satisfy them.
  2. That is your personal opinion, I'm guessing, as I've seen no poll. My wife and her family and friends out here in the sticks would not agree with you. They detest every part of the current setup. Every part. I'll leave it there.
  3. He held the shares at the time of standing for election. The fact that the company has ceased trading is irrelevant to the law and anyone looking for the slightest and pathetic basis to ban him. He gave the court that opportunity, which was down to ignorance, naivety or arrogance by both him and his advisors..
  4. Ah, if only he hadn't broken the rules by holding shares. Anyone naive enough to do that and think it would be ignored hasn't got the brain matter to be an MP, let alone PM. Sad but true. Right, let's have a bet on when the tanks will roll.
  5. Very hard to control a vehicle carrying so many people. Not designed for that, especially in difficult terrain. You just can't help these people as they have no idea of the danger, and even if they did they don't care.
  6. More to this than we are being told. One - why did they pick on her? 2 - they let her video the shakedown on her phone, as mentioned in a post above? You can't do that by stealth. Maybe she recorded sound and the Thai news sources about her videoing it is poor reporting. Nothing unusual there.
  7. If the info isn't compulsory - ie no red asterisk - then why is there even a box there to fill in? And why does it matter what gender you are? Bizarre.
  8. You've clearly been here too long and are acting like a Thai - the law is inconvenient so it doesn't apply to me.
  9. The world doesn't care. The country and its government has no influence and is of no importance to anyone and anything anywhere outside of its borders.
  10. The 'political solution' (denying the people the government they voted for) will bring protesters and rioters onto the streets. That's a positive?
  11. It's not 100% clear as other lights might be in play and reflecting, but in the photo the lorry's lights look pretty bright to me.
  12. It's a sickness, a mental illness, isn't it. No-one needs that amount of money, that number of cars etc.
  13. Well. it's a bit late now to protest the role of the senators. They were hand-picked for one purpose and one purpose only - to deny the people the government of their choosing if they voted the 'wrong' way.
  14. Thais probably think the yellow line is there for decorative purposes, as they do road markings and pedestrian crossings.
  15. I've often seen Thais hesitate before stepping onto an escalator. I guess that knowing what to do when they arrive at the other end can be a bit challenging too. They sometimes also have no concept at all that you do not stop after you've got off, blocking the people behind you from doing so. Similarly, I remember reading on this site of a farang living his girlfriend in an apartment block, and her mother came to visit. At one stage they decided to have something to eat and the mother said she'd go fetch. A long period passed and she didn't return so her daughter decided to go and look for her, and there she was standing by the lift, waiting for it to stop at her floor. She had no idea that she had to push the button.
  16. Who? Those of us who don't want to give them any excuse to be difficult down the road. Those who want to stay on the right side of the law. I assume, from your flippant comment, you don't. That might come back to bite you, but your choice. Carry on giving them an excuse to refuse your next visa/extension as you arrogantly refuse to abide by their rules.
  17. A perfect example of Thai logic. Outstanding! You couldn't make it up. Imagine the level of intelligence that came up with this.
  18. Or not require 90-day reports at all, treating foreigners who are here legally as if they are criminals on probation.
  19. Yes. And comments are about the way foreigners are treated compared to Thais.
  20. On the rare occasion my card is blocked (usually my UK HSBC ATM card) I have contacted them and sorted it out. What has annoyed me is that three years in a row, and at the same time of year, I wanted to use my ATM card in Dubai and it was blocked and I had to contact them. They clearly can't be bothered to check historical use. Just blocking and inconveniencing people is so much easier. For them, anyway.
  21. Whether it is illegal or not would be of no interest at all to a Thai. Same as any other law.
  22. I would never buy anything advertised on FB. I got stung once, but PayPal got me my money back. Even if the product is genuine, FB is a Cheap Charlie way of promoting it. Proper businesses invest in a website.
  23. Yes. They'll promote the inevitable upcoming riots as a tourist attraction and then claim it has doubled the number of arrivals.
  24. The world doesn't care. What happens in Thailand is important only to those inside its borders, nowhere else.
