  1. Makes no difference in Thailand. Last week someone was murdered over 100 baht.
  2. Yes. Along with bits falling off of expressways.
  3. A 26 year old Thai vendor, who sold durians at the side of the road, Yothaka Ramwong, told ThaiRath that accidents always occurred at the scene during the heavy rain. Some locals believe that there is a ghost living in one of the roadside trees that takes their lives but the vendor does not agree. She thought it was the condition of the road which relevant government departments should pay attention to. Nothing to do with the standard of driving, then. At least ghosts are - probably - not to blame.
  4. Reminds me of a report on Thai Visa some years ago. A foreigner hired someone as night watchman at his factory, and on the first night Somchai rolled up with a pillow and blanket - and probably still wonders to this day why he was fired before he even started.
  5. black pick-up car wreckage Despite the extent of the wreckage, the pickup clearly isn't black. If you are going to report the colour of the vehicle, which is anyway totally irrelevant, at least get it right. Jeez.
  6. Yes. I always download any YT videos I want to watch, several a day, and transfer to a usb and play on my tv. There are several programmes to do that - Convert Youtube, YouTube downloader, savefrom dot net etc
  7. What did the doctor tell you? You have consulted a doctor, rather than readers of AN, haven't you?
  8. Channel 7 added that another woman, whose nationality was not reported, was questioned before the foreigners, but she also refused to provide information. In the photo she's wearing a mask, so probably a Thai still living in 2021.
  9. My wife told me his phone signal was picked up near the Cambodian border, but I haven't read that anywhere.
  10. Like fake Gucci etc goods. I would consider subscribing to Sky channels, but they refuse or are unable to sell to the millions of potential expat customers around the world. I have no idea why. While they can't or won't, others can and do. Simples. It reminds me of the 70's (?) when Napster made music available to download. The record companies and authorities got their knickers in a twist, before eventually the companies themselves made music available for download. Maybe TV will also catch up, eventually.
  11. I happened to be there when they did their once a year practise drill for an emergency situation. Ambulances arrived and volunteers covered in 'blood' and bandages were wheeled in with various degrees of injury. Quite impressed with the way it all played out. Especially for a village hospital.
  12. Thank you for your comment. My local village hospital is excellent and 10 minutes away. It's just that they take a very circuitous route to achieve what should be a simple routine.
  13. “Critical to positioning Thailand as an international event and entertainment hub is efficient urban planning and infrastructure.” Contrarily, an advisor to the Thai Exhibition Association, Pravit Sribanditmongkol, challenges the country’s record in city planning, especially around integrating exhibition centres with public transport. Impact Arena and exhibition centre. One local bus route.
  14. Dumped his family to come and make more money in Thailand. Nice guy.
  15. I've put this on this site two or three times, and now Stickman has published it. It is beyond government help. Far too late. https://www.stickmanbangkok.com/readers-submissions/2023/07/thai-driving-makes-life-a-lottery/
  16. I'm very surprised that it takes so long for you to download. I rarely take an hour, often far less, to download an eight or 10 episode series. Now, back in the dial-up day, that was slow and could take all night or longer. There is software you can download to resume downloads, which I used to use back then.
  17. Not easy if you live in the countryside. It is what it is.
  18. I've sometimes read of people being rounded up from a bar or club and put in the back of a police pick-up (riding in the back of a pick-up is actually illegal, but we don't expect the police to obey the law, do we). And when they arrive at the police station everyone just jumps off and runs away. I love this country. It's like living in a lunatic asylum. Sometimes it's dangerous but it also provides plenty of laughs from the antics of the inmates.
  19. The very small towns, little more than villages, near me have private clinics, often only open in the evening and usually employing hospital doctors who can earn extra. They are very well utilised. My wife has an allergy, maybe hay fever or to our dogs, and she attends one for that.
  20. Register when you arrive, collect your medical records, check blood pressure (use a number of machines as, as mentioned above, they all give a different answer so what's the point? Check weight. Wait. See a nurse who asks if you have any problems like dizziness. Wait. Be called forward to queue to see the doctor. Wait. See the doctor for three minutes to say there's nothing wrong. Take medical records to another desk with the list of drugs prescribed. Wait. Be called forward after they've listed the info into a computer. Go to the dispensary. Wait. Why the doctor can't just send the list of prescribed drugs directly to the dispensary, i have no idea. All the info about me and drugs prescribed are on the doctor's computer, so why does it have to be entered again? I swear that if Thailand introduced a time and motion study then at least half the people would lose their job. Maybe that's why they don't. Maybe they will, as labour becomes more expensive.
  21. I also have to go to my local Homo Sapiens Maintenance and Repair Centre to see my drug dealer, who then sells me a further four months supply which controls blood pressure etc. Once a year I have a blood and pee and diabetes check, and everything has been stable for years. Seeing the doctor to get my new supply is a waste of her time and mine and I've told my wife what an inefficient system it is. She says it's the Thai way and I reply yes, that's the problem. Maybe now things are changing. Thailand often does catch up with the outside world, eventually. One thing I learned over the years is to not do it the Thai way and turn up at dawn and wait with the multitude for hours. I go after lunch when there is hardly anyone left in the queue. Fortunately, the locals haven't got the common sense to not all turn up at once, and long may it remain that way.
  22. In the UK, to get a certificate excusing you work for a week?
