Drunken Bar Brawl Leads to Scotsman Being Hit by Car in Pattaya
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
It mentions an altercation in the bar, but is that a brawl? I suppose brawl makes for a better headline, even though there is nothing at all in the report to back it up. -
Seems like the foreigners did start the fight and they began punching and breaking noses , I wouldn't be surprised if they did get charged Fine. As long as the thug who aimed the kick is charged too. So far, no word of that, even though the police said they were waiting to hear from the victim of the kick.

All of this could have been avoided if Thai bars operated like most other bars in the world (and in their UK) and you paid for each drink when it is ordered. How difficult is that? But for some bizarre and unknown reason every bar here lets you run up an unlimited bill with no certainty that it can be paid. And sometimes, when the drinker loses track and can't pay, all hell breaks loose. I don't get it.

Pattaya Begins 3.1 Billion-Baht Underground Power Line Project
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Now, if they had buried the cables in the first place they could have saved 3.1 billion Baht. But then so many later contracts opportunities would have been sacrificed. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Many people DO spend 180+ days in Thailand - retirees, those with a Thai wife - and in answer to your question, it's not a one-off and they'd get you in December 2025. -

Thailand Faces Mental Health Crisis as Millions Affected
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I agree. But I think much of it is down to poor education and lack of parental guidance and an inability to express themself in any way other than with violence. There also appears to be an alarming degree of intolerance, with everything either black or white and no opposing view accepted. That is cultural, rather than down to mental issues. Add in the saving face nonsense, which often results in even more loss of face with a jail sentence. -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Very many on this thread are confusing the kid fleeing the country, and the accusation that another member of the family paid a bribe to officials to look the other way. The legal action that this thread is about only concerns the latter. -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Notice how the poorest countries in the region are the most corrupt, and the richest are the least corrupt? It isn't by chance. Of course, those with the largest overseas bank accounts don't care about that. -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In Thailand it doesn't matter whether you have that. You have dirtied his name, guilty as charged. Whether it is founded on rock-hard evidence is completely irrelevant. Just another example of Thailand being a third world banana republic where the truth is worth nothing at all. -
Truck driver dozes off, killing two and injuring five in Chon Buri
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
It would be disabled and there would be no check on them anyway. As you say, no-one actually gives a rat's fart. Thailand - Hub Of Apathy. -

More great reporting from The Thaiger. And what the heck does that mean? -
Every guide book about Thailand and its culture will dwell on the closeness of Thai families. That has as much legitimacy as calling Thailand the land of smiles. I've read several times that Thailand has double the number of gun deaths as the USA, with the difference between the two being that in Thailand they are largely due to domestic disputes. That may or may not be true - I've read 'statistics confirming and denying it.

Thai Man Appeals for Help Repatriating Overstaying Russian Family
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Seemingly with an unsympathetic ear..... so many in dire positions end up in a detention centre..... I'm guessing you didn't read to the end. Weerachai Tinkamut, an officer from Chon Buri Provincial Immigration Office, supported the family by giving them 2,000 baht in cash. That's a good sign of sympathetic treatment, surely? -

I thought at first you were writing about Thais. Your comment fits many of them perfectly. -

You haven't got a clue, have you. The Russian government elections have even less credibility than the ones in Thailand.- 107 replies

Apology from Pattaya Pub Guards after Assault on Tourists
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
What would you call kicking someone hard in the head? Perhaps if someone did it to you then you might find how dangerous and potentially lethal it is. Clearly, you are too ignorant to know that such action can lead to death. And that is called attempted murder. Your juvenile reaction? lol. -
Thai man’s high-speed driving ends with minor injuries
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
When I lived in Bangkok I was convinced that I would die in a taxi that launched off such a bridge. Now I live up-country I am convinced I'll die in a head-on collision with a vehicle hurtling towards me on my side of the road. The last three times I've been out I've had to stop or slow and pull over to the side of the road to escape death. -
Apology from Pattaya Pub Guards after Assault on Tourists
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
In answer to your questions, apparently so. But write about all this in the wrong place or in the wrong way and they'll be knocking on your door to accuse you of damaging the reputation of Thailand, causing unrest and being a threat to national security. -

No-one has said all Thais behave that way. The ones you write of are not the problem, are they. People have written of what happened in this instance, and you and I know that the same kind of violence occurs anywhere in the country on an almost daily basis. -
Woman's 10,000 Baht Loan Spirals into 2.6 Million Debt
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Whether something is illegal or not has no relevance in Thailand. A perfect example in the past couple of days is no action being taken against the thugs who attempted murder in front of witnesses and on CCTV in Pattaya. They apologised to society, case closed. -

Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I've lived in Thailand for 27 years, both in Bangkok and up-country, and been married to a Thai for 33 years, so I think I have a very good insight into and knowledge of the country. I also read the news, and there are several reports a week of excessive violence. Maybe you need to read more. As for your ps, I didn't crop anything. It was a screen shot of a video meant to show the vicious and unnecessary attempted murder by the thug in black. If you want to see more of the woman, who I didn't even notice as that wasn't the focus of the photo, then I'm sure you can find it elsewhere. Why do you care about that? -

Can you imagine a Thai without a phone? I can't. And how would you travel around, with no car or train. And how would you even get to Thailand? Thais invented none of these things. Nor electricity (which they are still trying to master).
