  1. 270 to guard seven hostages. Do you not realise how ridiculous that claim is?
  2. Okay, if you support the killing of 270 citizens, of anybody, I suppose I'll have to block you.
  3. So state broadcasters can't have a voice in a democratic country? That's an interesting point of view. He isn't an employee either, and they could always not renew his freelance contract. The fact that they haven't cancelled his contract indicates where their priorities really lay. To condemn him and still employ him is the height of hypocrisy.
  4. It's also quite probably true, as the 'targeted attack' managed to kill 270 more than the number rescued. Or was that made up, too?
  5. Are you SURE the bike isn't insured? He might have smelt the possibility of a scam by getting money from you AND the insurance company. A friend of mine died here and his (all Thais are poor) wife asked my friend's daughter in London to pay the bills. The daughter asked for the bills and got them translated and they were in fact receipts for bills that had been paid by his insurance. Similar thing with the bike? As has been said, a bike of that value uninsured? Come on! As for you not telling your GF to move the car herself, not refusing as you'd had a few and it was too dark for you to see properly? Risky, and you lost.
  6. I agree. Anyone who doesn't fasten their seatbelt while seated, as directed to by a sign on the back of the seat in front of them, is either an idiot or naive. The rule is there for a very good reason and should not be 'do it if you want, but we don't care if you don't and if you get injured we'll reward you with compensation'.
  7. And who made him takes the job, hmm? His choice.
  8. They've recently closed a young offenders prison near me. No idea why. Maybe they ran out of funds.
  9. There are a lot of uneducated savages in this country, tooled up and some ready to kill over nothing at all. Of course, if the police had been doing their job the pickup would not even have been on the road with no plates. But well, you know...... And a similar story on the same day in the land of smiles:
  10. Careful! I have frequently commented negatively on the standard of reporting presented to us, and was recently threatened with permanent removal as what I write might hurt the feeling of the writers. God forbid they be pulled up for their unprofessionalism. The excuse given for AN's stance is that the site is free and they can't afford anything better, so we must shut up and put up. The mod had a point.
  11. The post in question referred to species, not a country. But Israel is the worlds' only officially-sanctioned terrorist state, and the massive loss of life in Gaza, in retaliation for loss of face when Hamas made a mockery of the self-styled invincible defense force of Israel, would have been roundly condemned by every nation on Earth if it had been carried out by anyone else. Instead, 'red lines' are repeatedly re-drawn to allow Israel to kill 274 people (including three Israeli hostages which Israel forgot to mention during their pat-ourselves-on-the-head celebrations) as they rescued four hostages. As for Lineker, he should be free to give his views in the same way that anyone else is who doesn't live in a dictatorship. Who he works for has absolutely nothing to do with his views on anything or anyone.
  12. Seems reasonable, if they want to kill another.
  13. Temples in Thailand are run as a business, nothing more. And they are often inhabited by 'reforming' criminals dressed in monk robes.
  14. Can you provide any links to any articles to backup your claim, so that we know you are not talking out of your a***? Thanks.
  15. Many Thais might be surprised that the wai is not exclusively a Thai thing, but practiced in many parts of Asia.
  16. Gotcha! The road to the parking area has changed traffic direction. Interesting. I've used the IO there since not long after it opened and have always entered from the narrow end.
  17. Sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about. There is no immigration compound, nor internal (as in inside) parking. There is an outdoor parking area in front of the building where immigration is housed along with other offices, which is used by anyone who wants to pay to use it, including those visiting the nearby market, and it is not 'owned' by immigration and is not part of any 'compound'. I wonder if you are even talking about Kalasin immigration, as what you describe bears no resemblance to the place I know.
  18. This is a forum about Thailand, not the USA. And I didn't say the problem was exclusively with Thais.
  19. It had nothing to do with hush money being paid. It had everything to do with falsifying accounts to hide the fact it had been paid. He wasn't convicted of paying hush money.
  20. Or he might receive a token prison sentence for repeatedly showing contempt of court, calling the judge who will sentence him corrupt, calling the trial a witch hunt, showing no remorse or acceptance of guilt at all, and contempt for the American justice system. A week might do it, so he misses his big day. Then we can marvel at a Party who accepts someone in jail as their candidate.
  21. Indeed. But the driver acted responsibly up until the collision by having his hazard lights on, and it is surely up to the motorcyclist see the bus and its lights and avoid it.
  22. I am no longer amazed at the child-like naivety of some Thai adults. We read of similar scams over and over again. Even telling him not to go in person to the police station was a red flag in itself. And this wasn't some ignorant and uneducated farmer - he held a responsible position.
  23. I use this office and, indeed, they are very helpful. The front desk/receptionist chap particularly so. He recently phoned us on a Saturday evening to say my marriage extension was ready, and when we went there my wife asked him why he called on Saturday, and he said he often worked on Saturdays and even took work home sometimes to work on Sundays. Good man. He even smiles, and when I made my application he pointed out that the person sitting next to me was a fellow Londoner who I then got talking with. The OP is also confused by the parking arrangements. The entrance and exit are together, on each side of the hut containing the man who gives you a ticket on the way in and collects your 10 baht or so on the way out.
  24. I wrote a couple of days ago, after another child assault in that her mother hired her daughter out for sex, that it was just part of the culture, and I was questioned about that claim. Assaulting young girls happens so frequently, often at schools who then try to cover it up, does make it part of the culture in my view, Underlined by the fact that the police rarely investigate, as in this case. It's just seen as part of life in Thailand, part of the culture. Nothing to see here. Move on.
