  1. It's just a misunderstanding. They understood they could get away with it, and they couldn't.
  2. I went to the main Bangkok Bank in Silom to renew an ATM card and get one with Mastercard instead of the 'default' Union Pay. I had a new passport, and had to sign my name something like 15 times. And the assistant that served me clearly hated dealing with trouble-making foreigners like me as he dealt with all their red tape. So be prepared for pain, and take sandwiches.
  3. It's not unusual for hotels to warn of a fine, usually of around $500, if a guest has smoked in the room, to cover the cost of the extensive cleaning that is required. And they have your credit card number to charge it.
  4. It isn't fake news. There have been several cases in the news, including reports on this site, all involving Chinese. Before saying that Thailand is the source of the problem they need look at themselves.
  5. As Thailand’s tourism industry grapples with the challenges of cannabis legalisation, industry stakeholders are urging the government to establish clearer regulations Applies to just about everything the government announces, doesn't it?
  6. And a criminal background check is done at the Thai embassy in China? I don't know. Ask them, if you're interested.
  7. From the linked article: Upon arrival at the scene, the officers saw a woman standing near her unconscious husband. and When she found him and dragged him out of the restaurant, he didn’t suffer any injuries. More outstanding Thai reporting.
  8. Of course, they won't. 1 - No-one has yet been bothered to crack down on illegal burning. Finding the source of the burning means going outside the air-con office and it's hot out there. 2 - Nature doesn't give a rat's fart about artificial borders that humans put up, so the air will also arrive without a visa from other countries.
  9. Every person in a tour group now has to apply for a visa individually, rather than the previous method when the tour company applied for the entire group. That was in the news a few days ago.
  10. Thanks. So I wonder why the one Covid death a day gets the headlines. Bizarre, isn't it.
  11. What is the point of the photo published with this report?
  12. “Examination of financial routes, phone calls and other behaviour clearly show a link. Initially, as police have clear evidence, a request will be made to the court to issue an arrest warrant in a day or two,” he said. "That should be long enough for the policeman in question to make his escape," he didn't add.
  13. I visit my local village Homo Sapiens Maintenance and Repair Centre every three months to see my drug dealer who sells me a supply of pills to control blood pressure etc. I never, ever go before lunch as the Thai way is for everyone to get there at dawn and wait six or seven hours to see the doctor for five minutes. After lunch there are only a few people there. You'd think that the locals would know not to turn up en-masse as a long wait is inevitable, but......
  14. Did she also suggest that the hotels pay an attractive wage to encourage the workers to return, even though it might mean a rise in what in Thailand are low hotel rates?
  15. Just another one of the quality tourists that Thailand attracts. There'll be another similar report in a day or two.
  16. Isn't a single 1000 and a multi 1900? So no, it wouldn't. But I stand to be corrected.
  17. A fraction over one death a day. Okay. Now, how many a day died of cancer, diabetes etc etc etc.
  18. His half-Thai daughter came over from London and dealt with everything. It was she who raised the question of poisoning with the hospital, prompted by me and, as I said, it was brushed off. If the hospital said they tested and found nothing, then what? No point in hitting your head against a brick wall.
  19. You make a Thai prison sound like a place that TAT should promote for visitors to the country. They'd charge a fee of course, instead of offering free food and lodging in the sun. And I assume you'd have no problem enjoying the facilities too, as you promote its attractions.
  20. Agreed. I've several times tried the one that AN gave us and it's a very poor second to Google, But that's only as a search engine, and AI is claimed to be much, much more. Replacing humans entirely for some things. Just because we can invent something doesn't mean we have to use it though, as the AI 'godfather' has realised.
  21. Didn't the inventor of the nuclear bomb say the same thing? History repeating itself.
  22. Nice days work judges? He's obviously a lost cause and should never be released. Shouldn't the family prefer him to spend the rest of his life rotting in jail though, rather the swiftness of execution?
  23. And if there was then people would ignore what they are taught anyway, as they ignore every rule or law. It's their culture. Up to them if it kills them. They don't care, so I don't care.
  24. So it was the second accident there that night. Sums up Thai driving skills rather well. As does 'hit the tree in the middle of the road' sum up Thai reporting skills.
  25. You forgot his donation to the police Christmas Party fund.
