  1. Well, I wonder how other countries cope. I've never heard of security forces touring tourist areas demanding to see proof that they have a right to be in the country. Maybe in North Korea? I don't know. Do you?
  2. ...and ensuring that by treating guests to the country as potential criminals they never return.
  3. With air quality forecast today in Bangkok at 151 (unhealthy), not the same as any place in the world. Beijing 91 Seoul 55 Paris 33 Los Angeles 44 Well, air quality varies day by day, week by week, month by month.
  4. I stopped at tip 1. Walking is a great way to experience Bangkok, the same as it is when you're any place in the world.
  5. My mummy told me not to go with strange men, so I never got tied up and had my belongings stolen. Clever, my mummy.
  6. Nice job to have, weather forecasting. No-one really expects you to get it right, and when you get it wrong you never get fired because of it.
  7. And legal. Actually, I'm sure they know they are illegal, but of course that has no relevance in Thailand.
  8. In Spain they also have their own - short - Songkran-style festival, but they throw wine over each other instead of water as it is so cheap there. Maybe they should insist only wine is thrown in Thailand too. No-one could afford that so the problem would be solved.
  9. And that reason is so many parents in SEA see nothing wrong in selling their daughters for sex. At a different level, many of the girls in the farang night-life venues are 'strongly encouraged' to entertain and send money home. I have no idea what happens in the Thai entertainment venues, but I doubt they are all squeaky clean.
  10. I don't think these machines need monitoring on-site, same as data centres. The machines just sit there flashing lights and humming along. Then if a fault occurs someone somewhere is notified by an alarm and they come and sort it out. I stand to be corrected, though.
  11. I've measured 57 in direct sunlight. Which is what we are subject to for much of the time we go out.
  12. Yes. Absolutely no common sense allowed. Doesn't exist in Thailand.
  13. One could always check comments on Trip Advisor, of course. Which I always, always do.
  14. It lasted four minutes before, in Amerispeak, there was a "rapid unscheduled disassembly" (translation, it exploded), and it cost how much?
  15. So many buildings in Thailand have large overhangs or even no walls at all, a perfect invitation for strong winds to lift the roof off. Why don't builders know this, in a country that, every year, suffers hurricane-strength winds, even if only for a few minutes before a storm?
  16. Really? Why would anyone book a place without knowing its location?
  17. I know I had to start again, which is what I'm doing. That isn't the issue. The issue, which I posted to warn people of, is that stricter rules are in place now. As for your nonsense about I might have got divorced in the meantime, you totally ignore the fact that my wife was with me at immigration, as required, and I produced the marriage certificate, and the required Kor Ror 2 plus photos of us in and around the house, as required. Same wife, same house, same documents as before. The only thing that has changed is greater scrutiny of ALL applicants by the new boss after the old boss was arrested for corruption involving Chinese 'businessmen'. As for your second point, my last extension expired with an under consideration date for renewal expiring on 23 December, and I visited immigration beforehand and asked if that could be changed to 25 December, the date of my return. After all, the date your extension is due to be ready isn't necessarily when it actually is, which is why you need to wait for the phone call to come to their office to collect it. They said no, and told me I had to return without visa, apply for a three month O visa before my 45 days were up, and then apply for the one-year extension. I was later advised on this forum - I think by DrJack - that that was incorrect, but you can't argue with immigration and tell them they don't know their rules. That is why I did what I did, acting under their possibly incorrect instruction.
  18. Instead of writing nonsense, why not spend the time reading the link instead. You might learn something. And that also goes to the others who made inane comments about what must have been a terrifying incident. It's depressing how social media and forums such as this expose so many who actually have nothing to say except rubbish.
  19. I'm ignored. They asked her all the questions yesterday, and when they visited after the first one-year application they totally ignored me then too. I don't mind. I know. It has just never been needed before when I've made my applications. it's a new rule ordered by the new Kalasin boss. I didn't know the mayor of my town in the UK either. And I know how to behave. I was brought up properly.
  20. Strange how a report about a mentally unhinged woman becomes an attack on Stickman. Bizarre.
  21. I don't know if they still do, but it was common for people here, usually girls/women, to leave their bag on a table in a food court to 'reserve' it while they got their food. And then there were sad tales of them returning to the table and their bag and/or phone had gone. Now, if they had realised that by the time they got their food there were likely to be seats available anyway after others had finished their meal and left.....
  22. Well, when someone says that I quoted an incorrect fee, which I didn't, and when someone asks me what I expect after I wrote that I hadn't had a marriage extension for three years, which I didn't write, I think I'm justified in being defensive. Don't you? Like now. I'm defending myself against things I am said to have written and I didn't.
  23. Is is illegal if you use one to get around the financial rules. Who told you otherwise?
  24. So no NEW RULE was or has been implemented, they have accepted your application without the letter. So far, but they said they need one. They've also accepted the application subject to a house visit. My wife took a photo of a letter the wife of another applicant had, so that wording could be used for our letter. That has never been needed before to my knowledge, but now we are all being asked for it. So it IS a new rule, at least at the Kalasin office. After the visit they might 'use their discretion' and decide it is just pointless and a waste of time. We'll see.
