  1. For a repetitive offender like him certainly shouldn't be out on the street repeating the same or worse anytime soon. If you think he should I'm sure you would have a different view had he killed a loved on of yours. Some people are habitual criminals without regard for their actions. Defending him shows a good deal about character He had previously been jailed for assaults. That doesn't condemn anyone anywhere to life behind bars. Maybe you think it should, but I'd say that's a little bit harsh - and it would require hundreds of new jails to be built as it's a common occurrence. So we'll have to agree to disagree on that.
  2. This is the part you missed: Surachate also said that the boyfriend tried to have a relationship with the victim, but she declined. So, he went back to the bar girl for ideas about what to do with the Jin Can. He claimed that the Thai bar girl suggested that they kill the Chinese student. So, not much different to what Thais do if a woman refuses them. Must be an Asian thing. Certainly, losing face isn't limited to Thailand.
  3. You could be right. I'd put money on it.
  4. Err, he was jailed several times, according to the report. Do you think he should have never been let of jail because of his assaults until it was time to burn him at the temple?
  5. Your assumption, based on nothing at all other than your own imagination to fit your baseless comments upon. You fool nobody.
  6. You seem to have a problem with medical care in Thailand. As I wrote, MY EXPERIENCE is the opposite. Yet you say I'm citing anecdotal, not personal, evidence. Your comprehension skills need improving. YOU are the one making baseless assumptions, yet you accuse others of doing so. I wrote 'My own experience is that my local village government hospital cannot be faulted in any way, and costs are a fraction of what a private hospital will charge'. I also wrote 'The problem is that such standards are not universal. Yes, Thailand does have some dreadful hospitals and doesn't have the infrastructure that the First World does (often at a very high cost). But it also has some very good ones where the costs are not overwhelming'. Something else you appear to be incapable of understanding. You wrote: 'you seem to know nothing about how the Thai healthcare system works'. Well, I've been here for 26 years and myself and several members of my family have been users (victims in your view?) of the hospital and other health care services, and not one, including I, have been disappointed. If you are gong to comment on what anyone says, at least read it properly and don't pick out the bits that suit you and ignore other parts.
  7. Wouldn't that be fun when the 'a red light doesn't apply to me' mob tackle it
  8. Further to my post above about many towns and cities pedestrianising streets, I happened across this on Facebook today. Every city and many large towns in Europe are prioritising people over traffic, one of the few ways that the world is going forwards instead of backwards. Close Beach Road and make Second Road two-way.
  9. I assume you speak from personal experience, or that of others that you know, otherwise your comment has no validity. My own experience is that my local village government hospital cannot be faulted in any way, and costs are a fraction of what a private hospital will charge. I also happened to be there on one occasion when they did their annual drill of how they would handle a mass casualty situation, with 'victims' even dressed in 'bloodied' bandages. The village even has its own ambulance. If a small village can have decent treatment then I imagine a city will have even better facilities and more of them. The problem is that such standards are not universal. Yes, Thailand does have some dreadful hospitals and doesn't have the infrastructure that the First World does (often at a very high cost). But it also has some very good ones where the costs are not overwhelming.
  10. No. They need to close the road to traffic entirely, except for delivery of goods. It's ridiculous to have lanes of traffic adjacent to a beach. Look at what other countries do, offering a wide and traffic-free environment. Note to Thais: There is a world outside of Thailand where quality of life is favoured over cars. Like in just about every major town and city in Europe where roads are being pedestrianised in large numbers
  11. What this does is discourage the rich tourists that the government insists it wants to attract. 30 day entry is fine for the vast majority of tourists, probably 95%+, as most proper tourists just have 2-3 week vacation time before returning to work. Those who have more money can afford to stay longer, but the government makes it more difficult for them.
  12. We have a Watsadu not very far from us. I'll take a look there. Thanks.
  13. I'm a dinosaur and use a light switch to turn lights on and off. I had absolutely no idea you can control them with wifi.
  14. That's it. A pity I have to get from the USA but that might be the path I have to take. Or, actually, from the UK if they have them as the photo shows 120 volts.
  15. Picture???? Like this. I'm looking for blue.
  16. True, and thanks. And they're good and on sale. But they are wide ones and won't fit my new light fittings. I need what I might call spiral ones and no-one now seems to sell them.
  17. I remember a taxi driver killed an American over 100 baht with a machete he had in the taxi. As one does, if they are Thai.
  18. I suppose the Ruskies could just skirt around the edge then.
  19. That means she has to assume responsibility for his death? Like Thai say ... it was up to him.... She presumably knew he was talking to her while driving. In fact, she said so. So yes, she was partly responsible by talking to him knowing it was dangerous to do so.
  20. Thai drivers don't need alcohol to assist in accidents. They can have accidents all by themselves.
  21. Many social media commenters also noted the time of the incident, asking why the venue was not closed at 2AM, the legal closing time for nightlife venues in entertainment zones in Pattaya. Pattaya police did not immediately answer this query. They don't need to, do they. They are either corrupt, incompetent or both. And no-one at all would expect anything else.
  22. Three months, actually, with it having to remain in the bank while they take a month to decide whether you can visit your wife or not. As you well know. And, as I said, 400,000 is a lot to some, if not for others. I have no problem with it but I understand that some others might, for any number of reasons, temporary or otherwise.
