  1. First, you are correct. But the law means nothing in Thailand, as you know. Second, I assume he was going to overtake the slow-moving lorry but misjudged, probably because he was going too fast. You don't overtake in the left-hand lane when a lorry is blocking it in front. Of course, that is common here, but my money is on either failing to overtake properly or lack of attention. I vote the latter.
  2. I don't think Thais have much of an attention span. The mind wanders. These days they call it a micro-sleep.
  3. The teens alleged they intended to avenge their rival but attacked the wrong people. Oh, that's okay then. It was just a misunderstanding.
  4. I didn't read they had been smoking cannabis. What is your source, please? Or did you just make it up?
  5. Look at the photo again. The bike is in the same middle lane as the lorry. That isn't a sign of undertaking.
  6. It's a well-lit road and the lorry is quite easy to see. At least it is for anyone paying attention.
  7. Nothing wrong with the road. It's well-lit and in good repair.
  8. People who use the airport can call 1584 if see any taxi driver at the airport refusing to use a meter. Very funny. I called 1584 once and they told me to call the tourist police number. I did, and they told me to call 1584.
  9. Yes. And I assume that extortion isn't a crime that can lead to arrest in Thailand. Well, we know that don't we, because I'm told that the police are quite adept at it so it must be legal.
  10. My own personal experience convinces me that some 'doctors' in Thailand qualify by buying a white coat.
  11. My office didn't give me a choice. The simple way would be to come in on the 45 day and then apply for the one year extension. But no, I had to apply for a 60 day tourist visa before I can apply for the one year. Other offices may vary - of course. I used to think the IOs were just being difficult with the constant change of requirements, but then I saw their rule book which is the size of an old UK phone directory. There are so many rules that they probably have no idea what the correct procedure is. Do they go on a training course? If so, do they pay attention to what they are bring told? Are they tested before being let loose on the public?
  12. Why not ask your bank? They KNOW, whereas some here will say what they THINK.
  13. I do the above, but hand it all to the IO and it costs me nothing. Passport back with under consideration the very same day. Even more simples.
  14. Amazing to me that anyone, anyone at all, is allowed to have kids no matter what. You need qualifications to work in McDonalds but none to have children. Can't afford it, no problem. We can always rent them out for sex. And your second point, yes. So many don't even raise their own kids but palm them off to elderly relatives, some of whom can barely look after themselves, let along a boisterous kid. They have kids but have little or no interest in being parents.
  15. Contender... it's got the gold medal award. It was the UN, and they named Thailand. Not sure if Thailand tried to sue them for defamation
  16. And how do you 'make sure'? You know, if the agent doesn't come up with them?
  17. Do you know how many beers that is?
  18. It depends A few decades ago I worked for BT in the UK dealing with phone bills and the union called us out on strike. It was summer, we got full pay and I only had to stand outside the office on picket duty for half a day a week. Lovely. The strike lasted for much of the summer, and when we got back to work we were offered overtime with double pay at the weekend in order to catch up. Maybe the same will happen at the Passport Office.
  19. One day of inconvenience a year is worth 10,000 baht to some, while others think it's a ridiculous waste of money.
  20. In Kalasin they don't require two of anything. As usual, various offices have different requirements.
  21. I don't think much pimping goes on in Thailand. The public relation service providers do so of their own free will as it's better than working in the rice fields and gives them the cash to buy expensive phones.
  22. I believe that at one time, on a rotation basis, it headed the Human Rights Commission or whatever it's called at the UN. Funny, hmm? Tells you all you need to know about the worthiness of the UN.
  23. What a weird people the Thais are. Definitely wired different to us. 1 - why is a love triangle/infidelity a police matter? 2 - what did they think the police could do about it? 3 - why go to a body universally known throughout the country as unwilling to do anything anyway unless a price was negotiated, and who was going to pay for it?
