  1. All reports i read here were more or less positive. There were some reports of fading colors, weak rear shocks and similar things. Many people would recommend a used Phantom over the Lifan. On the other hand most Lifan owner were (more or less) happy with the bikes but complain about service quality. There are also some Keeway Cruisers with 200-250cc. If you like such small bikes there isnt much else to choose from.

I.ve had mine for over 2 yrs, tricked it out cosmetically for my tastes, and as long as I keep it out of the dealership service center, she runs just fine. After talking to Phantom owners, I just as soon not bother with that oddity. There.s a reason they discontinued those. The claim to fame that few seem to be aware of, or soon forget reading is, the V250 is an entry level motorcycle. I bought mine with 1000km on it from a friend that became too ill to ride anymore. I.ve got the deep red paint and its not faded yet, the shocks have done me well, but noteworthy I am a lean guy, once in a while, have my 90kilo wife on the back, so although hitting a few pot holes and surprise speed bumps, I cant say that Ive done more than break them in.

For service I have used Bull Motorcycle Shop which used to be down by the river, but since moving, I haven.t located their new address. I need them to do a proper clutch adjustment at both ends of the cable. Dealership couldn.t even do that right, and came away worse than before. Bottom line, for 79,000B/$2000 youre not getting hurt buying one. My train of thought was and is, if the Lifan V250 only lasts 3 or 4 yrs and dies, I can pay cash for a new one every time, and still save money with no payments and interest on one of the big brands. At entry level, it tops out at 100kph, which is fine with me. Unlike my crotch rocket friends, I like see the scenery Im passing.

An update; The wife and I found the new Bull Motorcycle shop, on Mohodol Rd. and were happy to learn they will open a larger shop on 700 yr. rd in a new complex by the end of Jan. More room for parking cars/bikes. They have since, 500b house call, come to my home to service my cruiser.I didnt feel safe to ride to them. They inspected the clutch, linkage, and cable, lubed it well, made an adjustment. I tested it around the mooban and for the first time ever, she shifted perfectly, curing the ever annoying habit of not being able to get it into neutral. Back to the house, I mentioned an long time rubbing sound. they checked into that and found the chain worn excessively. Good I regularly oiled it. It could have snapped at any time. Now the old girl waits for them to return with a new heavy duty chain with oil rings. That had to be ordered. Expensive but worth it in my opinion. I recommend this shop enthusiastically. Jan 10

2 days after writing last, the guy came by and installed a chain on my Lifan. Much heavier looking than the original. I.m now back on the road, and running very good. So nice to have a clutch that shifts properly for the first time since buying the bike. i saw their sign is up at the new building across from Honda on 700 yr. Rd. and they will be moved in by end of the month.

I know that you're an American, but you realise that 90kg = 198 pounds?

Thanks for catching that for me. I meant pounds. she is 90 pounds. My ex was over 90 kilo. harharharhar.

  3. I don't think many Thais are really familiar enough with the differences in temperament between different nationalities to rank them in this way. Farang are just farang to most.

็Bar girls are probably best at making a list like this.

my wife would disagree with that. Thai women, like any other nationality, ''grade'' foreigners on all aspects, then compare with other women to see and share what they learned. Many Thai women have told my wife, and she agreed, that German men are the most polite, Australians and Brits drink too much, and Aussies are fast to fight.

  6. So where are all the comments about this being due to the culture there or as a consequence of incompetent, lax, corrupt policing or because of official indifference?

You know we'd be wading through pages of similar comments if the report were about Thailand.

+1...I'm surprised that their aren't many pages of comments too.

Its boring compared to all the stories of pedaphilia among British politicians?

  7. Have any of you thought to test the water before the filter and then after the filter?\

Are any of the posters actually in Thailand and drinking water?

I ran an experiment a few years ago. When it was time to change filter, I did, but took the old one and set aside for a few weeks. That was to let the water drain and evaporate out. when convinced it was dry inside, I weighed it and compared that to the weight of a new one. Didn.t need a scale. Picked them up and was shocked how much heavier the used one was. There is that much inside, of minerals and contaminants. Unless the competitors have improved in the last several years, Amways filtration system was the only one on the market that removed lead, mercury and aluminum, among all the other crap thats in the water.

  8. Some guys even have the leathers and ride a Honda Click.

    True story.

    cheesy.gif

They are everywhere. We had a neighbor, 40ish, Thai, strutted around like a wild west gunslinger with his fanny pack on his side, wearing Harley patches, t shirts, and rode a Honda Dream. Pissed him off one day when, in front of the neighbors, while he was mounting his ride, I asked loud and clearly, ''WHERE YOU GOING ON YOUR HONDA DAVIDSON?''

  9. I'm 64 and I usually run about one mile every day. I also made a weight set out of cinder blocks, bamboo poles, and bricks, ropes and pulleys. I use an old bench I salvaged from the dumper for my presses and the like. I do about forty reps each on ten different lifts every day. It's primitive but it works. When we can afford it, I want to get a multi-station weight machine I have my eye on at one of the local super centers.

I bet you will be disappointed in a machine. Youre doing it right this way. Dad always said, ''K.I.S.S. principle'' and ''if aint broke, and it works, dont fix it, dont change a thing''

Free weights will always be superior to over priced machines.

  10. Ran 45 minutes / 30 minutes weights... in the aircon at the gym

9 hours a day, 7 days a week jumping to conclusions, dodging, skipping, evading Honeydo's, chasing a hyper 4 y.o. girl that thinks she.s as capable as boys and monkeys, while repeating over and over, I.m retired dammit.

  11. The talk about entrance fees is based on what?

Not sure what your question is, but farangs pay 10x what a Thai does to visit national parks, which is why I refuse to go to any. I'd be taking my boy to places like this all the time if it wasn't for such a massive difference.

Get a yellow book and pay the same as Thai's

  12. Last week they had a Stage 3 terror alert in Sydney & Brisbane, that sure seemed like a media circus to pre-empt something dodgy. This week they are sending Australian jets to bomb the manufactured terrorists 3/4 the way across the globe in Iraq, Ah there's the connection I was expecting. I don't think Aust should be riding along as side gunners with the Neo Con terror machine, it's mostly manufactured new war. Wake up Australia. Here's an overview to see everything making sense, I don't agree with all of it but it certainly provokes deeper thought & checking, worth the read World War 3

Thats a good read. Thanks for attaching it.

  13. Condi Rice would send an even more powerful message. A smart, black woman with oodles of common sense.

She's not running and she is damaged goods due to Bush.

If true, she has a lot in common with Hillary. Most voters think Barack Obama is the worst president since World War II

That is an understatement, Ulysses. Most people are waking up to the fact that B.O. is the worst president in US history.

  14. Barack Obama is not my definition of a nobody. He was already seen as a rising star with magical charisma and indeed he was. Democrats wanted to go historic and the choice was first black vs. first woman. Now it's first woman's turn. Not saying she should be picked based on gender. Of course not. But she is objectively massively qualified by experience to be president and anyone who doesn't admit that is just not being honest.

I would also say Obama was objectively NOT very qualified by experience to be president ... but clearly that doesn't always matter.

I do realize this must be upsetting to the haters of Hillary. After eight years of Obama now her. Well, again, this is happening.

Obviously you missed a piece of history. B.O. was a state senator for 2 yrs, ONLY. His only work history is as a community organizer. He was on a national scale, an unknown.

  15. Thank you all for your replies, I appreciate them.

I do appreciate that the Thai people in general are only being friendly and culturally there is less social boundaries around taking about somebody or their appearance right in front of them and I guess maybe I do just need to grow a thicker skin!

Literally just after I posted, a Thai friend told me 'I love your hairy face and arms' (cheers!!!!!) I just laughed because she like a majority of Thai women want to alter their appearance and I like this is crazy for it and I realised that it was ok because my friend had said it, but if someone at the market say had said it I would have gotten upset immediately.

Gonna have a fresh view point from here on in and not let others dictate how I feel.

    Thanks again

Thai respect higher education, and respect a woman that stands up for herself, especially if she speaks Thai. Let them know in Thai that you are educated and deserve to be treated with respect. Thai women married to farang have the same issues you expressed, because they are also stereotyped. My Thai wife has on many an instance, with little to no smile, let Thai men know that she has a higher education, is married to this farang, and will not accept their sexist comments. Every time this has happened, the guilty back down immediately, apologize profusely, often with wai. If you are polite and firm, you will get the respect you deserve. If you haven.t let them know you understand the language, then you will be treated like a temporary oddity here.

  16. Well, The people of Australia should be able to defend themselves, right? Oh yea I forgot, They took away your guns.... God Bless America and our second amendment rights!

cheesy.gifcheesy.gif stop it we don't have children slaughtered in schools on a monthly basis in the name of the 2nd amendment and the right to carry guns and kill people. when Mexicans stop sneaking into the U.S and Americans stop slaughtering kids in schools come back with an argument

Don.t have to wait for those changes to take place in order to come up with an argument for that liberal manure. No one has been slaughtered in the name of the 2nd amendment. If the govt agencies didnt suffer from the ''left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing'', most if not all of the school shooters would have been red flagged as mentally unstable and prevented from doing their acts. In almost all of those cases, some agency or another already had information indicating those shooters should have received intervention before the slaughter. What the US really suffers from is liberal mentality in the judicial system. 70% of all violent crime each year is committed by career criminals, making up 5% or less of the total population, but thanks to plea bargaining, early release, and over crowding of prisons, they are spit back out into society to continue their sociopathic acts, while we house non violent criminal offenses in greater numbers. There are hundreds of gun laws on the books, but only a fraction of them are enforced. Adding more gun laws never was, never will be the solution. Just look at Canada, England, Australia, Thailand, to name a few where guns are outlawed, or strictly controlled. You can take the guns away from the population, and all you do is change the weapon of choice. Look at the instances of Thai males that pack machetes down their pants. Up til 15 yrs ago in the States, 1 out of every 4 women knew someone personally that had been a victim of rape. Women got sick and tired of being victims and they now make up the largest growing group buying and carrying guns. Do your homework. There are 50 states, each with varying differences in gun laws, not to mention the Federal laws. In every state that allows concealed carry of guns, the violent crime rates dropped drastically, where as the the states or cities with the most strict gun regulations have the most statistics of violence, Chicago Obama's home turf, New York City, Washington DC, Los Angelas, to name but a few.

The same issue of US judicial system applies to the Mexicans invading the US. Stop being politically correct, and start full enforcement of existing laws. I could on but I dont feel like writing a book here.

With that my ex pat friend, when you come up with an original thought not fed to you by the parroting liberal lame stream media, come back with a counter argument.

  17. Don't worry, all the bike gangs have weapons. Too bad they are on the side of the Mexican Mafia.

Exactly. Worldwide this is the proof the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution is #2, following #1, Freedom of Speech, for a reason. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. 9 yrs in Thailand and the only guns I have been made aware of are the ones in the hands of police, gangs, political groups, and students. The law abiding are defenseless. As we say back home, ''God made man. Sam Colt made men equal''.
