  1. One staple comment that always makes me smile is "it's full of locals, so it must be good".

There's a well known noodle restaurant near me that does a roaring trade and even has 'VIP' customers which involve the police disrupting non-VIP's lives by blocking off a public road when they decide to dine there.

We ate there once and it was rubbish.

I agree that if you are somewhere like France or Itay where people generally have good taste and really understand good food, then yes, follow the locals, but here? Forget it.

Generally agree with that statement for restaurants in Thailand - however we have several Japanese restaurants in our area but one typically has a lot of Japanese expats eating there so I figure by their standards it's the best in our neighbourhood ;)

Looks good guys, where is it? Idiot proof directions please, and thanks..thumbsup.gif

Here's my best attempt at directions ;)

It's on the superhighway just along from Maya, next to the 7-11 that is just before the Tarin hotel - it is set back off the road so you might not immediately see it but there are lots of cars parked there in the evening as there are lots of food stalls

happened to be around the corner this evening and decided to try the place. very nice, new and clean... the best? i don't think so, but it was a nice change. the spicy chili was very good while the teriyaki was bland. the salad with miso sauce was excellent. pickled veggies also very good. priced a little high but not too bad. i would go again.

I'm happy to try somewhere new (to me) that's good - where do you recommend?

  4. Geez, it sure would be nice if some of the bitter Europeans and others could show us some decent offers on foreign credit cards...

    Unfortunately I'm a non-bitter European so I can't help you out wink.png

I've checked with all my European friends in Chiang Mai and they're all non-bitter as well, as are my antipodean and American friends - seems there is only one bitter person here wink.png

the large supply of hot dogs here must keep them happy, or is it the boxed wine?

Nah - it's being able to find a cold beer with that's 1 baht cheaper than anywhere else

  6. Finally, some good news:

"Thailand’s drought-stricken farmers got a rare bit of good news Monday, when a pair of sacred bulls predicted that the heavens would finally open during the upcoming rainy season. The bovine prophecy came during the kingdom’s much-watched annual royal ploughing ceremony, an ancient rite officially marking the start of the main rice cultivation season."

Out of interest what did they predict last year so we can check their accuracy ;)

  7. People married to Thai spouses can simply get retirement visas, you know. There's no rule that says they HAVE

    to get a marriage visa.

There are rules for applying for a retirement extension.

Have to be 50 or over and 800000 baht in a Thai bank or the equivalent pension income of 65000 baht a month or a bit of both. You will be surprise the amount of 50s and overs that don`t have the 800000 baht.

    Interesting.

Surprise us and tell us how many.

    42 ;)

  8. Power flickering in Santitham- rain, thunder and lightening - was thinking of walking to Salsa Kitchen but may give it another 1/2 hour ;)

  9. My weather app on my Macbook Pro indicates rainstorms everyday for the next week. Sadly, the online weather forecasts say no rain at all, ever.

If AppleMac comes thru with the rain I'll throw my PC/Androids in the khlong. :)

It's thundering and raining in San Patong - will you be posting pictures of your devices in the khlong? ;)

  10. Look under a rock

Last I heard from you you were posting how much you hated your time in Chiang Mai and how wonderful it was to be gone

Obviously your new life is so fulfilling that you still read and comment on a forum about a place you hate

I look forward to reaching a similar enlightened place in my life ;)
