  1. Pattaya28 ........... bizarre is the perfect choice of words.

The Sattahip Amphur Manager was the 'boss' I referred to. He's the man we met twice to check and recheck papers that would be needed and it was he who thought his last minute demand/request for another task/paperwork was going to be the cute money-spinning idea

Mr Giddyup - I am not an Aussie so all your documentation described is irrelevant to me. I have now told you several times my costs were B40 (I had previously for various reasons gathered all the papers needed myself with no incurred costs) and if your costs were as you described then so be it.

My topic is about "unofficial fees" and the planned cessation thereof as reported in the BKK Post yesterday (Thursday 28th).

Requesting a passport translation (or maybe a small donation to make that request disappear) strikes me, as Pattay28 said, bizarre!

    Next ............

  2. well our cost was B40 and took 40 minutes as I said.

BTW - what has your reply got to do with the thread topic?

So, you didn't have to go to the embassy and get your stat dec translated and approved? I did mention that

the Amphur office asked for a translation of my passport when I did my will.

No, no other papers required and Embassy affirmation etc had no input

  3. Mr Happy Grumpy (and Khun BENQ)

How do you translate a passport?

A passport is a passport. It cannot and must not be changed arbitrarily.

How do you translate (eg) Mr Happy Grumpy into Thai? Or Jonathan? or George? or Fred?

Why would you be asked to do that?

Where else in the world would you be asked to do that?

    And why?

    Unofficial fees maybe?

Open to any and all serious answers of course

  4. Here's my offering ........

Prior to marriage I went with Thai & other friends to Sattahip to check what paperwork was required. Indeed I actually went twice within one month just to be sure !

On the happy day 14 of us duly appeared, handed over all paperwork and was told " you need to get your passport translated into Thai"

    BEAT THAT !!

The boss was told in no uncertain terms where to go and we all went to North Pattaya where marriage was successfully completed within 40 minutes

  5. The husband of the owner of Bistro 89 (soi 89 almost opposite MAKRO), as was, is I believe a master baker and whose family invented the first real bakers oven in France at the turn of the century.

Bistro 89 is changing to Baguette 89 ...... opening imminently (I noted the oven is already installed) so bread and baguettes should be extra special we trust. More info as and when.

  6. took a look at the planned monstrosity called Sixth Elegant at Na Jomtien just east of Pinnacle Hotel. it was mentioned in a TV post. Now I have their bloody intrusive ad popping up on my screens everywhere and constantly.

How do I rid myself of this menace? Help will be much appreciated.

PS - DO NOT READ THEIR ADVERT or be warned !

  7. from Tai and 3rd road walk in the Bali Hai direction. go over traffic lights and about 400m or maybe more look on RIGHT for laundry on a corner (that's the clinic soi) and that is opposite a now recently demolished area which housed a garden centre, stalls etc. Clinic about 50m on the right in that small soi.

NOTE: If you went another 300m you'd either have to turn left into Thappraya or go over the flyover to the Pier area - cannot now turn right there to 2nd road.

  8. just walk in. Opens at 7.00' ish . Results normally by after 3.00pm same day if you go early but he will tell you

No food or drink after midnight of course

Ensure your bladder is not empty upon arrival and have a pee there. He will take blood and blood pressure

You will get a professional results book indicating where High (H) etc

I keep my results on excel so can see the changes over 7 years ( in my case)

  9. I have used this blood clinic for over 7 years for the majority of my blood tests and for my and my family's annual one (and still 15 tests at B500).

Several local hospitals I know also use this clinic's testing services

Recently there has been justifiable comments by TV members about the overall poor condition of the clinic and toilet.

This morning I collected our annual test results and mentioned to K. Thararin (owner and technician) these comments posted on TV

He was clearly embarrassed, grateful for the feedback, apologised and then said by way of a reason that they were relocating in 2 months to just around the corner so he had done no regular maintenance for some while.

For those interested I will try to provide the new address once I get it.

And 'no' I have no involvement in this clinic other than being a client

  10. From the BBC World Service today.

One Chinese Company sends 6,400 employees to visit Nice in southern France for 4 days. Hires 140 coaches, spending a fortune etc.

Next year maybe they could visit Thailand and Pattaya would be an option. All those hotel rooms! All that lovely revenue!

    How would Pattaya cope?

  11. Think its at the bottom of the south Atlantic

Is this about the 1982 Falklands War?

Sorry to "torpedo" what I think is supposed to be a joke, but the Argentinian cruiser (of which I believe you speak) was named "General Belgrano".

Are you confusing it with the aircraft carrier "Veinticinco de Mayo" (Twentyfifth of May), which was named after Argentinas May Revolution in 1810 and ended its life as scrap in India?

I'm pretty sure that I've seen a bar in Patts with an Argentinian flag on it, and I think they'll be celebrating on the 25th, so perhaps you could pop along on the day and join their party?

You could repeat your brilliant quip.

    They'll love it.

as this is totally off topic you should find a mod will remove it .............. as they do mine !
