Illegal Condo Rentals Spark Concerns in Thailand
pomchop replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thank airbnb who basically started the short term rental biz and has turned thousands of once tranquil condos and neighborhoods into hotels ....and does not give a crap about anything except how much $$ they make. So of course the chinese and many others think hey we can do that and don't need to give airbnb a cut...People who buy a condo where the rules clearly forbid short term rentals suddenly find they are living in a hotel with people coming and going all hours, elevators crowded with luggage, pool areas packed with too many people, etc...hotels paying license and taxes and short term rental bunch no license no taxes...hotel alliance in many cities have put lot of pressure to stop it...some places they have done it...but the authorities ultimately have to deal with it and not just say mai pen rie. Some buildings in BKK have done a decent job of putting big signs in lobby advising min stay is 30 or more days and asking owners to report any unit they suspect is in violation and then HOA actually fines them and will cut off their water and electric if they ignore the fines. That stops it in it's tracks...of course if chinese or owners are bribing the hoa to look the other way then good luck. -
the absolute king of whining like a little child is the current POTUS...that is literally what he does every single day...there are none so blind as those that refuse to open their eyes...it is all so very very unfair how the orange child is treated.

There will be more and more highrises all around Pattaya under construction. There will be a lot more Chinese living in Thailand along with Indians, Russians, and Pattaya will continue to grow. There is still a lot of undeveloped beachfront or beach near land that is still a bargain compared to most other beach front properties around the world. Jomtien high rises still have miles and miles of beach land to turn into condos and people from all over the world will be drawn to a cheaper more simple lifestyle where they can get away from all the political dramas. The bars will continue to get pushed back away from beach front inland. Poor Thais will continue to be drawn into the Pattaya area to try and make $$ from the increasing numbers of farangs with money to spend. The Thai people will still be some of the nicest people on earth that will put up with all sorts of idiots who come here and show them very little respect.

ok here is what google says...they also say that gofund me takes about 3% of donations to support go fund me..it does not seem to say that they also verify that the charges from a hospital etc are correct...anyway...at least they do apparently at least attempt to keep fraud down which seems to me could be a massive job with so many easy money scammers around.... Yes, GoFundMe does take steps to verify that fundraisers are not scams, including reviewing each campaign, checking the organizer's identity and relationship to the beneficiary, and holding funds until the recipient's information is verified; however, they do not guarantee that every fundraiser is legitimate, and encourage users to carefully review details before donating. Key points about GoFundMe verification: Trust and Safety Team: GoFundMe has a dedicated team that reviews campaigns to identify potential fraudulent activity. Verification guidelines: Fundraisers are encouraged to provide detailed information about themselves, the beneficiary, and how funds will be used. Beneficiary verification: When funds are raised for someone other than the organizer, GoFundMe verifies the recipient's identity before releasing the money. "GoFundMe Guarantee": In cases where a campaign is found to be fraudulent, GoFundMe may offer a refund to donors. -

I do not know the answer to this question....maybe someone does? Are there any checks by anyone to verify that the story is true before a go fund me thing is shown on this and other sites? For example does anyone actually verify someone is in a hospital and what the bill is and how long there etc? Sure seems to me that would be required to prevent scams/fraud etc. But if it is done who does it who pays them to do it and who do they actually verify it to? Does this and other web sites require some verification before running the story along with the go fund me link? Not accusing anyone of anything but I think everyone knows there are no shortage of scammers who can easily come up with a bunch of pics and a sob story that could look very convincing? Anyone know for sure how this is all sorted etc? -

Future Uncertain for Retiree Bank Accounts in Thailand

Whoever decides to post these stories likely knows it will get a lot of views and is more concerned with the views than whether there is anything other than speculation being posted. Maybe the next stories will be something like: "Baht bus fares proposed to go to 100 baht" or "Thai girls say they like old men with big wallets" or "Old men say Water buffaloes are wimpy sickly animals" or "No more pot on soi pot hole". If and when anything real ever happens that actually gets enforced then maybe take a look. In the meantime, Don't worry be Happy. -

The annoying Beach Rd, Soi 6 and Walking Street clips.

Two week millionaires and youtube bloggers who have been in Thailand for two weeks hoping to become millionaires. Clickbait cranks begging for likes and clicks. The wonderful new world where millions of idiots with a phone think they can be a movie star, a celebrity, and get rich quick. Newsflash. VERY VERY unlikely to happen. EVER. -
and the baht bus fare on city runs is still 10 baht a few decades later and no doubt many farangs are still whining about what a rip off it is.

i would bet that absolutely nothing of sustance will change until and unless the big bosses at the big banks say ok...and they will only say ok if it is to their benefit and bottom line to say ok. Bangkok Bank is the largest bank in Thailand by total assets. It's also a leading bank in Southeast Asia. -

"tink too mutt"..."talk too mutt" Should we put this idea on the long list of proposals that get people all stirred up and go nowhere? When and IF it is all actually put into law and when and IF such laws were ever widely enforced then I will see when and IF it will have any impact on my life AND then maybe i will worry about it.- 200 replies

Dear Buddah/Jesus/Lord of Luck: please protect me from ever sitting beside people like op on an airplane or in a bar where i have to listen to such drivel. Doubtful i guess as a truly rich person would be flying in private jets and doubtful they would be hanging out in Pattaya bars. -

vang vien river bars were notorious for all kinds of drugs to include ectasy and lots of mushrooms...pot and booze were also everywhere...as usual it was a relatively small number of people who seemed to cause the most problems.... a lot of them were young idiots who would get too high, couldn't handle it, wanted to impress others and would dive into water from trees and shaky bamboo ladders try to do flips etc and bang their heads or worse.. ..i along with many others years and years ago had a great time floating down the river stopping in the bars drinking a few beers and had/caused no problems at all...sad that it is apparently now shut down but i can sure understand why as it was getting out of control big time.. .i would like to go back one day and see what it is like as it is a beautiful scenic area...i am not sure if you can even still do the innertube float down the river or if they just closed all the bars ? i do remember the innertube was a big biz to the locals who ran it and it was run by some sort of collective...i think it was about $5 usd and that included being driven up stream a few miles along with use of the tube...it was indeed a wonderful fun trip and the river song is/was a beautiful clear mountain river/stream..only a few feet deep cold and clear. -

looks like maybe a lot of the old vang vien crowd has moved to pai....vang vien was over the top out of control few years back but apparently the laos govt put an end to most of the river song bars and float trips etc as too many overdoses and injuries and bad press etc....vang vien is a beautiful spot and probably even better now without hoards of drunk drugged up idiots roaming the area. -
Please do not put quotes on words i never said get on a plane...simply suggested you look in mirror and ask why you choose to live here...options are a good thing and sometimes some self inspection can lead us to better options....of course it helps to be a "deep thinker"....make a list of pros and cons and then think about it and make a decision.

Some people like Thailand. Some people don't. Those who live in a country they do not like generally need to take a look in the mirror and ask why?
