To my knowledge there are no or few vaccinations for common colds....but we do have some very effective vaccinations that can greatly minimize serious illness, hospitalizations and deaths from covid....if only everyone would get the shots we would have had significantly fewer disruptions to lives, economies, healthcare systems. travel. etc....but sadly many prefer to argue ad nauseum against getting the covid vax rather than take 20 mins to get the shots.

The bottom line is IF IF IF everyone had taken the vaccines when they first became available along with recommended boosters hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations would have been avoided. Hospitals would not have had to turn away other sick people because they were full of the unvaxxed. Medical staff would not be stressed to the max working double shifts. Many economies around the world would have fared much better, business owners and their workers and families would have fared much better. Instead we still have millions of unvaxxed refusing to admit the simple FACT that vaccinations do a very good job in preventing hospitalizations and deaths. They continue to argue with scientists, doctors, and other experts who have spent decades studying viruses, vaccines, and treating real patients. It is beyond time for the vaccinated majority to call these morons out who continue to allow the virus to spread and mutate, hospitals to be clogged, economies crippled, travel disrupted, all because they are too pig headed to admit they are/were wrong, that all their absurd conspiracy theories are BS, and simply get the damn shots and be part of the solution and not the problem.

It is Thais...not Thai's. Maybe we need to correct our own bad grammar/spelling and/or learn to speak fluent Thai before we go too far down the path with our Thai friends. I personally get a kick out of listening to some of the pronunciations and interpretations that Thais use.

As usual the devil is in the details; which are sparse in this announcement. If indeed a pensioner can get a 10 year visa that could positively impact a lot of average people who might be more inclined to retire or at least spend 6 or more months a year in Thailand. But what is considered an adequate pension income? In Jan 2022 the average social security in USA is $1657 a month. There are many many people who could live just fine in Thailand for that amount. Especially if they were allowed to buy into the Thai public health care system and think more with their big head than the little one.

When I lived in a rural area a car was good to have. Motorbike trips in the rain are not a lot of fun plus always felt a lot safer and more comfortable in a nice a/c car. When I lived in BKK or Pattaya I did not want or need as SkyTrain, baht buses and taxis are fine for my needs.

same thing with buddy who owned porsche...everytime he took for oil change it was always something else and cost $1000 +.....he finally got tired of it and bought a toyota which has had zero problems...

I started out trying to force myself to listen to ten minutes a day of Thai vocabulary words on an MP3 while doing daily walk...ultimately cut it to five minutes and listened to several different lessons over and over day after day, month after month...some days had to force myself to do it but small "price to pay 5 mins a day" of a 90 minute walk ...ultimately did learn to say and understand quite a few very useful words but putting them together in the proper order to make sentences took some time...but have to say that the Thais i practiced on were very helpful and even though i often had words in wrong order etc they seemed to get a laugh out of it all and it was always good fun...as for learning to read i did take a few lessons and can read words like hong nam, toilet etc...but remember even if you can read you still need to know what the word you are reading actually means...i will never ever be close to fluent in Thai but just knowing a bunch of words is not all that hard to do and if you make it fun by practicing on Thai people it can lead to some good laughs...

i lived surrounded by big rice paddies for several years...had a klong that ran along my perimeter wall. It was wonderful as beautiful fields of bright green turning to amber...got to watch the planting and harvest from my deck which was always interesting to me...the workers were mostly all women coverd head to toe who would laugh and talk sing song as they worked from 8 am til 5 pm......then came the men with big machines to haul rice off and plow the remaining stubble under..after harvest it sat idle and sun baked it hard as a rock til the rains came and then on one particular night dozens of Thais showed up as all hundreds of big frogs emerged from mud and were harvested....never had a snake inside my walls as they seemed to prefer the klong which was full of frogs small fish etc...next door was a big limestone mountain with caves full of bats who came out at night and took care of the mosquitoes....i loved it all....then one day trucks appeared and in a matter of hours/days big portions were filled with dirt and all kinds of buildings eventually went up destroying what was once a beautiful sight...i sold out and moved on as no doubt soon would follow more buildings, karaoke, etc etc...
