Why the need for comparison? I swapped a bicycle used for a 30k round trip to work, for a ute and 4 family motorcycles. Different life in Thailand. Did I enjoy life in the UK? You bet I did, considering I worked hard also. Am I enjoying life in Thailand, you bet I am, sometimes the hardest task of the day is putting my socks on!! So life continues to be enjoyable, no need for comparison, time better spent keeping it that way ????

Well I guess it depends if you are good at handling women, in this case Thai women. A skill that apparently is frequently over estimated in the self appraisal of the suitors. Wouldn't call it naive to be one of the more accomplished and confident.

I lived alone in the UK while preparing the future in Thailand. Functioned just fine, flexibility was perfect, for work, choosing if and when to meet family and friends. Never alone as per your description of there being no one there for you. Now happily with my wife and children in Thailand different for sure regarding choice and flexibility, but compensated in many other ways.

Would it not be selfish to allow an unruly child to spoil the entertainment of theatre or cinema audience rather than take the child outside?

You do know that many children enter pre school in Thailand around the age of 3 they appear to accept being controlled most of the day. I'm with Mike on this one, don't expect 100% compliance but control yes. People want children to play take them to a place with appropriate facilities.

I enjoy the tone of this post, I guess because it fits me well. Expectations have been mentioned, lowering them may well increase happiness has been suggested, I like that idea too. I feel however that consumerism coupled with expectation, and the images projected as 'success' will see many struggle to achieve 'happiness' perhaps because male or female they are chasing the wrong goal. But then the strive to achieve maybe their Idea of happiness? There is no one cap fits all, in fact 'happiness' is undoubtedly a very individual target and emotion.

I fully accept the safety of health insurance. However much of the attempts regarding associated advice are a little feeble. To have a family in Thailand is no different to any other country with regards to being taken care of as you age, in fact possibly accepted more readily. Yet we have people advocating don't get romantically involved,rent. Public hospitals serve the purpose in Thailand, yet we have "if you wish to use public hospital comments" If you require gold star treatment you will pay wherever you go. My plan is to be nothing more than an everyday person with family growing old in Thailand along with millions of others whom appear to adequately meet death when the time arrives.

The way my wife takes care of me now have no doubts about the care and attention I will receive as I age. Life is for living not fretting

I guess when one has enjoyed a varied and interesting life, having achieved the goal of living the chosen life in Thailand. The plan is surely to go with the flow and establish continuation. I am pleased I spent many hours days, weeks, partying and getting about a bit in my youth. Not planned just went with the flow. Now as I age is the time to relax, and ease off, enjoying a less demanding lifestyle. Bored ha never, goals?just to see my family are doing ok, daily achievements yep, always a little job to do around the place.
