1. There has been a regular gang operating around the intersection of Jomtien 2nd Rd. and Soi Chaiyaput for at least 8 months, probably much longer.
A Dutch friend of mine on his M/C was assaulted 6 or 8 months ago with the reo bars at night just near that intersection, when the intersection was still rough dirt and gravel, and he was EXTREMELY lucky to get out alive as these guys obviously put no value on human life.
2. Obviously the Police don't care , as many incidents including my friend's have been reported to them, and they could easily set up a regular decoy operation to trap them.
Obviously there has been no attempt to stamp out this ongoing murderously intent gang of despots.
3. I daily ride a 30,000 baht beautiful aluminium bicycle around Jomtien for an hour, with my leather lap bag slung around my handle bars, never containing less than about 10,000 baht.
I never venture away from Soi's 1 to 12 / Beach Rd. 2nd Rd. pocket , but now I can see with me riding possibly the nicest bicycle in Jomtien and a lap pouch in obvious sight, and only occasionally wearing my bike crash helmet, that I have been making a target out of myself even though I never leave heavily populated areas, so I will immediately modify my behaviour !
Thank you for the lesson.
Very clever!! Not!

THIS USED TO BE MY WORK, so...
Cloning happens everywhere in the world...lets not forget that Thailand uses old security systems on credit / debit card transactions whereas the latest cards use a technology called “cryptography” that allows the card and the terminal to communicate with each other during the transaction and carry out automatic security checks to ensure the card is valid.
The latest microchip (“cryptography”) is state-of-the-art in payment card technology and is extremely difficult to duplicate.
In fact, chips cards have significantly reduced fraud in some countries where these cards are used, but is not used in Thailand and many Asian countries yet, even though this has been available for several years now.
Actually when you use a credit card in Thailand, the ATM uses caller ID to compare the number you’re calling from with the one on the account (usually your home phone). If the phone number is a match, the verification process is streamlined. Rather than requiring the entire credit card number to be entered, the caller can usually access the account with only the last four digits.
So think about this....“The last four digits of your credit card number are out there on almost every card receipt including ATM's withdrawals,” “If you look at any sales receipt, it always has those last four digits.”
In order for someone to take advantage of this security loophole, the fraudsters trick the bank’s computer to make it appear the call is coming from your home phone. (That's why sometimes you cannot use your UK card in Thailand unless you tell them you are here)
Internet “spoofing” and cloaked web IP address sites make this incredibly easy to do. Con artists have been using this technology for years and it is how those British tabloid reporters were able to hack into so many voice-mail systems.
Thailand and many other Asian countries still do not have the latest systems.
How to resolve this Issue....use IN BRANCH ATM'S!!! They are linked on a different basis which almost prevents most card thefts.
I trust this might help people, and certainly NEVER EVER give your card to a shop or restaurant...ask them to bring the mobile billing machine to your table.
Hope this is of interest
Best

But dont forget the SIPP Trustees must have ownership of all assetts within the Scheme, so I dont think you can do it, also I am unsure if you can put a property that you may live in into a SIPP.
Better forget this route! Many, many legal issues!!
-
I think you probably cannot do this using your SIPP...unless the purchase is in name of the trustees of the SIPP scheme..been a while since I professionally advised on SIPP's.
Anyhow you realise that once you have bought that it can be very hard to sell in a reasonable time scale (Forget what Estate Agents tell you) ask around.
Better to rent for a good while and then once settled to consider buying.
PM me if you want more advice.
Best
Paul
(Of course your Wife wants you to buy!)

Well I am sorry to hear of your problems....me...well I ride a fairly expensive mountain bike every day, but lets be honest..Thais in general are definetly not interested in robbing you of your bike!!! What can they do with it? Thais dont even want to ride a bike?
As to danger...well nearly every road in Thailand has a Mom and pop shop or indeed a 7-11, surely if you felt in danger you would go into them or even a house front?
You could always wave down a bike with sidecar and they will happily take you anywhere safer if you felt in danger with your ike for 100 baht+-.
Still perhaps I have been lucky, I have never seen a Thai look at me twice on my bike.
Perhaps you are going to isolated areas too much?
Good luck!

Well I thought I would finally add my thoughts...the problem is most foreigners dont realise that Thais in particlar buy a condo and do not intend ever selling it, regardless of prices. (it is there weekend place away from Bangkok)
Then you get the foreigner who thinks he can make a killing...silly, silly...look at the prices for a 100 sqm condo 5 years ago and you will see in many areas it has gone down slightly and when it comes to selling a used condo, well why should anyone buy it, when they can a get a brand new one in a new build at the same price?
Sure if you buy with intentions of living in it for your life then no problem...but for instance try and find a foreigner who has tried to sell his used condo, how long and at what big discount??? A waste of time.
Please dont believe the Estate agent hype, look around at condos and you can see the empty ones (ie no Air cons fitted or just looking empty) ...there are thousands!
Why not just rent and invest your money in a simple set of deposit accounts and offset the interest so your condo rent appears reasonable and you stil have mobility.
BE CAREFUL!

I suggest as your family is Thai...that you go anywhere but Pattaya for treatment and save yourself a fortune!! It is well accepted that Pattaya Dentists overcharge!

I have been offered one of these from a friend in UK.
Will it work okay in Thailand and does it need unlocking etc.
Is it expensive to use in Thailand and do I need a different Sim for Thailand, I use a one to call Sim at the moment.
Sorry if these are simple questions...I am not to up to date on phones.

All because Bangko Post use pop up adverts which are not security proofed, many anti virus programmes do not utilise scanning but ESET NOD Anti Virus and BIt Defender, Panda, F Secure G Data and many others do, problem is Bangkok post poor security issues.

This can only be effected on the menu option of some TV's, turn on...."auto volume level"
Can u guys tell me how to regulate the volume on Sophon cable channels?
Every channel has a different volume and some channels have to be turned up all the way to get audible sound.
It is really really annoying.
-
Up to a year ago the ONLY place to get a REAL international license is at Licensing center in Bangkok, I expect its still the same.

All English channels Sophon here okay!
