Sorry. It's the Tha Chin river, My bad. Been a long time since I went. Its been done. Used to be sampans along the canal at Prathoo Nam a long long time ago where ladies plied their trade in the oldest profession. No roads back then when Bangkok got its moniker ' Venice of the East ' I have a Thai friend who as a child was a novice monk at Wat Po. The abbot once took them to visit a monastry at Lam Look Ka ( now on the outskirts of Bangkok. ) The journey was done only on canals and it took them all day to get there with many changes of boat. Now a one hours journey by car ( traffic notwithstanding ).

No. Not tried that one. One of my favorites is at Lam Phya off the road to Suphan Buri. It is in temple grounds on the Ping River. The highlight is buying a ticket for an old rice barge trip 1 hour up or down the river to other temple then back again. Before embarking you load up with delicious cheap food from the market, grab a few drinks then eat it at your leisure as you go along the river. Again , few foreign tourists although I have not been for 12 years so probably spoilt by now.

MIL bitten by poisonous snake twice next door to us. ( green snake with brown tail , ngoo keeo hang pow ) Two nights in hospital on both occasions with badly swollen hand and arm.

There are touristy floating markets and real ones. A real one is worth a visit but will be a long way out from Bangkok and you need your own transport unless you hire a taxi. They are almost extinct now as Thais have gotten used to shopping malls but there are a few out there.

Yes, my current ones are pretty good too. Had 5 of them visit last weekend for mothers day. Son in law , 2 daughters , his MIL and an young employee of his. 5 in all. three of them slept in the living room for two nights and left it spotless. Brought their own food and towels and we just provided futons and pillows etc. Have to say , my son in law is a really nice guy. If he were mine I would be proud of him. Takes good care of his family and regularly sends my fife a couple of thousand baht. This trip he gave wife 3000 , her sister 1000 and wifes 90 year old mum 1000. He and his wife work hard and have a house and a brand new pick up from their own sweat. Lovely family. My first wifes bunch though.....nightmare. Complete disaster, I shudder at the memories. As bad as it gets.
