  1. Why would Russians get an invite to a D Day anniversary event which they took no part in ?
  2. Free time ? What's that ? Busy every day until 6.30 pm. Then it's feet up until 10pm bedtime.
  3. Yup me too. Mum getting too old and will need me soon either way. Been here too long. Like to do a few other things if I am not too decrepit when the time comes.
  4. This issue seems to be worse in the Philippines. Don't know why . Genes ? . Buyer beware.
  5. Denim

    Painting a condo.

How many rooms and which of them do you want painted. ?
  6. A lot of things are illegal here but without much if any enforcement they are just more words on paper.
  7. Oh no. Not the mop handle . Please please not the mop handle. Especially if you are going to attach it to a drill.
  8. Last September I flew back to Thailand with EVA air in cattle class. It was truly saddening to see the caliber of my fellow countrymen heading to ' Pats ' to go on a non stop bender if their behavior en route was anything to go by. So much so that I might give up on EVA and look for another airline. Where to the high end British tourists go ? They must go somewhere ? Why do some of us go rapidly downhill on vacation ?
  9. Yup. As I write , 30% of the local Big C car park has been cordoned off to make a mini Jurasic park. Half a dozen large model dinosaurs with sound effects , a dinosaur bouncy castle and a few T shirt stands. Total flop. Ignored by one and all.
  10. Agreed. Best burgers I ever ate were at a steak house near Kasetsart university. Double the width but half the height of any of those shown above, full of relish and cheese. Large portion of fries and a massive salad all for 100 baht. Always packed out with students, 2 to 1 burger. At the height of its popularity and success the owner sold it. Within a week everything was half sized except the price. Within a month the place was usually deserted. How to wreck a business in short order.
  11. I think I could hold out against Bob or Lou , even Gamma for a while , maybe , but if Georgegeorgia entered the room I would spill the beans immediately or beg to be put out of any agony coming my way. I mean , who knows where his mop handle has been.
  12. Indeed. I stopped this year from January 1st for 35 days. It was OK but I was slightly disappointed that I did not feel hugely different. Only a marginal feeling of better health. Probably due to the fact that a lot of my ailments are down to old age ( 66 ) rather than booze. However , I did notice the extra money sloshing around in my wallet which gradually built up. In the UK for 6 weeks last year I drank very little. Just one bottle of weak beer every evening ( Manns brown or Hobgoblin Ruby ) but I was walking a minimum of 5 miles every day in the fresh air and a few times over 15. After that I really did feel healthier and my blood pressure and sciatica were much improved.
  13. Can you blame them with the state of things as they are ? Not many positives but plenty of negatives.
  14. Well done ! Can we expect a : ' Kicking the caffeine habit ' thread anytime soon ?
  15. I have never been on the receiving end of crime either here or in the UK . However , I did experience a strange event in the UK that could have proved fatal to either myself or my father when I was about 14. ( now 66 ) On that evening we were both sitting on the sofa watching ' it's a knockout ' or some such thing when suddenly the lamp standing in the window shattered. Strange ? Dad went to investigate but couldn't see what caused it. It was only about 10 minutes later when one of us went to the kitchen and noticed a splinter hole through the adjoining dining room door. Further investigation found a hole in the thick dining room curtain at the back of the house and a dent in the wall. On the floor was a spent bullet. Police were called but obviously nothing further discovered. Except that the trajectory of the bullet passed about 18 inches in front of our heads.
  16. Yea , they get it from those pesky monks. Never turn your back on one , especially when armed with an alms bowl.
  17. Actually , that comment could be construed as being somewhat racist .
  18. Go on a diet of baked beans rhubard and beer for a few days. That should fix any unwanted attention. Might get you thrown out too though......the gamble is yours.
  19. Seconded. I stayed there a while and liked it. I was young then so found it easy to hook up with the local women who showed me a great time taking me around the city. I then went on a 1 week tour of the island with a Chinese waitress visiting Taroko gorge , the East coast and the highlands which were really beautiful. Must be some great hiking there if you have the time. On the other hand , if you are a boring person who just wants to sit on a bar stool ogling women then you will get bored. None of that there. Weather is cooler and less humid too. I walked miles all over Taipei ending in the suburbs and by the time I got back exhausted to my hotel I realized I had not seen another foreigner all day. Same on the coach tour. Very few tourists back then.
  20. Car keys , car keys .Now where did I put them ? Anyway, seems unfair to arrest Eat. After all she has already been penalized once.
  21. I think Ray Velcora has a good method. To the OP. One thing you could try is to buy your daughter a spy cam to record the assaults. This would be useful evidence to present to the authorities. These come in all sorts of styles. Spy pen for example although there are many others. To back this up you can get pocket alarms that emit a really loud noise to attract attention.
  22. This will thin out the number of applicants a bit. No longer the stand out place for visa applications if you live in Bangkok or further away.
  23. The whole Boss case is completely ridiculous.. Had Boss just manned up , admitted his guilt and paid a decent lump in compensation to the victims family it would all be done and dusted. Instead we have this farce that drags on and on with the monotony of Cornation Street and smells to high heaven.
