Whatever the reason , we should all truly be thankful that America came to Europe's aid......for the second time. Their young men died helping to preserve our freedoms . I respect their sacrifice and would never belittle their decisive contribution.

Fortunately for Europe . Had it not been attacked and not come to our aid the outcome would have been bad for Europe and especially Russia.

A bit like seeing a thug grab an old ladies handbag. None of anyones business except the participants. When the shooting starts it has gone beyond a dispute. When World War 2 broke out the popular sentiment in America was to not get involved but to let Europe sort out its own land disputes. Pearl Harbour changed that mind set. One can only speculate what would have happened had America sat on its hands. The world would be a different place now.

Perhaps a better poll would be ' Who do you want to win ? Russia or Ukraine ? Win for Ukraine would be it gets back it's territory Win for Russia is it gets everything it has taken plus assurance Ukraine won't join Nato. It does seem that a lot of posters actually want Russia to win.

Name one recipe that you cook at home whilst living in Thailand.
Denim replied to ubonr1971's topic in General Topics
Chicken or pork adobo Philippines equivalent of pad grapow in as much as it is very popular and easy to make. My wife really likes it. Plenty of recipes on YouTube. One important tip. Ignore the tutorials and add the vinegar last a little at a time. Taste after each teaspoon full. Too much and the whole dish is ruined. Apart from that...very easy. Oh, and Thai vinegar is OK. Does not need to be English vinegar. Adding cubed potatoes also good. -
Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?
Denim replied to RolandRat's topic in General Topics
The ones that turn a blind eye are likely doing the same with their Thai gik. As long as you are OK with this no problem. But if not can be a big headache later when the gik has ideas about bumping you off. This has happened here. I even knew a wealthy bloke who liked to visit Pat Pong and play the field. His wife said she had to visit sick mum in Udon. Had to stay there and look after her. This bloke opted to believe her and stay in Bangkok. 4 months later he went to check up on her. She was living with her younger more handsome Thai partner. Nothing wrong with mum. For some strange reason he was miffed about this ? Go figure ? -

Russia appears to be placing military facilities near civilian areas in Crimea to deter Ukrainian strikes, experts say Thibault Spirlet Updated Mon, June 24, 2024 at 7:57 PM GMT+7·2 min read 54 Russia appears to be placing military facilities near civilian areas in Crimea to deter Ukrainian strikes, experts say Russia accused Ukraine of injuring civilians in an ATACMS attack on Crimea on Sunday. Russia is likely placing military facilities near civilians to deter Ukrainian strikes, experts say. Sevastopol's governor said four people were killed and 82 hospitalized as a result of the attack. Russia is likely placing military facilities near civilian areas in Crimea to try to deter further Ukrainian strikes, military analysts said. The influential Institute for the Study of War reached the conclusion in an assessment on Sunday, citing a reported strike against Sevastopol, where Russia has its Black Sea Fleet headquarters. On Sunday, Russia's Ministry of Defence accused Ukraine of launching five American-made MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems, also known as ATACMS, with cluster warheads on civilian infrastructure in Sevastopol. Four ATACMS were shot down, it said, but the impact from a Russian air-defense interceptor caused one to deviate from its trajectory and its warhead to explode midair over the city. Fragments of cluster munitions injured more than 20 civilians, including children, it said, adding that the US was partly to blame. In a Telegram post on Sunday, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russia-installed governor of Sevastopol, said four people were killed, 151 sought medical help, and 82 were hospitalized as of 9 p.m. local time. Russian and Ukrainian sources appeared to confirm the missile strike, with some claiming cluster munitions landed near civilians. Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne said its sources heard explosions in the city of Yevpatoria. Crimean Wind, a pro-Ukrainian group that monitors information in Crimea, posted footage that it said showed explosions in Yevpatoria and near Vytine. Meanwhile, one Russian source claimed the attack hit the village of Lyubimovka, only kilometers away from beaches popular with vacationers and locals. Placing potential military targets near civilian infrastructure is a strategy Russia has leveraged in the past, with the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and schools in occupied Ukraine used to shield Russian military equipment, the ISW reported. However, in doing so, Russia is likely breaking its own International Humanitarian Law, which says that military command must refrain from placing military targets close to or in highly populated areas. Neither the ISW nor Business Insider could independently verify if Ukrainian forces used missiles armed with cluster munitions. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Earlier this month, the ISW said that Ukraine's sustained attacks against Russian air defenses in Crimea could make the peninsula untenable as a military staging ground. https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-puts-military-near-civilians-crimea-deter-ukraine-strikes-isw-2024-6 -

Invading neighboring countries and targeting civilian infrastructure. Yea , we know. -
I am willing to offer my services as a teaching assistant if you proceed. RE your previous comment about highly qualified people often making bad teachers . Totally agree. At the school I worked at donkeys years ago the best teachers were often those who had been in Thailand a long time , spoke Thai well and knew the Thai mindset and how to deal with it. Back in the UK my brother in law with a degree in computer something or other and a lot of first hand experience setting up computers for different corperate companies took a stop gap job and a local college to teach computer studies. He was enthusiastic about it. I bet him a tenner he would hate it and not last long. He was sacked after one term , breathed a sigh of relief and gave me my tenner.

It often turns out that less is more . You will probably enjoy something more if it is not habitual and taken for granted.

Seriously , there are better places along the East Coast unless you really like crowds.

As far as I know this checkpoint is still closed. It closed just after the Covid outbreak and has yet to re open. Given the current situation in Burma traveling to Dawai is probably only doable via a flight into Rangoon. If this is currently possible you will need a visa. Might be best to try and contact the Burmese embassy and get the latest information from them.

Thaksin Plans Electoral Changes to Counter Move Forward's Rise

No amount of gerrymandering or goalpost moving will stop a MF landslide. So, they will use the tried and tested methods of disbanding on a trumped up charge or that good old method....another coup to save the institution. -
Do you have to wear a towel during a massage?
Denim replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
There is never a towel in any traditional massage. Instead you are given very lightweight fisherman's long pants. The OP has not stated his real desires. If he wants a glorified German tank with maybe some breach loading then he should go to an ' ahb op nooat ' If on the other hand he wants a traditional massage to address some physical problem or pain then he needs a ' nooat pain bornan ' where you get the fisherman's pants and no spermoflage. -
Oh. I see where you are coming from. Basically , you are saying that since this kind of thing has many historical precedents it is perfectly normal and acceptable in these modern times. It's OK when this sort of thing happens right now because hey , America was founded like this so why shouldn't China also do it. Cool. The CCP must be such great guys to follow such a noble aspect of human behavior.

How many days for a Thailand trip?
Denim replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
30 days visa exempt. For a beach try somewhere around Rayong. Plenty to choose from. Quiet peaceful town Kampeng Phet. Lots of historical ruins and walks.
