Tax reductions of 80% on electric vehicles to reduce pollution
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The article says "eighty percent of the rate prescribed under (11) of the annual tax rate annexed to the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 as amended by the Motor Vehicle Act (No. 14) 2007 for a period of one year from the date of registration of the vehicle." So it is not three years and it is not on the government tax when buying a car. -
British man sentenced for rape in UK flees to Thailand
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Are you telling me that the UK has a SOP for people charged with a serious offence like rape are allowed to evade justice by leaving the country before their trial? If so sounds like the UK needs to do some serious navel gazing. The fact he was convicted in absentia is of little consequence. -
British man sentenced for rape in UK flees to Thailand
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How can a man charged with rape not have his Passport taken off him and not placed on a no fly list? This is a almighty screw up by the UK justice system.- 169 replies

Private Sector: Extending Foreign Leasehold Ownership A Better Option
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I wonder if there is another reason Thai's are so worried about foreigners owning land here. You only have to look at the MM2H scheme in Malaysia. In the Forest City development (by Chinese developers) in Johor state the number of Chinese purchasers are the vast majority of buyers so much so the Malaysians were worried about it becoming another Chinese enclave. The Malaysians promptly changed the rules governing the MM2H scheme to discourage the Chinese from buying. Especially the withdrawal of an instant visa when buying in Forrest City. Since the rule change Forest City has become a ghost town. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/02723638.2017.1405691?journalCode=rurb20 -
Government Confirms Attendance of All 21 APEC Member Economies
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Russia is a member of APEC. Will Putin turn up or will send a representative? If Putin turns up it would be too good an opportunity to miss. My guess is he won't be game to leave his bunker in the Kremlin. -
That is about the best use for sand. I doubt they are going to miss a few (hundred?) bags. I would not be surprised if you asked the people who removed them they would gladly deliver a truckload to you for free.

There must hundreds of thousands sandbags to dispose of. Where do they go? Some landfill I guess. The old lady over the road kept the sand bags from 2011 up till she sadly died a couple of months ago. Her family did a clean out putting the sand (the bags had rotted away). Our back door which was ruined in 2011 she took and is still there. I have no idea what she intended to do with it. Then again a lot of Thai's are hoarders, my woman included. When she is not here I throw useless things into the garbage. She has never noticed.

Thais already did eight years ago. I can't think why it didn't take off and there was no Nobel prize issued. Upnotover posted a response to this topic back in September (IIRC). Those of us who have been here a long time would have recollections of this posted nonsense by Siriraj researchers. Overall Siriraj is an excellent hospital. It's is just some Thai's need their 15 seconds of fame. https://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-thai-researchers-devise-cure-for-ebola-48933.php

I knew a guy in Singapore who put ‘skirts’ all around his souped up Nissan. He couldn’t even drive out of the workshop the car was so low. Had to remove the kit. He then blew up the Cosworth motor. After ‘investing’ over 100k he sold it for pennies on the dollar. I am a great believer that car engineers and manufacturers know more than me so I never alter a new car.

DPM Supattanapong defends government’s foreign land-ownership policy
lujanit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I wish my country would revoke the privilege of owning a house and land, actually any land to Thais. There would be an almighty outcry of racism and xenophobia and rightly so. Maybe Thais would see what it is like to be treated like foreigners in Thailand. -
It’ s common ten year old Mazda 3, much more clearance than a Ferrari. If I could afford a Ferrari I wouldn’t be living here.

A good trend, let’s hope it continues. I also hope it will be another eleven years before this natural calamity happens again. I probably won’t be around then to witness another flood. What with BKK sinking it might be worse than 2011. I see BKK sinking here at home, the garden has sunk 5 cm over the last seven to eight years. The concrete surrounds have all cracked and it is almost impossible to drive the car out of the garage without scraping the bottom.

Operators Promises Safe Halloween Festival on Khao San Road
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
What is the world’s fascination for American tradition? Halloween, Valentine’s day, Thanksgiving? Money I guess. Thais are different to all other cultures. Money rules. -
Well I am eating humble pie. I was convinced the village was going to flood like 2011. The village committee learnt a few things since then and we were saved from being inundated. Well done to the village committee. They are still pumping water out although I’m not so sure it helps with the klong level so high. The water just comes back up the storm water drains. Who am I to judge? Anyway thanks for saving us from a repeat of 2011.
