The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide an update from Surat Thani province regarding its measures to combat the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

another branch of government wanting to be heard, this really has nothing to do with TAT unless they have been absorbed into the Health Ministry

TAT - not much going on is there as far as tourism is concerned

Yes, I understand as I've done a lot of translation work.

But in this case how can a translator confuse "despicable" with "resentful"?

you're asking the wrong person lol

Is there a direct thai translation of those two words - I somehow doubt it - so the translator is likely attempting to find something that is close but maybe not perfect

I don't get the clue, but never mind.

Fact is that there is STILL no official announcement after weeks of proclaiming that it has been approved and 'only' needs an official stamp...

In a country that is generally focused on take take take x10 and then some

Giving back (sensible or not) is a very hard pill to swallow - it goes against everything they believe in

Hmmmm ... I detect some discrepancy between the message you posted praising Immigration for how they handle the present situation and the motto under all your posted messages reading

    > My tolerance for idiots is extremely low

think what you like - here's a clue

    Now missing health minister

now run along and catch up with the program

Wait a minute -  there is some wrong translation here.

I've just read the original article and it doesn't say "despicable foreigners" ANYWHERE.

    The headline says "resentful foreigners".

Could it be foreigners that are actually trying to stir things up here to encourage Thai bashing?

ha ha - I often laugh at the interpretation of Thai to English - there is actually no direct translation - you need further interpretation to get some sort of meaning out of Thai to English - I have a friend who speaks and reads Thai fluently and he often translates with - well the general meaning is this - so he is only able to summarise the meaning using key words

Hotels currently occupied, which are to be closed immediately after the last guests have checked out, must report the details of all guests to the local authorities. Any guest deemed at risk will be isolated and transferred to a designated hospital for quarantine or treatment.

rather vague, people aren't going to be checking out since they have nowhere to go

also what does at risk mean - foreigners ?

Let us put this into perspective, Local markets are open, zero rules being followed by the local population, but also ZERO enforcement. Thais breaking curfew for no reasons, near me Thais roaring around on motorcycles until the wee small hours, BUT NO CONDEMNATION IN THE PRESS.. AS soon as a Foreigners does something wrong, heavy Thai criticism . Well now with the TOURIST dollars down, bars and clubs shut, income lessening. Thais still carry on as normal blaming anyone but themselves for the problems. Maybe they will learn, but doubtful .

because the rules only apply to foreigners at least that's what the Mayor indicated - Thai don't spread CV-19  only farangs - aren't you getting it yet
