  1. Got stopped today. On the way back from your house, beardog!!!! Right at the Ambassador. I saw a scooter cop on the side of the road just past the 7/11 there. He was scanning traffic closely. I was on the inside lane (I normally try not to do this). The cop down the road waved me over as my tax sticker was expired. And it was! He had been alerted from the other guy. We've been gone for 6 weeks and the new sticker got here a few weeks ago, so I hadn't put it on yet.

He was a bit upset, but said "no problem, just fix.". Which I just did. And moved on. Whew.

I'm a bit surprised that you purposely stay out of the inside lane. I can't remember how many times I've been pulled over for driving in the outside lane. Have to admit that it hasn't happened to me on that stretch in my pickup, but in general I'm not quite sure how many cars you are allowed to pass on a highway before you're supposed to get back to the inside lane. I've quarrel quite a few times with the cops about this and lost a battle or two. Guess driving a sedan compared to a pickup in these cases can and will make a difference.

However I've been pulled over there before on an mc, with the cop stating that bikes are not allowed in the "fast" lane.

  2. Don't understand where all the winers or maybe I should say besserwissers come from, it's been a while since we've seen a boarder run report, this could very well be useful for some readers on the forum. Additionally if you're looking to strap yourself in, take a look at Five Star Visa Runs or 1st Class Visa Runs, they both run six seater vans equipped with seatbelts.

  3. maybe I did not ask my question clearly.

What I want to know is: my friend has no tourist visa, only a stamp on her passport when she entered Thailand. In this case, is she qualified to do the application for motorbike license? Or she had to get a tourist visa first before she applies for license?

For the rest of the procedure, I already know because I got my motorbike license early this year. Of course, I have a long term visa ....

    Thanks !

Yes she is qualified. The quirk is to get the residence certificate, but immigration are know to hand these out to visa waver tourists as well. Note though in the other tread, that the immigration officer actually called up to see if his son was living at the reported address, so you need to have that covered.

  4. Ok I got it done today, both car and motosai 1 year licences renewed into 5 years.

    Photocopy of passport, visa

1 medical cert and 1 copy

1 residency cert and 1 copy

I just had to do the eye, color, reflex tests, pay money (960 baht) and I was done in less than 1 hour.

You need any type of non-imm visa or you will only get a 1 year temp

I did renew before expiry but the new 5 years run until my birthday so I actually got 5 years and 7 months smile.png

Update : I have just come from Jomtien Immigration after receiving my residency cert, when I told the guy there I was applying for both Car and Motorbike licenses he insisted I would need two residency certs, I tried to explain that Yoslim said that one plus a copy would be ok but he wouldn't have any of it, so I had to go outside and get another passport photo, (you need 3 photos for 2 certs) plus 500 bhat and a 20 min wait and I was sorted.

Immigration has always wanted to make the extra Baht by selling you multiple certificates. It was even like that back when they resided on soi 8 in patts. If you want to save some money, just tell them you are applying/extending a single license, motorbike or car.

  5. I had a keyboard socked removed from one motherboard and replaced onto another one that was busted, at a small shop at Tukcom. I can't remember exactly what floor, but think it's the one above the computer parts sales floor. The shop I used was the one just before the NW corner shop, it's a singe unit shop. If you scout the floors your bound to find it, as it's a typical repair shop. Price was very reasonable, less than I expected, 100 or so if memory serves.

  6. Exactly where is this new hospital?

    Map

Am I reading this wrong? The Map says it's on Naklua 10, not Soi Bukhao.

Yes, you're reading it wrong. The soi on the map labeled Na Kluea 10, is probably better knows as soi Lengkee, the extension of soi Diana Inn going from soi Buakhow towards 3rd Road.

  7. So this story is not true? Why cant you just give us the name of the bar , want to see the old man swollen eye , if it exists.

    http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2013/09/24/bar-owner-punched-by-a-british-tourist/

PATTAYA- September 23, 2013 [PDN]; at about 3 AM police received reports of a tourist who denied paying the drink bill and punched the owner of the bar leaving him with a swollen eye and bruises around his body. The incident occurred at Big Easy bar located in Soi Bua Khao behind the Kasikorn bank.

I'd say Pattaya One News is probably more accurate about the name of the bar "Speak Easy", than Pattayadailynews naming it "Big Easy".

  8. You can take the mini van on South Pattaya Road, opposite the Bamboo bar, (map to where you book your seat), one way is about 105 Baht.

The van stops next to the Ratchathewi BTS station, which is about a 10 min walk to Pantip Plaza.

It should fit the bill, except that they do make one quick stop both ways, not to far from the Regents on road 36 for about 10 minutes.

This is interesting. Very close to my place and nice drop off point. I might try next time, thanks!

Looks like I was a bit off... After Jiu-Jitsu posted the Pattaya Van link I can see that this is the service I utilized. They stop at the Victory Monument BTS station not Ratchathewi, so a little bit further from Pantip then I remembered, and a few baht cheaper...

  9. Bumping this thread as it's the closest that has come to answering the 'office chair repair' question. I have a couple of gas cylinders need replacing.

tropo had no luck there but Michaelaway has had repeat success... are we talking about the same shop?

I am assuming the location is at the Pattaya Tai end of Sai Sahm? Not knowing either Rong Bar or Moroccan restaurants (on opposite sides of the street?), maybe a east-side or west-side for the furniture shop will help me locate it.

    Thanks,

    NL

I assume this is the shop Michael is talking about, Google Maps Link, it's the only one in the area I know of that fits the description.

  10. Once again, if you have never had any need for storage OF ANY SIZE AND DESCRIPTION, why ask questions here?

Regarding tropo's quite relevant question about street renaming, based on precedent, I reckon Soi Diana will be good for another 10 years or so. I mean only a few really old guys will know where Soi Yodsak is. Same goes for Soi Paisannee.

Think that has a 'r' sound in it. Soi Praisani or similar.

    Correct.... but where is it?

I'll play along, Soi Praisani is the soi just south of Soi Yamato

  11. Not exactly your area, but if you have transport I would recommend Siam Country Pet Hospital on SSCC. Been taking my dog there for the last 5 years. If you want something closer, I've seen some recommendations for Muang Ake on Sukhumvit just south of Lotus, never been there myself though.

Can you give me an idea where on SSCC this vet is located? My wife is new to the area and says one of our dogs has an eye problem.

    Thanks,

    NL

Sure thing, here is a Google maps link.
  12. I have had good luck with the Najomtien Animal Hospital on Sukumvit near Lotus. 083-615-8881.

Took my dog there for about a year, when she was a pup. Good care, however I was put off on their pricing.

There's a very good veterinary clinic on Sukhumvit, heading towards Bangkok- just before Tesco Lotus (which is just before Theprasit Rd., Jomtien). I believe there's a vet on duty 24 hrs. there, too. Sorry, forgot the name.

That's Muang Ake, looks like we have another recommendation for this place.
Unfortunately muang ake is far more expensive than the na jomtien animal hospital:(

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Well I guess my initial recommendation of Siam Country Pet Hospital stands then.

  14. Regarding Mitsubishi A/C units, it's important to note if it was a "Mr. Slim" model or a "Heavy Duty" model. I have found the latter to be of lesser quality than the former. I would highly recommend a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim in the 18,000 BTU size. I have a unit just like that in my bedroom and it has performed great. It's very efficient and very quiet. I also had a Mitsubishi Heavy Duty model and would never buy another one. It didn't last very long and I did perform proper maintenance every six months.

Sorry to hear that you had a problem with your Mitsu. I have a completely different opinion about the Mitsubishi "Heavy Duty" models. I have one of those in my bedroom, 13k BTU for a room size of about 24 sqm, (~60m3). Bought it in March of 2007, haven't had a single problem with it, just regular cleaning. Runs great, efficient and very quiet.
