I think these things mostly happen in tourist area's, i live outside of those and so far i have never had to pay the police. I have been on my motorcycle and stopped and waved through.
I have even been in an accident where i was partly in the wrong but the police did not stick it on me and was helpful. After that accident where there were 2 cars a truck and my motorcycle i have changed my view of the police. There are a lot of good ones out there mostly outside of the tourist area's. I agree that there are also bad police officers and that extortion does happen.
Only the weak(mice) can be extorted, they never bother me.

A long way out in traffic from Sukhumvit. In and out in 1.5 hours(with re-entry) better than the old place. One problem said the bank letter from the day before needs to be updated for the day.Ran downstairs, updated for that day.Another ex-pat told them his bank isn't downstairs, they told him to forget about it.

Birthday for a 7 yr old,he wants Play Station 2 need a quality one at a good price. MBK 5100 baht not sure it isn't a copy.
They don't have fake PS2s. It's the games (dvds) that are copies. That's a normal price for a PS2. Actually it's kinda expensive, more than you would pay in the USA, they sell for $99 now which is a bit over 3000 baht.
And yeah PS2 is still for sale, if my 5 year old PS2 from mbk broke I'd go buy a new one immediately.
Thanks,off to MBK.

Just renewed my retirement extention with no problems whatsoever. Never have had to prove my address. What annoys me is this - British Consulate in Jomtien charge for proof of finance letter is ONE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY BAHT.. Cost of letter from Bank is only 100 Bt. How can the Consulate justify such an exorbitant amount, considering they use a template?
A monopoly is known for that,US does the same.
-
Is PS2 still for sale ?
Or are you guys talking about PS3 ?
ps2 he wants a PS 2 I guess that is what his friends have.

Tesco has the real one, dont recall the price. MBK is good for copy and real also. Have not checked prices in a long time. But i bought mine at MBK about 5 yrs ago. It is a real one with the chip to play copies. I got the PS2 with 5 games, two controlles for 8000 baht, but again that was 5yrs ago i would expect 1/2 of this now. I do suggest you get the chip so you can get games cheap.
Hope this helps you.
8000 IN tESCO,LOOKED LAST WEEK.

Visited Phuket immigration yesterday to get the stamp transferred.
At first the officer was not sure what to do, he went away and asked someone else and came back saying that they only transfer 1 year pemission to stay stamps, no problem just show both passports at airport when you leave.
Ok by me, just hope they know what they are doing when I want to leave.
At worse they will do the transfer at the airport. Don't worry.
I am getting a new passport and then extending my retirement visa. Can I just go in with the old and new passport without transfering first?

There is a provision by immigration department to consider humanitarian grounds on a case to case basis, especially if he is married to a Thai. I am sure the department would act compassionately.
Nobody will check his papers could slide for years.

This is not a criticism on your point, but in the interest of full disclosure, I hit the gym for two reasons. The first one is for myself. I want a healthier, fitter life. But the other reason is for how I am perceived by women. I am 51, and in no way a Brad Pitt or whomever. I don't want women to be with me and think, "well, he is a nice guy, so I guess I can put up with his appearances." I would rather have my looks not be an issue at all. And since I can't do much about my face, receding hairline, skin getting older, and the like, I focus on what I can do, mainly being fit and living a healthy lifestyle, and treating women with respect and consideration.
I pretty much agree with everything you've said, bonobo... even though I'm almost 20 years older than you. I'm reasonably fit for my age and don't have trouble with any of the physical interests I enjoy: fishing, hiking, biking, hunting, skiing, diving etc. I just can't keep up with the long distance runners and serious fanatics. I've had many young ladies who don't believe I'm as old as I am. That's because most of their 30 to 50 year old "clents" don't have any muscle tone and are not as fit as me. I don't stay fit because of the ladies. I do so to enjoy my other interests. But, there IS the side benefit of more interest from the ladies. That does a lot for my self esteem and gives me more confidence. Most women are more attracted to confident men than they are to the meek and mild guys. It is self perpetuating.
I've known meek guys from Canada and the USA who could never get a date back home. But, after a month in Pattaya they went home with a whole new outlook on life and confidence in themselves. After that they had no trouble with women anywhere.
I see a lot of skinny Farang men walking around with fat Farang women.I ask myself "why don't they dump the fatties".

To all the restaurateurs in the Forum...
1) Do cops generally eat "for free" at restaurants here, especially if in uniform?
2) Do they "throw their weight around" or "hint" that they eat free if they enter restaurants? (whether big or small restaurants, farang or thai owned/runned).
3) Generally, even if they don't "throw weight around" nor "hint", is it customary for restaurant owners to "mai pen rai" the bill?
4) Does your Thai staff hesitate to give the cops the 'chekbin', especially if they're in a big group and/or high ranking (many stars on the shoulder, etc.)
What's it like in your experience?
In the high crime areas in the states owners ask the police to come in and eat for free. The customers like it.

Some heavyweights are super nice guys. They are easy to please, rarely get upset and are not demanding when it comes to sex. And being fat doesn't always have to be a permanent thing. Of course you could say the same thing about some thin men.
Personally, I think some people have extra pounds/kilograms because they are so easy going that few things stress them. In turn, with this attitude toward life they burn fewer calories than someone who is always stressed out. Just my opinion.
Big belly means big money, got it?

Motorists scramble for Bt1,000 notes on Pathum Thani road
PATHUM THANI: -- Traffic snarled briefly hit a road here Monday morning when motorists parked their vehicles and rushed out to grab flying Bt1,000 bank notes.
But the traffic on the highway No 345 returned to normal soon because the motorists quickly disappeared with the notes.
Pol Lt Col Waroom Thairatthewin said the bank notes were spotted flying around the road at 9:30 am but they were quickly grabbed by motorists.
Waroom said it remain mysterious as to where the money came from. He urged the motorists to hand over the cash to police in case the owner later filed complaint with police.
He said the cash could be tens of thousands of baht.

Hello,
I would like to send a few things back to the UK but cannot find anywhere selling large jiffy type bags or heavy wrapping paper.
I've not found a post office yet either so perhaps they sell them there?
Have looked around the malls and Tops etc but not had any joy.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Passes for foreign spouses
Ruling allows aliens married to local women to stay longer
By Alina Simon [email protected]
PETALING JAYA, Wed. — From next month, foreign men married to
Malaysian women can stay longer in this country under the new
immigration rulings.
At the same time, foreign wives who are either estranged or divorced
from Malaysian men will also be given the same privilege.
Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Aseh Che Mat today said that a
year's visit pass, which can be renewed annually, would be issued to
these men and women.
Aseh said the foreign spouses could apply for a permanent residence
(PR) status after staying in Malaysia for over five years.
He said the move would encourage foreign men especially those with
high qualifications or skills to follow their wives back to Malaysia
instead of the other way around.
He said it was also in line with the recent government decision to
amend Article 8 (2) of the Federal Constitution to do away with gender
biased regulations.
Previously, Malaysian men and women married to foreigners were subject
to different immigration rules in certain matters.
Malaysian men with foreign wives could bring in their spouses into the
country on a one-year visit pass and were eligible to be considered
for PR status after five years, but women with foreign husbands did
not enjoy the same privilege.
Foreign husbands were given the normal social visit pass which must be
renewed bi-annually and this hampered their chances of finding jobs
here.
Aseh said the Government was concerned over losing a number of
qualified women professionals who were forced to migrate in order to
be with their husbands.
"If the foreign husbands are already working and if they can find jobs
here, they can apply for the professional or expatriate pass. But if
they had just graduated or are unemployed, we can give them the
one-year visit pass so they can come here with their wives and look
for jobs," he said.
He said the Government was also sympathetic over the plight of foreign
wives who faced deportation upon the breakdown of their marriage.
"The present policy requires the husband to sponsor their wives' stay
but it has been abused resulting in the women being deported when the
man refused to sponsor her stay.
"Now the wives can stay in this country upon separation or a divorce
and apply for a PR after that." However, he said, the new ruling would
not cover the 800,000 foreign labourers already here on a temporary
working permit as they were forbidden to marry while working here.
"The question of local women being coerced into a marriage of
convenience by the many foreign workers will not arise.
"This is because these men are not allowed to marry while they are
here on a temporary work permit.
"If they do, we can revoke the pass. If they want to marry, the men
will have to leave the country and apply for the one-year visit pass."
However, he said, there was no policy made on foreign husbands in the
event of a marital breakdown.
On the issuance of PR status, Aseh said it was not automatically given
but at the discretion of the ministry.
Meanwhile, Aseh said the Immigration Department would consider waiving
the RM100 fee on the special visit pass for abused foreign maids
currently seeking shelter at the Women's Aid Organisation (WAO).
He said the waiver would be given considering that the women were
staying here while waiting for their cases to be heard in court and
advised the WAO to provide the list of names to Immigration
directorgeneral Datuk Mohd Jamal Kamdi.
In Kangar, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said
implementation of the proposed regulation to give permanent resident
status to foreigners who married local women should be postponed.
He said Perlis Barisan Nasional Assemblymen who met today agreed to
call for its postponement, concered that it would result in women
being exploited.

I'm staying in Thailand and have one question and hope that somebody can give me an answer. My wife's daughter from her first marriage, is married to a Malay citizen and staying in Malaysia. They are married for more than 5 years and have 4 children. Now we were told that the visa expired and to renew the visa it will cost 1000 M-Ringgit. This seems to me a little bit too expensive, because we were asked to send the money. Does anybody have some information regarding this matter ?
Thanks and best regards
Erich
Why would anybody want to get married????
