For those of you who have lived here for years?
Mason45 replied to Hummin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I've lived in Thailand for 22 years, I married my Thai wife 20 years ago. Firstly I made it a rule to only learn words in Thai that would be useful for me in the future. Most of the common words plus any number given to me, even the high numbers I know them fluently. My biggest gripe is that Pattaya especially has changed dramatically over the past decade. Maybe it's when Thaksin was disposed of being the PM. I'm not into Thai politics so don't say I'm sticking up for an alleged crook. I do know one thing the conversion rate for the Thai baht was 30% higher on all overseas currencies than what it is now. So the better the exchange rate the more tourist come. The more tourist equates to much higher earnings for the local traders. -

How Do I Get A Mirrored Image From Laptop To Smart TV.
Mason45 replied to Mason45's topic in IT and Computers
How do I cast from the browser? Thanks. -
The other day I worked out how to to get a mirrored image from my laptop to my smart TV. I enjoy using it as I can watch the football, horse racing and greyhounds from overseas when I have a bet, using a VPN. My problem is I never opened my smart TV for a few days and now I can't open the mirrored image on my smart TV. When I open my laptop and I go to settings > blue tooth etc It shows my laptop in devices but it won't open. May I add I tried this on another laptop and it worked. I closed that laptop and when I logged on again the same thing happened to that laptop too. Anyone got any ideas?

Talk about ventilation, I got on a baht bus the other day. I had the pleasure of taking in the aroma of 2 big ass Russian sows who reeked of body odor. Maybe roll has never been introduced in Russia.

I very nearly bought a house in Kao Talo 20 years ago. In those days Kao Talo was a very pleasant place and the housing estates were in the development stage. My wife has her own small restaurant there now so I get to see the current state of the area. I'm more than grateful that the sale fell through as the current Kao Talo is a sewer. It has now been taken over by the dregs of Isarn, hence the high crime rate.

Finance Ministry Pushes 99-Year Leases for Foreigners
Mason45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The simple solution is cut out the Thai/Foreigner ownership rule. Any foreigner should be allowed to own a property in their name. Maybe they could place a ceiling on the cost and/or land size as in houses. Maybe a one property per farang limit. Take my instance, I've been married for 22 years and I can't even be a joint property owner with my wife.- 49 replies

When is a foreigner considered a local in Thailand?
Mason45 replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I agree with you Ralf I moved here in 2000 and as my wife has 7 in her family plus she has 2 daughters in their mid 40's they treat me very well.. Even the people I've got to know in my estate treat me the same. When farangs live in non tourist areas Thais couldn't care less. Many wouldn't even know what a tourist was. Tell me a country where people are readily accepted when they choose to live in another country. If I wasn't married I would've left Thailand several years ago.Thailand as it was 20 years ago was fun and friendly those days are well gone. Us residents pay the price for the rip off farangs attitude now in Pattaya. -
PM Srettha to meet Malaysian PM for peace talks
Mason45 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The British caused this many years away as they gave parts of southern Malaya to Thailand which wasn't there's to give away. May I add Gottfrid tell me a country where Muslim migrate to and conform with the laws of that country. -
The area would be a very expensive investment to say the least if was only purchased for bars, clubs and restaurants. I even heard a rumour that Lek Villa just of Naklua Road has been penciled in for demolition

I walk past that construction site next to Cape Dara on my early early morning daily walk. When it's completed it's going to be huge. Let's hope they don't use the same architects as Cape Dara as it's plain ugly.

Former red-shirt leader plans protest against new govt initiatives
Mason45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Legally you are correct, who pays has nothing to do with it. Thankfully I've been happily married for 22 years. In saying that I know guys who got out of their marriage with nothing only the clothes they were wearing at the time. -

I think I'm a better judge than most on this issue. Firstly I own 2 properties in my wifes name off course. We own a nice house in a large estate 38 kms from the centre off Bangkok city. We also own a condo in Pattaya, I'm a total nobody in Pattaya which is fine but my Bangkok house area is much different. On my 90 minute daily walks many people say good morning or sawadee krub. I'm sure if we spoke a common language I would make personal friends there. Thais are the Worlds greatest talkers amongst themselves and they soon get feed back from your neighbors what sort of person you really are. I even get called by my first name. As I've been married for 22 years pussy bars and getting on the piss all day don't interest me. I prefer living in my Bangkok property rather than Pattaya which is nothing like it was 25 years ago when it was a fun place instead of a rip off place like it is now. -

This 75% Thai ownership has nothing to do with the majority of Thai people where at least 70% of the population live below poverty line. This is all about the hiso's protecting their interests. Take me for example, I own a house in my wifes name, I also own a condo again in my wifes name. My house is on 220 sq meters and my condo is a studio type for our holiday house. I paid cash for both and I've been married for 22 years and I'm not even entitled be a joint owner is case one of use dies before the other. -
Naklua Road is nothing like it used to be, even all the banks have moved. As for bars many of the popular ones never re opened after Covid. The current bars have upped the prices and now it's getting expensive to eat or drink their. If it wasn't for the Germans and to a lesser degree Russians there would be boarded up businesses right along Naklua Road. By the way I see everything first hand as I've lived just near Soi 27 for the past 10 years.

When accessing Kasikorn bank online I get this thing to click and slide but it doesn't say which way. I've tried sliding it in all directions and it doesn't work. Is this another Thai brain fart, if things are working ok then leave them alone.

Pattaya Arrest: Thai Woman Accused of Drugging, Robbing Tourist
Mason45 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
When I first met my wife to be she insisted that I buy a gold necklace with a Buddhist amulet to wear it was 4 baht gold. Over the years I refuse to wear it and it's been in our safe for the past 15 years. At the time I bought it gold was 7,000 baht so it's been a good investment if I ever decide to sell it. -

Most of these punks obeyed mummy and went to Buddha spending time with the monks. So it could've been much worse if it wasn't for their Buddhist teachings. The parents should be made responsible and if their sons commit serious crimes then they're the ones who should be doing jail time. This will never cease as Thais couldn't give a rats ass what their kids get up to when they should be in bed preparing for school next day.- 32 replies
