  1. "I have a team here [at TCSD] and at the Royal Thai Police HQ. Our team searched the keyword "coup" and we found posts by these four persons. It was not difficult. We didn't have a particular watchlist."

Cutting edge investigative techniques brought to you by courtesy of google.

And how many hundred thousand pages did they find?

  2. They say they were sacked... just words, more than likely just moved to an inactive post so they can play more Hi-Lotongue.png

Bangkok Post, Thursday, says, "dismissed from duty while an investigation was under way."

The investigation will prove that they were only watching, not playing. No law broken. Back to business as usual.

    Amazing Thailand!

Bangkok Post today has an article that says they are NOT even suspended.

So we go from "fired" to "dismissed" to "not suspended". What next???/ (I needn't ask.)

  3. Thanks for the feedback, didn't realize device specific. That may explain. I will try and buy local in Bangkok at a Samsung dealer, as no time to wait for an online delivery. Thanks

Please let us know the shop, location and price

I bought today at the Samsung shop on third floor of Gateway on Sukhumvit. Price was 870THB. Works great. Shop lets you test it before you buy. Might have preferred a cheaper deal but life's too short.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking for an HDMI adaptor for Galaxy Note 8. I'll try Gateways.

  4. I wonder if the lack of demonstrators shows a realization that TS is taking things too far.

Maybe a bit of TS fatigue is setting in?

Also possible that folks are frightened that there will be violence and stay away, and IMHO the core fanatical reds are very capable of

serious intimidation of other protestors and violence, and all with the silent backing of the pt.

I think there is something other going on. Only if the Democrats want they can bring a 100.000 on the street over night. They are strong in Bangkok and they can mobilize half the south. It is just too little to be true....Keep it small to make the government overconfident so they make a big mistake?

I've been thinking this too. So few people... maybe it's some kind of plan. I read somewhere that that they have been planning these protests in secret for months. If that is true then a few thousand protesters seems very little.

  5. I think I have either misread reports or been confused by reports coming out with conflicting information. To my understanding the protesters are not allowed to gather in the 3 districts mentioned under the ISA. Therefore, I don't see how the following is possible:

"the People's Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime will begin its protest against the government-sponsored amnesty bill by first gathering outside the Parliament compound from tomorrow to at least Wednesday, when the bill is due for deliberation."

This implies that the People's Army expects to stand outside the Parliament compound protesting, but my understanding was that they will not be able to get anywhere near it due to blocked roads.

Yes the roads will be blocked for anti-Thaksin demonstrator, but the police have been seen escorting bus loads of Red Shirts to Bangkok, they will not be blocked, because the UDD are part of the government. angry.gif

Where have you seen those reports? I thought that the red shirts will deliberately stay away from Bangkok to avoid confrontation.

  6. If a taxi doesn't want to bring me where I want or wants a fixed price, I leave the back door open and walk away to the next taxi smile.png

Works well, especially in rain cos they get soaked hehe

I used to do the same but not leave it wide open. I just used to close it gently so that it didn't shut properly and walk away as if i didn't know.

I think most taxi drivers have caught on to this as I find more and more of them just slide down the front window and ask.

Incidentally, I nearly had a bad experience once when i left the door open. The taxi started to pull away before he realised the door was open. He stopped his car, jumped out and started screaming something at me. I couldn't really hear as I had already walked away (behind his car). He was going to run after me but all the other cars that were stuck behind him started beeping their horns so he thought the better of it and drove off. I must admit i was a little worried that he would do a u-turn further along and come back but that didn't happen.

  7. O.M.G. ,, Better stop my G/F from using facebook

I used to know a girl who claimed that her uncle was about to be released from prison after serving five years for killing someone for 10,000 baht.

She had just found out that her "boyfriend" (a farang) was already married and said that she would pay her uncle to kill the farang for 10,000 baht. She had the money because the farang had just paid her off with 50,000 :)

I don't know what happened as she went abroad and I lost contact with her.

  8. As Thailand moves closer to a Marcos style democratic dictatorship run by the Shinawats how long will it take for Thailand to become a mirror image of the broke and ineffectual Philippines. As Thailand gets closer to this model then there will be a coup, a few year away I think.

I doubt if there ever will be a coup in Thailand . I think that this government will, as you say, form a Marcos style democratic dictatorship but with complete control of the military thus preventing any coup.

I think there is a bigger danger of a civil war , especially if Thaksin does return to Thailand.

  9. I agree that a coup is the last thing that Thailand needs and many of you say "wait until the government is voted out by the people" ... the problem is that that won't happen for a long long time.

Any elections in the near future and Pheua Thai will consolidate their power.

This government will eventually control (own) the army, the police and the courts etc. So Thailand will have a dictatorship and it won't be long before that happens.

  10. Where do you guys live?? Here in BKK never have these problems ( and also not whenever traveling throughout Thailand) When I order in Thai or sometines English(depending on the place) or when Thai friends order... 90% of the times it's correct and that one other time its never a big deal.. Just like most other countries.

I live in Bangkok, Thong Lor. The restaurant that lost our order was on Thong Lor. This is a well established place so I was quite surprised at their mistake.

I think many restaurants have a huge turnover of staff so often the people serving don't really care if they make a mistake or not.

Yes, I've also noticed many of the Western Pubs have poor service and make mistakes too. Recently went to one with a friend and ordered a pork chop each. We waited about 25 minutes and the waitress came and said "Sorry Pork chop sold out". What the .... Does it really take 25 minutes to find that out?

  11. I always go out with my wife and or Thai family, so the ordering is always done in Thai, and I can honestly say I wad never had the occasion of not getting what I ordered.

Then you are bloody lucky mate.

Recently the whole Thai family got together for a nice Sunday lunch in a Thai restaurant. We were 20 people so you can imagine the amount of food we ordered. I noticed that we ordered the food at exactly 12.00.

Some of the family members hadn't seen each other for a few months so there was a lot of talking and most people seemd to forget about the time. After thirty minutes we hadn't received anything and I was getting bored. I can speak Thai but sometimes the conversation goes a bit too fast for me to join in so I just listen. Anyway I asked the waitress about the food to which she replied :Sakru na ka" and went away.

15 minutes later no food so I asked again :sakhru na ka"

5 minutes later some of the Thais noticed and politely asked for the food ... " sakru na ka" was the reply again.

The family went back to their conversation and at 13.15 I was getting pretty impatient and I saw the owner come in. I went up to her and asked where the food was to which she replied ..... sakru na ka". I couldn't stop myself and began to raise my voice to which some of the family members came over and helped me.

The owner went out and came back after a good 10 minutes (13.30) and told us that the order had been lost so we had to start again.

This was supposed to be a restaurant with a good reputation.

I can understand mistakes being made but losing an order for 20 people (probably about 300 baht each) is not a small thing. Needless to say we have never been back and never will go there.

  12. Corruption is so widespraed in Thai society that it will never disappear (or it will take many generations of hard work).

The other newspaper today reported that most Thais accept corruption ........ as long as they get some kind of benefit from it. That says it all.

  13. You download the Thai sub-titles separately and use the menu in your media player to attach the sub titles to the movie.

GOM and VLC are good for this. You can even change the size of the subtitles and advance them them up or retard them down if they are not quite in sync, but they are usually fine.

    http://www.thaisubtitle.com/manage/subtitle.php

will provide many Thai sub-titles for popular western movies and there are other sites if you do a search.

Tried this site but it comes with a pop up asking for user name and password

  14. Ah well. I must confess their service was tip top.

The technician arrived and the first thing he said was that a number of routers in this area had been damaged by a lightening strike. He came with a new router and it took him 20 minutes to set it up and get going. He was very friendly and polite so no complaints whatsoever.

    Happy ennding :)

  15. Must be my connection.

    I am on Thong Lor.

Oh by the way... the blood pressure is ok and I have lived here for 14 years.

I can get cable tv from True (even though it's semi illegat-_-) but still can't get Internet.

It worked well until True did their maintenance.

  16. True Ultra High Speed has been down today from 10.00 - 17.30 because of maintenance. Fair enough...I can live with that as long as it doesn't happen too often.

Well at 18.45 I thought I would give them a call as I still didn't have Internet. I had tried to reset the modem several times.

Anyway their technical support was good as usual and the guy could see that I wasn't connected.

He said that he would send a technician round to look at my connection. As soon as he said that I felt the anger rise inside me. I kept calm and told him that the last three times they said that to me nothing ever happened except the last time where I was contacted one week later by a technician who told me that he "had been to my condo today and fix Internet so now it was ok".

What a load of bullshit ... the Internet worked the day after I complained and I don't live in a condo I live in a house.

Anyway, I am now without Internet and let's see for how long.

Does anyone else use Cable....Ultra High Speed and if so does your Internet work now?
