  1. I could not possibly agree with you more. I feel very safe here, and in all the time that I've lived here I've never had an issue related to violence or security, never had my house broken into, never had a vehicle stolen, or broken into, and never had a violent encounter with the local. Unlike in America where I recently had my car broken into, and I've had multiple threatening situations over the years. A friend of mine lives in Berkeley and he told me that snatch and grab is becoming an epidemic, and he sees broken windows on cars nearly every morning. Thailand is very safe for the average expat or tourist, and I'm very thankful for that. I too love it here and I wake up every morning feeling very happy that I'm here. I do have some minor issues with the place, but they're fairly easy to overlook. For me, the quality of life here is very high.
  2. Well it is all relative, but you found them to taste watery compared to Chang, Singha and Tiger? I consider those beers to be horrendous.
  3. The recent events are worthy of a mass funeral. Thailand might have been the tiger of SE Asia a decade or so ago, having been the 22nd largest economy in the world, but those days are long gone. So, I would say it would be safe to refer to Thailand as an up and coming country, post Covid. I would not be surprised to see Thailand in 75th place in terms of GDP, 20 years from now. There is absolutely no doubt the nation is moving backwards, on at least a dozen levels. And unless a dynamic leader like Thanathorn or Pita is allowed to lead, the great tiger will continue to devolve into a whiny little street cat. Go ahead and stick with regressive, conservative policies, resist change and progress at all costs, and run your nation into the ground. Thailand mourns. For now, its future has been stolen once again by the army thieves and goons. The army is no doubt the enemy of the people, and so is the new stooge PM. The recent election shows that the people are both sick of being led by highly ignorant dinosaurs, with no interest in progress, and are interested in smart, young folks, who are serious, accomplished, capable of change, and interested in insuring that Thailand has a good future. Pita is exactly what this nation needs, at this point in time. However, he was too progressive, and the goons had to stop him, in the name of regression.
  4. My guess is that part of the filthy deal that the toxic army made with the morally bankrupt PT, to be able to join the current coalition, was that both Thaksin and Yingluck would be able to return, completely free of the prospect of arrest or jail. So, it's probably just a matter of time before she returns.
  5. Some cities are engaging in the process of culling these dogs, which I believe is the merciful thing to do since these creatures live lives of misery and desperation. It is unfortunate that some people have a misconception that feeding soi dogs earns some sort of Buddhavistic merit, which I think could not be further from the truth.
  6. Seems like this guy who attacked this man is mentally unstable as he's attacked other people in the past. So hopefully he'll be charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and locked up for the rest of his life, which is what he deserves. I hope this guy recovers. Chances are he will not retire in Hua Hin.

  9. I am from NYC. There are very, very few people in the greater NY area who like, or respect Trump. He has burned too many contractors, over the decades. Word gets around. Will they be able to find a decent jury pool? I really do not care, as I am hoping he gets the conviction he has worked so hard for, and deserves, for his lifetime of crime.
  10. They are just throwing darts into the wind. They have no idea. However, the beer his company makes is the only decent beer made in Thailand, at this time, in my opinion. It is far better than the other swill being offered.
  11. Phuket now seems to be the place that attracts the lowest of the low, the absolute gutter trash of foreigners. If you don't want to be squirted, if you don't want to be sprayed, if you don't want to get soaked you just don't go out on Songkran. You stay home. This idiot went out, he got squirted and then he got upset. Sounds like a numskull just looking to pick a fight. This is a perfect excuse to not renew his visa, you make problems here, you create havoc, you are sent home. Goodbye, see you.
  12. Back in the days before social media things were a lot easier for the RTP franchisees. Now that the word gets around to the extent that it does their jobs have become a lot more complicated, and some crimes just can't be covered up. Thankfully.
  13. I lived on Samui for many years and spent some time on Dark Tao. This was very commonly known news, it got to the point where the headman of Sairee had to force his son to leave the country for a while, as the pressure was getting to be too much. Everybody knew what was going on including the cops, who they owned.
  14. Well you seem to have a very superficial view of Mexico, there's a reason why it's the capital of Latin America when it comes to film, literature, theater, dance and so many other areas of culture including the fine arts. Mexican cuisine is amongst the most exquisite in the world when it's prepared by a serious chef with top quality ingredients, but you rarely find that kind of Mexican food in the US (with the exception of some truly outstanding restaurants) and you'll never find it in Thailand. The Mexican food here is really marginal. And the Mexican people can be really lovely, warm, friendly, welcoming, hospitable and a lot of fun to be around. If I live there I would likely have a half a dozen close male Mexican friends. I don't have a single male Thai friend here, after a decade and a half.
  15. Whether you're hate Samui or not, the top family's on Samui, that seem to run the island seem to do a pretty good job of maintaining discipline and not allowing maniacs to run amok, as is the case in Dark Tao. There does not seem to be any discipline on DT and as a result we seem to have a lot of killing. There is one guy in particular that seems to do it as a hobby.
  16. As an American I agree. I think America absolutely adores violence and killing. It seems to be ingrained into the DNA. The US is a very violent nation.
  17. Iran is a nation of terrorism, no doubt about that. They need to he stopped. But it is foolhardy to think that the actions of Israel do not have major blowback.
  18. The Burmese Army deserves to fall and the generals deserve to be exiled or put to death.
  19. What they really need to make plans for, is the devastation the Israeli and Russian wars are having on the world economy. The uncertainty and lack of consumer confidence those battles are causing are incalculable to the economy. Israel must be isolated and Iran must be punished. Some creativity must be applied. Israel is not capable of that. Only brute force and a sledgehammer. That is their M.O.
  20. Perhaps Namsod, the monster son of the headman of Sairee Beach is back. He appeared to have been banished, after his serial killing became international news, after the deaths of Hanna and David. Always felt bad for those innocent Burmese lads who were framed for that crime. The reality is, when you have amassed a fortune into the hundreds of millions of dollars, from illegal land sales, you are above the law. Any and all laws. Dark Tao. Visit at your own peril.
  21. I tend to agree, I have a lot of experience with Southerners and Texans and though they may be crude at times, they tend to be polite and gracious and fun to be around, which makes them the polar opposite of a typical Russian.
  22. Wrong. Just plain wrong. Do your research. The grief we feel as a nation over this tragedy is real. The terror I feel as a parent is nearly paralyzing. But paralysis won’t solve this problem. My professional life is dedicated to numbers and here’s one that every American should consider: 31,780. That’s how many children in the U.S. under age 18 have died from gun violence in the 20 years between 2000 and 2020. 31,780 children who will never get to hug their mom again. https://www.prb.org/articles/31780-reasons-to-care-about-gun-violence/ The U.S. experienced more than 600 mass shootings in 2022, nearly double the number recorded four years ago when there were 336, according to Washington-based Gun Violence Archive. https://www.voanews.com/a/us-gun-violence-soars-in-2022/6876785.html
  23. I moved from Samui for a dozen good reasons and the Ark Bar was barely even on my radar at that point. I moved to the mainland and I absolutely love it here, so contrary to your thought process Thailand is definitely for me. I wake up every morning feeling great for many different reasons. I love Thailand.
  24. Well Iran is certainly a bad player on the world stage, they are right up with North Korea and Russia. But Israel is not exactly innocent in all of this, the disproportion nature of response to the Gaza conflict has created a tremendous degree of hatred and alienation throughout the world.
  25. I tend to agree, if there were only a way to lock them onto the island once they were there, and prevent them from leaving and polluting the rest of the country.
