Its Official: west is boring
spidermike007 replied to Sparktrader's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
There is nothing more sexy and appealing than women who are capable and willing to manifest the incredible dignity and beauty within femininity. I see many incredibly beautiful women in the US, that are made so much less attractive by their inability to do so. It is as if their own feminine qualities, buried deep inside, scare them to death. Thrilled to not have to deal with them any longer. And my heart goes out to the poor men who have no choice. -
Its Official: west is boring
spidermike007 replied to Sparktrader's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I agree. Even with the culture I like to take advantage of in California (museums, live jazz, theater, ballet, stand up comedy) it is still boring. After just 3 weeks I can't wait to get back to Planet Thailandia. People here are so much more playful. Not to mention the gals. I find the west stifling. -
Thanks. Certainly there are ulterior motives. They are not exactly noblemen! I am simply shocked they made a couple of decisions that are of benefit to the people for a change. The timing is indeed suspect. And do not for one second think I like them now, or approve of their leaded ship on any level. 99% of Thais I speak to despise them. Just pleasantly surprised for a change. Progressive policy from Juraissic era men. Who would have thought that was possible?

Myanmar beauty queen granted asylum in Canada
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This administration has rarely ever been on the right side of history. And it is likely history will not be kind to them. -
I tend to support abortion, but I think there are few reasons why a woman cannot make up her mind to go in that direction, in the first trimester. However, overall this is a positive sign for Thailand. For a nation which is generally moving backwards, between this and cannabis legalization, this more or less proves that even dinosaurs are capable of making smart decisions, occasionally.

Myanmar beauty queen granted asylum in Canada
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Always wonderful to see a nation stand up to oppression, savagery, or totalitarianism. In other words Burma, Russia or China. Very heroic of the Canadians to do so. One cannot but notice that no offers were forthcoming from any member of ASEAN. Scared of Burma and China are we?- 72 replies

Health Ministry to Stop Reporting Daily COVID Cases on Oct 1
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Utterly untrue. Total panic mongering. The numbers are dropping in nearly every country in the world. The numbers here have dropped precipitously, and even in nations like Japan and South Korea, which saw huge spikes recently, the numbers have dropped dramatically. 776 total deaths worldwide yesterday, and only 300,000 new cases. It is barely a concern at this point. When will people just stop the panic, and show some willingness to move on?- 49 replies

Putin grants Russian citizenship to US whistleblower Edward Snowden
spidermike007 replied to Scott's topic in World News
This creep does not extend the same courtesy and hospitality to those who blow the whistle on his crimes, killings, imprisonments, government sponsored doping programs, etc. I could go on all day. Poor, poor Snowden. What a fate. -
Looks like the PI dodged a bullet, for the most part. It is a large storm, and is headed directly for Thailand. The outside edge is already hitting the western border of Vietnam, as I type. Alot of rain expected.

Cull the soi dogs. They are a plague. Most lead miserable lives of disease, hunger and desperation. Put them out of their misery, and improve the nation at the same time. Courage is required, and not strange notions of Buddhavistic merit. One bite results in the need for a series of rabies shots, which can be quite expensive. More than 59,000 people die of rabies each year because they cannot get the care they need. That’s about 1 person dying of rabies every 9 minutes. Most of these deaths are in Africa and Asia, and nearly half of the victims are children under the age of 15. https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2015/p0928-rabies.html

Good point. Barely, but I do remember the grief, the constant debates, the agony, the frustration, and lack of emotional support, the lack of affection, the extreme lack of femininity, and most importantly, the lack of harmony, and that wonderful feeling of waking up next to a really good woman who always has your back!

"gives us some idea of how this may impact what Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput has described as a fragile and uneven economic recovery with the country trying desperately to move beyond the disaster inflicted on the economy in 2020". Talk about an understatement. How and why was this disaster inflicted upon the economy? I would go one step further, and include the Prayuth decimation as one of the causes of the economic stagnation we are seeing now. This was not entirely circumstantial, and the revisionist history is already beginning, it would appear. So many things could have been done, to ensure a softer landing, when covid was not a factor anymore. The highly selective economic shutdowns which favored cronies, at the expense of the average Thai were punitive and extremely damaging, resulting in higher suicides, homelessness, crushed lives, countless lost businesses, and a further spread of the disease. The destruction of the tourism industry (which some might argue was a purification campaign in disguise, meant to get rid of nightlife and the sex industry) went on far longer that it should have, leading to far fewer tourists returning here, as the nation has largely been forgotten. The restriction were way too much, for far too long. I know taking responsibility for one's actions is not exactly a strong suit here. But, Prayuth, Phiphat, Prawit, and Anutin are directly responsibility for much of the economic woes we are seeing now, and should be held responsible, and called out on this. The numbers do not even begin to reflect the amount of damage done to the cash economy, which is never counted in unemployment numbers, lost GDP, lost businesses, etc. Covid was one small factor. Irresponsible actions, an extraordinary lack of leadership, choosing a vaccine with the lowest efficacy available, refusing help from the international community with the vaccines, until it was too late, and showing extreme cowardice by keeping the door to tourism closed for far too long, and then opening with draconian restrictions, were huge mistakes, and someone needs to be held responsible. Perhaps this is part of the reason Prayuth was dismissed?

Seems to be the case. My brother in law is running for the position of headman of his village. My wife, her sister, and their team is running around the village buying votes. She said that is the only way, and the traditional way. Likely some will vote for him, as he is a good man, and they know him. But, one of the other candidates seems to have more cash to spread around, so who knows?

The most important detail they failed to mention, is that it will continue to be closed to foreigners. Burmese nationals only, possibly Thais. That is it for now. From what I hear, Thailand has been pursuing the opening of this border for years, for everyone, as it would be a major tourist draw for Prachuap province. Imagine a road directly to the Andaman? The Burmese continue to drag their feet. One explanation I heard from a friend who is married to a Burmese woman who comes from a wealthy family, is that the generals have alot of interests in mining, timber, and other resources, that they generate billions of dollars a year from, and they do not want that border open, to protect their interests. The other aspect of this, is that Burma is highly restrictive, of granting permits to hotels, to allow foreigners to stay. There are very few accommodation, and very little development, or even roads, in this part of Burma. And according to Google maps, the Burmese have made very little promise with the highway to the sea, even though it was promised to the Thai officials, many years ago.

You don't want it. Intellectual stimulation in a relationship comes at a very high cost. Even though my wife is very smart, I do not get much intellectual stimulation from the relationship. But, I get so much else. And in all of the relationships I was ever in with really smart women, who I got intellectual stimulation from, there was also so much grief to contend with. Such combative women. So much competition. Yikes. Thrilled to death to have left all of that behind. When I was only in the relationship for a year or so, I had dinner with a very sharp American friend. I asked him about that. He laughed. He said, when you feel the need for intellectual stimulation, call me. We can hook up for the meal, and break down the origins of the cosmos. Do not fret. That same brain that gives you that stimulation, also tends to give you so much grief, it is not worth it, on any level. Get over it. Enjoy all of the other qualities, that make your day so delightful and fulfilling. Great advice, that I have followed to this day. I learned long ago that an intellectual woman, who can match me intellectually, also tends to be a combative woman, and the chance of harmony is low. I for one, love a harmonious house, where my woman is joyful and light hearted, with a great sense of humor, and an amazing attitude toward life, and us. Just my point of view. Whatever works for you, stick with it.

I will be curious to see how voraciously the populace will want to express their extreme dissatisfaction with the so called leadership here. These guys are despised like never before. Now that criticism and protests will be legal again, I expect alot of demonstrations. Will be interesting to see how the goons will try to muzzle that, censor the media, etc. Of course if they had a free and fair election, all of this would be irrelevant.

There are a few misconceptions here. First of all, cannabis is not addicting. It does create some psychological dependence, but that is not the same as an addiction, such as one has with more serious drugs such as opiates. Stopping the use of cannabis is relatively easy, and results on no physical withdrawal effects at all. Second, if someone is very weak, and already has some mental health issues, perhaps cannabis could exacerbate that. But, I seriously doubt it "creates" mental health issues of any sort, in most cases, for adults. Kids could be different. I stated using ganga at 13. But, it was nowhere near as powerful back then, as it is now. That is part of the issue. And @Tropposurfer accurately quoted, if someone is already susceptible, it may put them over the edge. It is likely not a good idea for someone who has significant pre-existing conditions to use very powerful strains of ganga.

Have you considered selling the collection in the UK, and buying art here locally? There is some good, original art to be found at Chatuchak. Nice work for around 20,000 baht per painting. The acrylic work is very durable, and I have not had any issues here, with the two dozen plus oils I have in two different homes here. Yes, I know a very good framer in Bangkok. They have done some stunning work for us, and I have attached a couple of images. This is not local work, but rather Cuban surrealist oils. If you PM me, I can show you some images of local work I have acquired here, that I think is very good. I have attached their contact info. They do alot of work for MOCA, the top fine art museum in Thailand, up near Don Muang. If you have not been there, it is worth a visit.
