Thailand’s Bold Move: Decriminalising Sex Work Sparks National Debate
recom273 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
They were prevented from getting the free handouts over Covid because they didn’t have a contracted job. However, doesn’t stop them paying into the national pension plan as the article mentions, everyone can do it, they have offices in every city. Also, it’s not an issue to register and pay tax here, is it? I’m not too sure what benefits paying tax would bring. -
Minister Pushes for Bangkok F1 Race Plan with 2024 Deadline
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
The idea of a Bangkok GP has been touted since 1934, by Prince Bira - there is already drawings for the circuit. I think last time the idea was promoted in 2015, the opposition from environmental groups forced legislation to prevent it happening. I was looking for the link which I’m sure was in BP, so couldn’t be posted here. But there is a proper law preventing a Grand Prix event in BKK. -
Minister Pushes for Bangkok F1 Race Plan with 2024 Deadline
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
The concept or Buriram is great, stadium and track, but the hotels can’t accommodate all visiting fans for domestic football games, even the finest hotel in the city probably wouldn’t meet the expected standards. I know nothing of GP but I gather the circuit is fine for bikes but not much else. -
You can get a work permit on a non-o marriage, working on a retirement is prohibited. If you are on a marriage extension, there is no need to go back to a non-b. I always had a marriage visa (I had multiple entry at that time) and a work permit, I taught in a school and didn’t want to be beholding to a school who would remove my ability to stay here, if I left their employment.

Are cars legally required to stop for a zebra?
recom273 replied to berro's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I don’t really get into the city much, but I have started to see a bit of disturbing habit amongst the young, in the west, the placement of zebras are usually on smaller streets with low traffic flow, but here there seems no similar town planning rules. There are crossings in the town near a school, crossing a 4 lane main road, and another near to the uni - in the UK, as pedestrians we are taught to consider the driver, you wouldn’t just step out giving the motorist no time to stop, but I have seen young students just crossing using a variety of techniques, one technique is sheepishly standing at the side of the road and for no reason jump into the road and crossing in short spurts, often stopping in the path of moving traffic to grab hold of another kid attempting the manouve, the worrying one is entitled walk giving no consideration to wether the car can stop safely. I will always consider stopping at a crossing unless I have a fast moving car close to my rear, which happens a lot here, in which case I would defend my right not to stop. It’s all down to education on both sides. Students should be taught to not run on a crossing, to proceed at a uniform speed when it safe for vehicles to stop, not because they think they are entitled to cross. -
Ultralight flight carry on luggage.
recom273 replied to Asquith Production's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
idk about international flights in Asia, but when I fly I feel a sense of frustration and laughter at the locals, especially on a Sunday night out of Bangkok. The locals have a backpack, a purse, a wheeled hard case outside of the size limits but can still be squeezed into the locker with a shoehorn, a bag of Krispy kreme, another couple of plastic bag of food items or shopping and no one says a word! Yes, Asian budget airlines will charge you if you volunteer to pay but if you just do whatever you want, you won’t be challenged. Sometimes the assistants will take larger items at the door and put them in the hold or another locker for free. -
The series is 3 episodes as you say correctly, is aired on ITV at around 90 mins per episode - then it seems to be rebroadcast on other channels, maybe they cut them to 6 episodes. Sometimes happens with long episodes, for example Rocco Schiavone.

No need to replace the Huawei , but possible - just put it into bridge mode and like your buddy said, hardwire to the extender and use AP mode. 3BB will supply you with a ONT if you ask and pester them - you can even buy your own - this is an optical terminal that has no routing capability - if you want to buy your own from lazada @Mutt Daeng wrote a guide on how to config it, then run an ethernet cable to your TP link router. ETS: Bridge mode to ethernet > router > AP - you will need something to handle the routing of your traffic over the whole system.
-
It sounds like you need a decent home network, like you said, put your router into bridge mode, connect a series of mesh wifi access points throughout your house. I have used TP deco mesh in the past, but moved to unifi because I wanted PoE rather than mains powered. The deco M9 was a solid choice, although not always great for range. I would run some external cat6 cable in hdpe pipe underground to the annex, or an outhouse and place a AP to cover the annex. A drum of cable isnt expensive and hdpe is just cheap irrigation pipe. Cheap range extenders and power line might seem like an alternative, but I think with a network, you just want to setup and forget, there's nothing worse than being pestered to restart the router or the extender keeps on dropping out, maybe you want to expand one day and you have to rethink again. I installed a cat6 infrastructure to points around my property, then I can run switches and AP's into that to ensure coverage, I can add or adjust as necessary. Unifi have an online tool to assist with network design, https://design.ui.com/wizard - I uploaded the floorpan of my house, provided a scale and I can visualize the wifi coverage over my land - I'm not suggesting you should go out and buy a unifi system, but you can use their online tools to see what would be a viable solution rater than use trial and error.

That's quite strange, with regard to working parties / village life (I never get asked anyway, my wife is just one of the "madam" Mia farang anyway) but when you speak to locals they are unaware of the hoops we need to jump through to get a visa, or the need for a wp, they just presume because we are married that we can just do whatever we want, and that most westerners dont do anything because they are loaded or incapable - I remember painting my road facing lounge and attracting an audience who watched in disbelief as they couldn't paint a wall with a roller themselves.

Yeah, I have seen them all so subs are available. I think one season was Google translate tho’ - The new seasons, S06 doesn’t have English subs, but I’m sure they will appear one day.

New series this week. Also, a new series of mocro mafia and the Danish, those who kill, but I'm unsure if it will come with English subtitles.

I’m pretty sure he means this https://m.imdb.com/title/tt11016042/ It also has a title In capital letters, putting 2 and 2 together. No, 🤦♂️ not the talented my ripely. Ripley is the story of a 50s / 60s (idk, seems to be a little vague on the time) grifter who takes a simple job in Italy. The locations are excellent, as is the tale, it’s quite slow and drawn out, lots of artsy shots, in a neo noir fashion. I enjoyed it, but I like stuff like this, a lot of folks won’t.
-
I think you mean RIPLEY? I’m not a fan of noir, but i really enjoyed the series. Not too sure if it’s the best since BB, but nice mini-series worth a watch.

What is the best way to watch old movies at home in Thailand?
recom273 replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Entertainment
If you have a VPN you can point it in the direction of Albania, the government prohibits the monetization of videos. Here is a list. https://isthischannelmonetized.com/data/youtube-monetized-countries/ Have you looked on apple iTunes or whatever they call it now for older films? I think you pay $1.99 or something, but cant be sure. -
I just came to say, idk if anyone is still interested but there are 2 new 24 hours, they are naming them as “specials” on the tvdb sites, so the tv cappers or usenet put them up as S00, supposed to be e23/24 which might be you S17E02 - I also found e23 The devils chain, I downloaded that one too, as I think I also missed it.

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
recom273 replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Yes, I saw this on YouTube. its pretty cool, the sensor is still quite expensive from what I remember. You don't need to own a 3D printer to use esphome, but I'm sure you would find it useful. I have a broken down ender 3, it does the job well now. I use it all the time, for instance, I want to put my construction laser level on a light stand as I'm putting up shelving all over the place - I need a 1/4" to 5/8" - I could order one from amazon, maybe take 10 days, an a few $, the shipping probably costs more than the item or print one https://www.printables.com/model/171219-tripod-adapter-14-20-fm-to-58-11-stud in an hour. -
This is the thing, although there are some Texas stores, the ones we used to visit were in petrol stations, they took over the spots in “Jiffy” stores left by A&W. So what will be next? I will miss Texas (kinda) because they were convenient and cheap, the food ok, you could park outside, eat, then get a refill coke to go.

What are you using for sensors? I have been playing with esphome using BME280 sensors, you could even use a BME680 to give you more environmental variables. I like the code but the project has been taken over by homeassistant, Sometimes it’s a little tricky to use without running HA. -
Smart Home automations - anybody using?
recom273 replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Just because you isolate your system doesn’t mean you don’t get alerts. There is need to control how it’s exposed to the internet, and what communicates with the outside world. For privacy concerns, financial reasons, and that I don’t need to, I don’t use any cloud services, everything is hosted locally. This doesn’t mean I can’t control the ac from my phone while I’m driving home - Apple home / CarPlay is pretty good for this, cameras can be accessed via a reverse proxy - my traffic passes via cloudflare just like this website. You can put cameras on separate VLAN and use bridges within your firewall so that your network isn’t being accessed by other parties. Alerts can be pushed to messengers by bots on telegram or webhooks, or there is open source software such as ntfy, which will push notifications from your security system or any other system like your solar or power management system. -
There have been so many times that I have passed overturned cars on straight dual carriage way, like how do these guys manage it?

lol .. yes, I can appreciate that, maybe it seems that I'm talking in a different language. I just mentioned a lot of things because the first posts in a thread like this are always about privacy concerns, whether it’s Chinese devices calling home or data harvested by google - I have none of this, most of the software mentioned is open source and / or hosted locally. The next thing is as @OneMoreFarang pointed out, home automation should be automatic, if you need to pull a cellphone from your pocket and decide what platform you should use then it’s not automation, it’s replacing a switch with a cellphone. I like automation - its a good topic, I like to hear about how others integrate smart homes into Thai lifestyle, for me it’s a lot of DIY because I don’t have an unlimited budget or access to some things that are available in the states or a Europe. -

recom273 replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
I use automations, which I trigger with a whole heap of cheap aqara pir sensors, tuya occupancy, espresence, nothing is allowed to connect to the internet, I just use a local server. I use node-red behind the scenes, the general aim is to have everything automated but I use Apple home as a front end on a wall mount ipad to keep it simple for visitors or when automations don't fire. I have Alexa’s but they don’t connect to the Amazon servers. I use HAA to flash sonoff relays, I’m not a fan of company firmware for privacy reasons. I have been playing around with esphome building sensors, i don't need a HA dashboard, but it’s good to log environmental data for future garden automation and display using grafana. I’m haven’t fully moved into my new house but it’s all good fun.
