  1. Just to let you know my budget teaching setup .. FYI, I just wanted a mic that I could use with a mixer, so wanted an XLR rather than a USB mic and I ended up with a Maono PD100 Podcasting mic, I think it's more than OK. They have other mics that may suit, but the PD100 suited my budget. I use a fifine low profile mic stand, this isnt too important to you - and I bought a fifine ampligame, this is probably the weakest link, probably generates a bit of hiss but I needed something to manage the headphone volume manually when moving between different students and times of the day. Thai apartments are pretty bad for sound recording, I have foam panels in my room which I made, and a woolen rug - but quality isnt so important to me - I have heard of people who do voiceovers using duvets or up ending mattresses - or both and making a little makeshift recording booth, Software - always audacity https://www.audacityteam.org I think they had a recent big update - you can mix down your vocals there, by tweaking the levels and adding compression. Really i'm happy with the mic and would recommend it for a little over 1000B. Comes with a desk stand too.
  2. I sold a couple of bikes of FB marketplace in the past, it wasn't a great experience, a lot of people asking if I still had the bikes and then asking the price - which was clearly on the ad, then never responding. I had a lot of people asking for discount before even seeing the bike (which was reasonably priced for a fast sale). Out of so many discussions, extra photos, and questions, one guy actually appeared. I saw a couple of marketplace posts, from westerners I presume, saying, no discount, no I dont want to add LINE, messenger only. Now I am back on fb marketplace selling small stuff - idk why? cat beds that were bought that they would never use - 100B each - etc .. we get enquiries within mins and no reply, then forever "add LINE" - Can anyone explain why? and why do some people not want to add LINE - I prefer not too, it drives me crazy. Is there an associated scam or can business be conducted outside of marketplace or something, idk?
  3. Like many others, I have had bikes in the 500K+ region - I know that “proud new bike” feeling, it’s awesome, you want to take steps to protect your new possession. However, I never really had an issue - from what I see on Thai TV, most thieves just pick it up and throw it in a truck. No lock or alarm is going to help. Just get good insurance. Ironically, we have an old kickstart dream, with a sidecar, the dream cost 10K. We went to big c and instead of checking into the parking lot, left it outside a next to a food stall. On return, a screwdriver was jammed in the key and the steering lock broken in a way that we couldn’t move it. The woman said some kids were sitting on the sidecar, while waiting for food, chatting away, she didn’t think anything was strange at all. Strange that something worth so little was worth stealing.
  4. Excellent! I have been dragging through the first series of Arctic Circle,a Finnish series, I saw it had made it to the 4th season, so figured it would be good, but really pretty boring, it will be good to get fit something else into the wait for Fridays The Agency, Silo and Landman.
  5. Is that a German thing? Sliced roast potatoes? just asking.
  6. I'm surprised 47 seasons in 20 years. I don't mind a bit of crap TV from time to time, I thought Channel 4's Alone was worth a watch along the same lines as survivor.
  7. Absolutely! There is no place in this day and age for elephant tourism. It may be in question that they are domesticated or not, I agree with you - however, it’s all animal exploitation. To tame these animals they undergo an unpleasant process of breaking at a young age by the mahoot, it’s called “crushing” (I don’t cite wiki as an impartial source, but just for reference). I don’t remember the need to train my cat in such a manner. We now have non-contact ethical sanctuaries, filled with rescued animals - rescued from where? Elephants were stopped being used in logging since 1984, so now elephants are produced to be dragged around the villages peddling trinkets or perform tricks at fairs aimed at the local market. They are offered as rescue animals, I hear it costs 1M THB from an owner, others may be temporarily rescued by renting them. These ethical sanctuaries are money making enterprises. The whole elephant tourism game is shady - it should be stopped.
  8. Yes, the whole thing is questionable. It was a popular activity, along with elephant riding. Elephants don’t really appreciate the bathing process or need washing on a daily basis. These days it’s frowned upon yet some places do it, usually those who still offer rides. Maybe now, the activity will be outlawed .. but maybe it will be just driven underground - although non-contact, ethical elephant sanctuaries are the rage amongst western tourists, I hear that there are still camps that cater to Asian tourists who demand elephant riding, petting, feeding, etc.
  9. Persona After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, a retired judicial officer decides to commit a murder that he had been planning for years. S01 is available with subs but not S02
  10. No .. I don’t think it’s anything to do with being a Brit .. I think it’s about being retarded to appreciate it. I downloaded two seasons of the cleaner - another bbc comedy about a crime scene cleaner, at a Brit, I was just as confused as how anyone could find this humour.
  11. I just checked earlier regarding ghee, out of interest more than anything. I think it's down to personal preference myself, im sure a diet of ghee wouldn't be over healthy. I find canola a balance, and you are correct about GMO seed and the use of chemical solvents in the manufacture. I also use rendered pork fat for roast potatoes, palm oil for French fries, - we dont eat so much of it and it has a high smoke point. I think if we read so much into this, then we should stop eating meat, stop eating pesticide ridden vegetables that is sold in the market here, stop eating anything in this country with processed sugar, even the rice growers here seem to throw chemicals at it in favor of higher yields - we would be limited to eating raw bamboo shoots scavenged from the bush..
  12. If this is not news, apologies, we wouldn’t normally buy this, we make our own at home. Damn you CP co. man made bacon! it even has streaks of fat.
  13. I had an incident the other week, dinner at a mates house - an Aussie guy has a Thai wife, just visiting from Auz where they live, he has no interest in Thailand, can't speak Thai, never came here on holiday before meeting his wife in Auz. The Thai conversation scene shifts, you can hear the Thai speakers speaking a little more aggressive, their faces screwed up. My wife is sitting next to me and we can hear the conversation across the patio - The Aussie guy becomes concerned and enquires along the lines of "is everything ok, the mood seems to have shifted" - I said "Its OK mate, they are just talking about food", my wife speaks good English, laughs and agrees.
  14. Canola oil is a sweetspot between price, taste and health for us. Ricebran is ok but sometimes a little expensive - soya production has some negative environmental effects, right? I feel canola has some issues too. ETS: Yeah, the seed is often genetically modified, but is listed as a sustainable source.
  15. This was mentioned by some Italian speakers .. You can find the files with hardcoded subs kicking about PS is no one going to start a 2025 thread?
  16. I tried this before, I posted on here that the reporting time from 15 days until the date, not the 7 days after. So the last one, I filed in the window stated. Didn’t work. I have 17 successful reports, over two offices, there was even a time when the visa expiration date had changed, it was still accepted - for the last two, it has been rejected, two reasons given - Mai dai and Mai lue.
  17. It's sad really, I wish there nothing was posted at all. I wrote some code for a microcontroller in AI the other day, awesome, I now have an automated roller blind - My sister wanted some artwork of cars that resembled a drawing from a Haynes car manual and the AI understood and converted a photo to a line drawing. Amazing results. I understand that AI has a pretty important role in today's world. However, then I get homework submitted that's obviously been written in ChatGPT, and every student has the same homework. Then I come here to AN and read a clunky and obvious attempt at an AI forum post. I can think of better uses.
  18. Maybe interesting, on showtime.
  19. I think it’s only in Dutch atm, it hasn’t been picked up by Amazon yet. I started the first episode years ago and then left it, I’m still unsure if it’s any good or not. It seems an interesting tale, an unusual partnership, I’m sure he will lose his new position, idk. We had a good run of TV recently, Cross, The Madness, Helicopter Heist - Things have kind of dried up, so time to watch some series that have been in waiting. Really enjoying Landman - the BBT character is excellent. Im still waiting for the English subs of the current series of Mocro Maffia ..
  20. I noticed Klem - a Dutch drama series got a 4th season, so decided to watch the first season to see how it could make 32 episodes. Quite an addictive tale of a released convict and a strait laced tax man. The first was featured on Channel 4’s Walter presents .. some subsequent series were released on Amazon. Gets some mixed reviews, mostly good, I think.
  21. ahhh .. it’s a movie .. I thought it was a continuation of ferry: the series.
  22. Really? I never had an issue with the whole process. In HY one guy came, everything was a formality short and sweet - they wanted photos on the bed there which is a bit of an imposition. Generally HY office is pretty straight up, I didn’t mind them. There are so few expats down that way immigration has more lucrative avenues of making money than extorting westerners, I think we are seen more as an inconvenience. In KKC two guys came, we made them sit in the garden. I prepared two witnesses, they made them sign, and then loitered about making small talk about my bikes, obviously expecting the missus to say “oh, thanks for coming, here’s a little something ..” as some would do. My wife didn’t see their angle, lol, and she kept on babbling on, they wasted a further 10 mins there.
  23. Yessss! We bought a Dunlop matress from an ad on fb, we did a bit of research with the link provided and you ordered it directly from the factory. There was a sale on this specific range, the price was right, not the 30-50k range maybe 10-20 - so, to hell with it, we just bought 2x they couldn’t be a worse that the pile of springs that we had. It turned out to be the best mattress I have ever slept on, for the first weeks, I couldn’t wait to go to bed. I guess you could go and check each range at a shop before spending over 1000 USD on it.
  24. I have had no problems with any home visit - the OP doesn’t mention where he will be applying, just for experiences. My suggestion is that it is generally painless. The other poster has similar experiences (who is in Chaiyaphum, the OP probably won’t apply their either) asked questions by an over zealous IO. Like I said, in KKC, it’s just a formality, you file your application, the FLS check the documents efficiently and then an IO processes the visa pretty swiftly.
  25. urghh .. that’s so annoying. In Hat Yai, there was a nice young female immigration officer, easy to understand her Thai. The following year she moved to retirement visas. The new woman was plain rude, we didn’t click and I just didn’t want to talk to her. She tried to ask me about how I could afford to live in Thailand as I wasn’t of retirement age, i said “I rent out properties in the UK” “aha .. gotcha, you said investments last year” to which I replied, well isn’t that the same thing, I wasn’t so specific last year, sorry, then she went to “so .. what’s your parents name?” I looked at my wife, and we both said in unison “mum and dad” and had a good laugh together. She went crazy, telling me she was a police captain, that she was to be shown respect at all times. She continued to tell me on my report that my Thai language was very good, but I hadn’t spoken any Thai today. I informed her that I sometimes I don’t like to speak Thai and for official business it’s better to speak English. She tried to tell me that she was doubtful that I was the same person who applied for a visa the previous year. There was no issue with the application, she was just puffing out her chest. I never saw her in the subsequent years, but I heard her in the next cubicle giving the applicant the third degree, needlessly too, people generally don’t retire to Hat Yai for an easy life, there has to be something that keeps you there.
