  1. Do not forget the annual maintenance budget. Stop putting it in your pockets.
  2. Not sure if that helps. Older guy here has a young girlfriend - a nurse. He fell down the slope in his garden (very steep) and could not get up. His GF called a neighbour. The neighbour contacted his wife. His wife contacted a friend who spoke Thai. The friend contacted Samui Rescue. Samui Rescue contacted us for details. (We provide security.) Whilst the Chinese whispers were going on, the guy was in pain with a dislocated shoulder. Rescue eventually got the guy onto the road and off to the hospital where they checked him for and operation. Fail - he had a heart condition - the nurse girlfriend had never spotted anything. They had to ship him to the mainland to have a pacemaker fitted before they could operate on the shoulder. I was surprised about the heart condition. I did not think that the miserable, tight-fisted git had one.
  3. A further five years in gaol for pointing at the copper with his foot. A big no-no.
  4. A bit too over the top for my taste. Six in the first two sentences. I stopped reading after that.
  5. They weren't fishing, they were teaching worms how to swim.
  6. A 24 year old guy with 13 year old girl. That is just sick. Statutory rape in there surely.
  7. Sorry, but the TM 30 system is not to blame. Many landlords do not want to record that they are collecting rent from a property. The reason is tax evasion. That is one of the main reasons that they will not do the the TM 30. You can process a TM 30 yourself but you will need a copy of the owners id card and house book. A lease is also required. A general rule (but not always the case) - cheaper properties stay under the radar. More difficult to extend a visa. Other properties that advertise through booking platforms (AirBnb etc) tend to be more honest. It is in their booking rules.
  8. Sorry, but very little sympathy for the taxi driver. He may be innocent in this case, but after more than 24 years of being overcharged, it is difficult for me to fell sorry for him
  9. The attention grabbing headline is a bit overkill for the arrest of a Burmese lady selling fake lottery tickets.
  10. Not from what I have seen and heard. They are started by military wanting more power and funded by uber rich folk who are concerned that others are after their ill gotten gains.
  11. A Russian and a Ukrainian working together, Surely this should be encouraged.
  12. Nowt in Samui (again). Very breezy though.
  13. That is true, but from what I can remember, you opened the door and had to walk between the two carriages. There was nothing to stop you from falling off as you moved over the couplings. (But it was a long time ago and my memory is ........)
  14. Back in the 50s we knew how to take care of ourselves without being mollycoddled. A way of life that appears to be lost forever.
  15. I do not use them and I have managed to survive for more than 70 years without them. Weird eh?
  16. See my edit please. Without a smart phone yes, but I still use a phone for calls and SMS. (Mostly for friends.) Customers/guests can call me if there is an emergency. No apps or wifi on my phone. Everything else is e-mails on a laptop. None of my customers have a problem with that.
  17. When I bought a new bike from a dealer (with cash), they told me to wait until I had a new visa. There was less than one month of my one year visa left. As I started to walk away, they changed their mind and accepted the existing visa. I did show them my Thai DL and POR (work permit) I have also bought second hand bikes for cash. Sometimes they do not have a book, but I have never provided documents.
  18. Here on Samui they are more akin to the docs from M*A*S*H fixing all of the folk that crash their scooters.
