  1. Many of them are ???? but a few are not ????
  2. Sad to see the written word is in its death throes. Good luck with the new project, and it's goodbye from him......
  3. And still the government do nothing to help the majority of people in Thailand. Sad that petty crime is seen as then only option for some.
  4. A good description of the difference between decriminalise and legalise. Same as with Cannabis. It has been decriminalised but is still not legal except for medicinal cannabis.
  5. Airport taxis have been ripping people off since Noah was a lad. I had many arguments going from DM to my apartment back in the early 90's. I suppose that the only reason this is news is that they have stopped one driver.
  6. I suspect that the issue is more a lack of revenue during Covid. ???? All of those free extensions that many people took advantage of. Immigration are having to get their revenue stream going again. ????
  7. I wish that I had thought of an ombudsman 20 years ago but I was living in Thailand by then. Difficult to do by post?
  8. Not a chance but NatWest happily opened a new account for me.
  9. I wish them all good luck on this one. Legalise drugs but not sex? How dumb is that? Oh, I forgot. Anutin obviously does not make money from sex.
  10. This is no different to what has been happening in the UK (and other countries) for years. Back in the early 2000's I had my HSBC account in Bangkok and my Nat West account in Jersey closed because of my connection to a friend who was murdered by a guy who was wanted for money laundering back in the USA. It took me six months to prove my innocence. (With banks, you are guilty until you prove your innocence.) Six months without access to my salary and savings.
  11. If you do nothing, there will be mold. Here on Samui we run fans in every room, 24/7 and we also put one of these in every wardrobe and cupboard and leave the doors open when the villa is empty. (Cheaper running costs!!!)
  12. Nobody gave Bangkok Airways a monopoly. It is a private airport. Paid for by BA not tax payers. Before Covid, 7 - 8 airlines flew to Samui every day or week. The problem is that the airlines are short of working planes and staff. They have got to get some planes out of mothballs, get pilots up to speed again and hire more cabin crew. That all takes time and money.
  13. The police/immigration have been carrying out random checks here on Samui for years. Regularly, but not too frequently. They are looking for overstays, illegal workers and illegal immigrants. Last week they went into a shop and asked to see foreigner's work permits. No problem. They then checked the people against the immigration database. No TM 30 was recorded. They were taken to the IO. The landlord of the house contacted me and asked me what to do. In 20 years, he had never done a TM 30. I told get onto the online TM 30 system and get the guests on there quick. Luckily, long queue at the IO. By the time their number was called - they were in the system. ????
  14. Medicinal use is legal. Recreational use is not but that won't stop the dope heads from saying that it is perfectly safe.
  15. And Prayut is quoted by the Thai Enquirer as saying 'this is not violence'.
  16. Strangely enough, brake failure does happen. I am not saying that is the case here but..... I had a new car back in the late '80's when ABS was relatively new. The car would handle a 'strange' way now and again (not often) when I was braking. I took it to the garage a number of times and every time they said 'nothing wrong with the brakes'. One morning, driving down a steep hill and I had to brake hard. The car spun round and it ended upside down in a ditch. Garage collected the car, repaired it and then phoned me up to complain. 'Why didn't you tell us that there was a problem with the brakes - we just took it for a test drive and crashed!'. Duh! They finally found the problem. One side of the car's ABS would seize up now and again. I never drove it again - changed it for a different make.
  17. Along with other nationalities whose countries border Russia. Putin is not going to stop at Ukraine.
  18. According to the PM, what happened to this lady is not violence. Article in the Thai Enquirer. https://www.thaienquirer.com/48604/this-is-not-violence-in-thailand/
  19. That is a disgusting way to treat someone who is not breaking the law. Let's see how the PM's PR people spin that one around.
  20. I cannot comment on the T's and C's of the expiry, but do remember your 90 day reporting. A few Elite Visa users have fallen foul on that one. Also, here on Samui, for 90 day reporting, they also need the TM 30 to be recorded on their database. Make sure that your landlord, wherever you stay, submits it every time that you come or stay somewhere different..
  21. If anyone wants to see how busy the immigration police have been, this is a link recently sent to me. It is just one of their sites. Apparently there are a few. https://www.facebook.com/Suratimmigration?mibextid=LQQJ4d
