  1. My thoughts exactly. Well said. ????
  2. Not a very big increase seeing as borders were effectively closed in that previous year.
  3. Speaking to my insurance company, the rates in Thailand are not reasonable. Friends have had similar conversations with their insurance companies. Costs in Thailand are well padded once the hospital knows that an insurance company is involved. eg I went for biopsy at a very well known hospital in Bangkok. When I told them that I was paying privately, the quote/cost was 70,000 to 80,000 baht. When I asked for a detailed bill (and inadvertently said 'for insurance) the bill lept up to 120,000 baht. 'reasonable rates'? More untruths from politicians.
  4. That does not work if you have property here in Thailand (and lots do).
  5. People are desperate to travel now that they can. Lots of Canadians and Americans coming to Samui at the moment and with the $ exchange rate, Thailand seems cheap to them.
  6. Good advice from khunPer and from your lawyer. Also - put the water tank where is accessible for a water truck so that well water can be delivered when the city water is not available.
  7. You can have a 30 year lease plus another 30 but the extension is not automatic. I attended a course on Thai Law for Foreigners many years ago. It was well attended and some useful tips on buying land and owning houses. If the lease is just for your lifetime - no problem. If you have family and you want them to have access to the property after your death, then put them on the lease as joint holders. The lease cannot be passed on otherwise.
  8. A warm welcome to Samui. Unfortunately not the best time weather wise but we do get lots of sun - soon. ????
  9. Hmm. I cannot say that I agree with all of that thought. I have run a cleaning business here for 20 years and I only employ Thais. Yes - hard to recruit sometimes, but doable.
  10. Not really. There is no TM 6 anymore (and some people lied anyway). The information should come from the TM 30, but as we know from other threads here, many house owners do not fill in the TM 30.
  11. Ignore the kit car here but the rest are great. Travel around the country. Chiang Mai, Phuket, National parks Historical sites etc Visit Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Endless things to . The list is endless.
  12. My understanding is that it is not about your house book. It the the address where you registered your latest visa. Whilst at that address, you only need to process the 90 day reports. No need for TM 30 when you return to that address. When you stay anywhere else (in a different province?) then you do the TM 30. If you are at that different address for more than 90 days, then you also do your 90 day report there. You will need a print out of the TM 30. However - different people, at different immigration offices, sometimes think differently (when it suits them?)
  13. Some bars in Samui will be unhappy with this 04.00 closing. It means that they have to close earlier. ????
  14. Try reading the UK papers. Not a week goes by without there being a story of humans disfigured by strays. So I guess that the UK is not civilised. (I do not disagree with that statement.) Not going to happen in a Buddhist country sunshine. Try again.
  15. Where taxes and salaries are much higher and most people pay the garbage collection taxes - unlike Thailand where most people do not pay the taxes.
  16. Flying again now. KME 723 due to land 15.40 today. (Cambodia Airways.). Be good for a long weekend in PP. Trouble is, we are a bit busy this month! Hopefully I can get a break in January.
  17. Neither do most foreigners. How many here reading this pay the local garbage collection tax and have their garbage taken away by the Tessabaan?
  18. Please stop making very sensible suggestions. It is depressing when no one listens. ???? Everything that you write is correct, but we have a government here that is anti-foreigner, making laws and decisions that suppress free thinking and fun. They still think that we are in the 1950's. ???? Do not get me wrong. I love Thailand and I love the Thai people. Luckily I live far enough away from 'the government ' to be left alone. ????
  19. Oops DPM. Must not touch Muslim ladies. Culturally unaware when it comes to a photo op.
  20. No idea what this is but the PR people are obviously struggling to find good things to say about a certain person.
  21. Yes. I believe that electricity charges also go up then (18%). I am already paying 9 baht per Kw/Hr. And still the government spends money on infrastructure projects. eg 36 billion baht on DM airport.
  22. Kite surfing/kite boarding are popular on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Schools/rentals on both islands.
