  1. So he has been accepting a salary under false premises. Gaol him.
  2. I regularly forget my phone, and a good friend living nearby NEVER takes his phone when he goes out. I hope that the lass is found safe and well soon.
  3. Not a nice thought. One initial report said that the responders had found 10 bodies in the bus! There were 19 in the rear of the bus. The rest must have just been incinerated.
  4. When you have learnt to drive in a manual car, changing gear often is never an issue. It is happens without thinking. I learnt to drive a manual car more than 50 years ago. All of my cars have been manual ones but I have also driven hundreds or rental/company automatic cars. Floods and steep hills, manual is much better. (Very hilly where I live.) It is called clutch control. Not an option in automatic cars. Overtaking? Dropping a gear is quicker in a manual (and you can choose the gear)
  5. I haven't bought a new car for a while, but when I did, manual was not advertised as an option. However, on talking to the sales rep, I could and did order a manual version. Delivery took a while. It was a Mitsubishi. Great car.
  6. I have no issue with the taxes or the no alcohol hours. I can buy what I want 24/7. However, smaller breweries should be allowed so that we can drink decent beer rather than the Singha, Leo etc sweet stuff that have been the only ones available for years and running a monopoly. (Big C are pulling the more independent beers off their shelves already!)
  7. Let us hope that Hezbollah do not take anyone hostage.
  8. That is a horrific fire. Amazing that some kids managed to get out unharmed.
  9. And to Big Joe and all others calling for a cease fire - you are talking to Hamas and Hezbollah. They are both murdering, cowardly terrorists who, in spite of previous ceasefires, still sent rockets into Israel to kill innocent civilians. To the terrorists, a cease fire means that the others stop fighting, whilst they carry on building tunnels and re-arming. Terrorists never stop killing.
  10. Very biased committee. 56 Muslim members and one Jewish one. I wonder why the votes are always anti Israel?
  11. It's been sunny pretty much all year here on Koh Samui, especially where I live. We could do with a bit of rain though.
  12. Looking at the video, that was one hell of a wipe out. Very sad.
  13. Not really an equal comparison. The foreigner knew better but did the act through anger, hate and violence. The two underage girls should have known better, but at that age??? Probably thought that it was the norm after watching what adult Thais do to each other on news reports. However, I do agree with you that neither examples are acceptable.
  14. hmm. Factories closing and still the government are pushing for the minimum wage to be increased. Defies logic really. (When did shuttering become a word for shutting?)
  15. Careful what you say - he is aiming to be the next PM. We all know what he thinks about us foreigners. This is a typical knee-jerk by a politician. No pro-active thinking. He could have started the investigation earlier.
  16. Because it stops progress. The dinosaurs are terrified of change. Progress and change might mean their extinction.
  17. Thais yes, foreigners no. I do it all of the time here. Foreigners should know better. Rental bikes usually provide helmets. Their own bike, then they can afford one.
  18. Exactly. Just go anywhere and be someone else's problem is the mantra.
  19. So, a perfect time to increase the minimum wage - not.
  20. What foundations? From what I have seen, they clear the land, flatten it with a road roller and then lay the concrete. Road collapses happen all of the time here, the land is mostly sandy soil.
  21. All of the leases that we provide state that the rent must be paid within 7 days of due date. Not paid? - evicted. In 20 years, we have only held back the deposit once. That renter still has an outstanding bill for items that were no longer in the villa as well as unpaid utilities. I am not holding my breath for the payment of that bill.
  22. I use a Crumpler backpack. Not unlike the suggested above. The best selling point for me was a seperate slot for the laptop. I do not have to open the main bag.
  23. Have you ever been to a Thai hospital? I have never been asked to show id on visiting patients, including ones that have I driven to their homes. That includes both public and private hospitals.
