  1. It has nothing to do with the two motorbikes. The same thing would have happened if there were pedestrians there at the the time. It is just a terrible accident.
  2. The article in the BP states that there were no customers in the bar - just the staff. Would that still be 'operating beyond legal hours?
  3. Comfortable? Who are they kidding? I wear long sleeved rugby shirts when it drops below 22 C here. The coldest I have ever seen on the island is 19 C and that was a long time ago.
  4. 100% true. I am still 'under consideration' but it is already in the diary.
  5. I was told that Agoda and Booking.com are basically the same company - part of the same group? Just more choices on Booking.com
  6. key first then kick stand. As you say - if I do the kickstand first, there is a chance that I will forget the key. Especially as 1 schitte memory, 2 I usually leave the key in the ignition anyway. I leave the helmet on the mirror. Never put it away.
  7. Seems like a good solution to me. Walk until you are tired, fall asleep and never wake up. Much better than joining the Pattaya Flying Club.
  8. Here on the islands, I see many Thais driving bikes at night, with no rear light. I was told that they often take the bulb out so that they cannot be followed at night. I have no idea if that is the case here, but a stopped bike at night, on a dark road where one would not expect to see a bike stopped, would be difficult to see. Especially if there was no rear light. Also where the driver was wearing tinted glasses. Sad accident either way.
  9. Unfortunately, the butcher is unlikely to see the money that he is owed. So much for banking apps.
  10. Totally agree with the sleep apnoea thought. To the OP Ask the local doc or hospital for a sleep test.
  11. Approx 300 days of sunshine Hot weather Cold beer Spicy food Lovely people and this view
  12. Sorry Bob, but that ship has sailed. Too many ethnic Chinese running the country now. Xi is there best friend.
  13. Sad, but I have sympathy for the old lady. 93 with dementia, unable to walk. Hopefully at least, she has now found peace. RIP
  14. And where do 'poor Thais' get the money from to set it all up? The 'aid' that is mentioned in the article rarely has any cash left over for savings. Those folk usually live hand to mouth. Oh - silly me. I forgot - loan sharks where they only pay a gazillion baht a day in interest.
  15. But it is a great photo though. Putting the shoe on the other foot - how else can they get around to buy food? I suspect necessity rather then ignorance.
  16. Same as the guy from RB. He has not been convicted but there is/was supposed to be a 'red' notice out for him with Interpol. And he 'only' killed one policeman.
  17. But deporting asylum seekers probably is? Totally agree with your last statement though.
  18. Despicable men. Those poor young girls will live with this for the rest of their lives.
  19. I was told that Suratthani was the only place. Not sure who by. My experience was similar to yours except I went by motorbike. Never had to book a ferry for that. Certainly very quick service.
  20. Thanks, but I am in transit at Bangkok Airport. It will be straight to the next check in desk.
  21. In wars, there is always collateral damage. Sad but true. In the case of Gaza, the collateral damage is much higher because the terrorists hide with, behind and even under the innocent ones. It is all down to Hamas. Israel spent millions of dollars to keep their citizens safe. (Air raid shelters/systems, Iron Dome etc) Hamas spent millions of dollars building tunnels under hospital etc and buying arms. Very little (if any) for the citizen's safety.
  22. Very few countries (if any) pay immigrant workers the minimum wage. That is why they let them into the country. The wage is down to the employer. The immigrant workers, even though they may be paid below 'the minimum', still earn more than they could back home thus enabling them to send money to their families. That is why they apply to go there in the first place. Yes, some employers push the boundaries of what is acceptable - there will always be a few bad apples.
  23. I was at Bangkok Airways office trying to book flights for my trip at the end of December. Very few flights available. Outbound on the 25th - only business class on the first flight out. (There was limited availability on a later flight but I would have missed my connection in Bangkok.) Inbound on the 29th - forget it. I will have to overnight in Bangkok and catch the last available flight at 19:45 on the 30th. Oh well. I suppose I can find something to do in Bangkok for one night As an aside, the reason that I was at the office instead of booking online is because my resident's card had expired (no warning from BA). Next fail - you can only renew the card on-line. You can no longer talk to a human being face to face at the office. I now have to scan 14 pages of DBD documents and company papers to upload. 😒
