My oath was similarly low key. I was asked to turn up in a suit, with a candle, a lotus flower and incense sticks - of the kind people use when they pray at the temple. The shrine where I took my oath was in a small room in Special Branch. I knelt before it, clutching my candle, lotus flower and incense in a wai, while reciting each line of the oath as it was read out by the officer. No grand ceremony, but I'll never forget it.
