  1. in a cartoon on 4 August 1931, From Si krung newspaper which shows ' Cruel-faced giant does't plunder the fields but on the backs of the people'.

Thai was back in 1931, this is 2014 and corrupt politicians are the cruel faced giants, plundering the money earned by the hard working farmers.

A copy of this cartoon can be seen on page 110 in the book History of Thailand, written by Chris Baker and Pasuk Phongpaichit.

  2. But the big boss said we will set the market price. What went wrong???

If Thai farmers are only 45% efficient as there Vietnamese opposition in the rice trade, then A Government neefs to look at that problem.

Maybe adopting farlang farming methods may help!!!!

5555555 but we know that will happen !!!!! Soon !!!!!!!

Sent from my GT-I8160 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Fariang farming methods can only be used on large corporate farms. Planting rice with a machine would put the average rice farmer into a cost they can not afford. The ROI would not justify the expense. Spreading fertilizer pesticides and herbicides with an air plane, how much does that cost.

The present rice pledging could cause the average farmer to lose his land because of non performing loans. There by corrupt politicians could take the land and set up large corporate farms. They would need some help from their friends in the UAE.

  3. Is this an indicator than the consumer confidence had declined because of the activities of the Shinawatra government. Numerous promises were made by this government to get elected, and than it all went to hell in a hand basket. First Car, First Home, Tablets, Credit Cards for Taxi Drivers, and than we have all the pledging for agricultural projects, which appear to be all failures. The only people that profited from these activities were politicians and their cronies.

  4. Is the shortage of water caused by the dams in China and Laos? If there is a drought in Esan, the farmers can not grow rice, and the government does not pay them the money they are owed, they will lose there land to the Banks and money lenders. This is when you will see an upheaval of Esan farmers, rebelling against the PTP, and there will be a peoples coup. There will also be a migration to Dubai.

  5. What will the PTP do when the thousands of farmers and red shirts march into Bangkok? These people voted for and supported the Shin Dynasty, than they were lied to and cheated. Will will have P1 students and parents marching because of the " One Student One Tablet Program " which has not worked, but was used to buy votes. The cost of living has increased, but the Taxi Drivers have not been allowed to increase the Taxi fare.

  6. Today there are many blind fools who are demanding their right to vote

But what are they voting for ?

How can you vote for democracy. When their is only 1 party to vote for

Todays vote is for democracy or dictatorship

If today you vote in a government that has no opposition only one party in power it is a dictatorship not democracy

    The protestors have learnt

you can good some Thais all of the time

But you can no fool all Thais all of the time

The blind fool has posted. "Only one party to vote for", where did you get that incorrect information from?

Be sensible and at least a little honest. There is only 1 major party running in this election. There are quite a few constituencies with no one registered as a candidate (only a "vote no" is possible?) and quite a few constituencies with only a single candidate. Sorry I don't have exact numbers. There are lots of smaller parties, however they don't have candidates everywhere. So, while technically true that there is more than one party, there is only one major party running in this election. Of course, the election is a bit of a waste since it cannot produce enough MP's (unless someone has some trick in their bag), minor detail. If I'm wrong, which alternate party could be considered a major party and also have the potential of electing a majority of the MP's?

    Old wine new bottle.

  7. PT has a plan to pay back any loans.

As I posted on a related topic :

However some truth slowly emerges, As reported elsewhere from the finance ministry :

They plan to use (transfer) the budget set for infrastructure investment to pay the farmers.

That would be the 2.2 trillion, if they ever get it

They must be following instructions from someone else. It has been reported that 30-40% of all project money goes into the pockets of politicians. coffee1.gif

  8. I'm afraid Brad Adams thinks too much from a Western World perspective. He would do better to start talking about all democratic principles and not only on ballots and votes.

When regional political families 'control' 'their' voters those votes start to loose their democratic value. When a rice farming village doesn't (dare to) vote against their landlords or 'knows' what to expect in return from who they vote for as some poster wrote the democratic principles are totally distorted.

Under such conditions brought to the open by the undemocratic actions of the now caretaker government, an election just for the fun of it seems a futile exercise costing 3.7 billion Baht. Better spent of a reform forum.

That's your opinion, sweetheart. Likewise farmers and reds think that the protesters are goons controled by elite interests.

Differences of opinion should be settled by vote. You seriously diminish the East by saying this is a Western perspective. No, it's about human rights and equality, east/west/south/north.

If this is true, why are the farmers joining the protest against the corrupt government. They turned over the product of their hard work to the government, than the government did not pay the farmers.
