It is ILLEGAL for under eighteenyear olds to buy alcohol and tobacco. Why is it so difficult to enforce this law for cannabis so adults can make their own mind up?

I'm not getting into a debate about this but Barclays, Lloyds, Netwest etc. operate branches in Jersey and the Isle of Man which are to all intent and purposes are UK branches - they have UK sort codes and can receive the all important UK state pensions WITHOUT any transaction charge like sending to a non-UK account would involve. I have transferred all my DDs to a UK bank 'International' branch in the IoM which you CAN'T do with non-UK accounts. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck - then I call it a duck.

OH YES IT IS! You get an international (off-shore, but UK bank sort code) account but they are not cheap, some require INITIAL proof of income, I think Barclyas charge 40 pounds a month if you can't do that. Saying that, Barclays were willing to accept ANY UK address I gave them (so the bod on the phone said when he was going through the account closure) but I seriously doubt this.

Uh has anybody thought of ID checks on age? Like for alcohol and cigarettes? But this would require an enforcement of the rules by the police so an outright ban is WAY WAY easier. Meanwhile I am sure yaba dealers are checking the ages of the patrons they sell to - at prices A LOT LOWER than ganja is selling for.

The ninety-day Visa exempt suggested by the new PM might be an option, if it ever happens - I assume this would be extendable by another thirty days - but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Reminds me of a story my friend told me, who booked a flight from London to Bangkok with Aeroflot, via Moscow. The outgoing flight was delayed so he arrived too late to pick up the Moscow Bangkok one. He went to the transit desk and asked when the next flight would be. "Tuesday", he was told. "But today is Wednesday" he replied. "Da". OK, he said, I go visit Moscow while I wait. Where I get worthless Soviet money to spend? "Nyet", was the stern reply Sorry No can DO (this was back in the good ole days). No visa, no leave airport. So he spent the next six days living life to the full in Moscow Airport.
