  1. I cycle up to the 3035 and then follow it until it meets the 108 and then cycle back through San Patong, but (even with my new radar, which tells me if something is 140 metres away so I look at my mirror and decide whether they are going to squash me or not) am aware it is not the safest. Anybody know of a good SAFE route? I've used the cycle path along the canal road 121 to Chiang Mai but it is spotty at best and often blocked on market days. Also it disappears about five kilometres from CM - you're on your now kiddo! Jordee! Also go down through Ban Tawai and turn right and follow the Ping and then back on the 108 again - the river road is quite quiet. Sometimes go left and follow it the other way into CM town and then back on the 108. But I am painfully conscious it just needs one idiot to cream me.
  2. Have had yearly checkups at Chiang Mai Ram for many, many years (twenty?) and don't think I paid more than 8 or 9 thousand for the complete package. They did spot "occult blood" which turned out to be polyps (had a tube stuck up my b*m back in Europe to confirm and yep there they were, snipped off and told benign - went back after after five years last year and told I'm clear). No-brainer - if I had ONE of these tests they do (out of twenty or thirty, EKG, chest X-ray, lower body ultra-sound, loads and LOADS of blood tests for everything including some major cancers) back in Switzerland they would cost me 5-10 thousand baht EACH. Also my medical insurance doesn't cover preventive stuff like that (has to be recommended by a doctor because you are showing symptoms) so I would have to shell out for them. I get the results and give it to my Swiss doctor who actions anything needed, which is next to nothing luckily. Touch wood. On a cynical note I think the tests are cheap - but they hope you get the treatment there which is expensive. That Colonoscopy (b*m job) thing - 38k baht I believe in CMR but have got it done at half price here with Swiss medical insurance (full price paid). Next time they tell me I have polyps I'll fly to Switzerland and get it done there half price - the saving almost pays for the air-fare.
  3. This article gets republished almost every year which is a sad indictment of what once was a good example of journalism become a sad regurgitator of news scraped off by Google to fill virtual column inches. And they expect people to pay good money for this. I used to buy (and read) this paper when it was a broadsheet back in the eighties and nineties. It was a good balanced UNBIASED organ (admittedly not quite unbiased, left-leaning but not a problem for me) that I used to enjoy reading. It's just an internet cobbled-together web page now by amateur so-called journalists (obviously paid per article) who are embarassingly inept. And INCREDIBLY biased.
  4. That was the one and you weren't the first that happened to.
  5. What about if there was a male version that (how shall we put this politely) didn't come in thirty seconds? Oh sorry it's called a <deleted>.
  6. Also, there are extensive extensive links saying alcoholics first drank beer and cider so we should ban them as well. (apologies I am not the first to point this out - what I have to read all the previous stuff?)
  7. There used to be an exit fee (paid in cash and you had to use a special machine) that had to be attached to EVERY boarding-pass (Thai/non-Thai) before you could leave the country. The logic (?) being tourists can afford it and Thais who fly abroad can also.
  8. And I was pointing out that it it isn't a theory it happens in practise as well. Your snippy comments were unnecessary
  9. If it was irrelevant why did you remark on it? As the OP stated/asked: I remember someone posting last year that 2 entries per calendar year applied to airport entries. Is it really only for land crossings? Which I attempted to answer - so why the beef on your part?
  10. If it's well known why did somebody ask it? Is there some point to this? What exactly ARE you contradicting what I posted?
  11. My point was there is no fixed limit (as appears to be for land crossing) on number of visa exempt entries by air - which somebody asked.
  12. Before the pandemic I was coming to Thailand monthly (direct to CNX from SIN) and staying a week. Did that half a dozen times on the trot. Never had a problem.
  13. Wow! Good advice. That's an important safety note I might have missed ???? P.S. the great thing about cycling is when drunk you lose your sense of balance and you CAN'T cycle - built-in safety feature eh? ????
  14. On the balcony of your hotel room. Don't have a balcony? Get a better room (or hotel) then. Safety note: keep away from the balcony edge! Hope this helps. Historical note: Baden-Powell slept on his balcony winter and summer his entire life.
  15. I was asleep but it was DEFINTELY after 9 pm and more like 10 or 11. The cheek was, I pointed out when settling my bill they had forgotten the airport taxi fare, but was ignored - and then when it was discovered the receptionist wanted to come up to my room IMMEDIATELY to settle the bill. I had strong words the next day. Hotel was by the beach and starts with an "H".
  16. Seriously? Went to Hua Hin and Chiang Mai, popped into a couple of cannabiis shops. Bought some, smoked some. NOWHERE did I see stoned tourists wandering about clueless. Next year I will have been smoking this stuff for fifty years. No problem with my memory. No problem with my... oops Let's face it, it was ALWAYS here and you could ALWAYS buy some. My first contact was my wifes friend who was married to a police corporal - so no worries there. She delivered a Thai stick that knocked me out for (a timeless time) maybe an hour or two, Too strong. Now I can peruse the shops, roll a medium strength joint or two, Life is good.
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions. Star Visa sounded interesting but I leave CM tomorrow night (as always we left it too late).
  18. We tried our bank - nope, not a bank document. Then tried my dentist who threw up her hands in horror. Tomorrow we will try CM Ram - maybe get lucky there. Anybody got any better ideas?
  19. Checked out of the hotel the night before so no queue and waiting. Pointed out to the receptionist that they missed our taxi frare from/to the airport.. Ignored. Went to bed, went tt to sleep, receptionist phoned me up (waking me) saying they had made a mistake and could I sort it out NOW? Nope. Went back to sleep. Complained the next morning. Did I over-react?
