  1. Thanks that was a fascinating read & seems quite logical & in agreement with many other cardiologist info on the subject I have read. Here is another good read I recently found a year or two ago When You Really Need a Stent (or Don't)
  2. Oh trust me we can all see that ????
  3. Nice pigeonhole you got there ???? So I guess you also believe any Asianized falangs are no better than Asians? ????
  4. Actually many Thai women have also found this place but usually as wives ???? Although we have met a few single ones who came for studies
  5. True but as in all things there are two types of retirees. Especially in a developing nation known for sex trade & cheap cost of living. So yes there are folks like yourself who pay their way & behave responsibly & there are those living on a wing & a prayer. It is the latter a country like Thailand fears because as you say they will disappear in a few years but countries like Thailand already stretched caring for their own worry about the influx of older folks in their final stretch not being able to properly care for themselves.
  6. I would like to give Andorra a try ???? But truthfully my wife & I are very happy as is with not much money but a great home paid for in our current country & a paid for home in Thailand where we visit 3 months a year. Almost every day though we ask ourselves would we like to go back to full time in Thailand & in many ways we would (We previously lived full time in Thailand from 2011-2017) But as it stands we live in a beautiful mountain setting here at 4000' elevation & temperatures are always between 13-23c & crystal clear air quality AQI averages under 10 Again we are not rich but happy. We are not sure why we even question going back to full time in Thailand... I guess family & there is always something we miss...albeit much we also do not miss too...Immigration,bad air, dangerous roads, heat 555
  7. Strictly speaking no it is supposedly for one year living expenses which is kind of funny considering they make you keep it locked up at times. But yes that aside not really as emergency medical fund because as above if you used them at certain times your visa extension would be jeopardized or worse. Lastly these days 800k could be gone in less than a week in ICU I had a friend just go thru 600k in 3.5 days due to Thrombectomy. So 800k expat deposit fund is not very reassuring to hospitals anyway
  8. Actually every Go Fund Me page is another red flag If anything I think any government in Thailand's near future will insist on a expat visa extension having a health insurance policy or X-Million Baht in a separate account (not your visa account) that is accessible by hospitals should you be admitted unconscious Basically as you said but sooner than later me thinks ????
  9. Yes & Yes right up until the time they will allow the 250 BS senators to actually sway the vote & decide who will be PM Then it is once again not a clean election at all is it? ????
  10. For sure I mean generally expats that can afford better do not retire to Thailand (of course there are exceptions with family etc) But "generally" the expat population is made up of folks with thin pensions that go much farther in Thailand. So Thailand has been a wonderful choice as you can live a better life for less. But..When all the higher levels come so do the costs of living. When the minimum wages start really climbing the owners/producers etc are not going to just pay them. They will raise the prices of all things to offset expenses That dog chasing its tail scenario brought on by labor unions in the west decades ago has shown most what comes next. Sadly at the end of day the cost of living rises & the min wage workers never do catch up no matter the new minimum.
  11. Yeah sadly there are some real unfair or different Property Taxes in different States Luckily although I live in what is considered a very high cost of living State the property taxes are very fair if it is your residence. Plus they gave more & more exemptions as you aged here So my property taxes are very low per year. maybe $30 a month On the other end my daughter lives in Oregon & they pay $500 a month Crazy difference & not really fair IMHO Primary residence should have little to no tax as it does here
  12. Truth is in Thailand visit a ER for a REAL emergency & you will need to show payment before they touch you. I just had a pal go to Lanna Hospital in Chiang Mai having a stroke. They made him wait till proof of payment came thru. He came in speaking but is left side of body was already stroke paralysis & he could not speak by the time they operated to remove an embolism from brain thru main groin artery Luckily he did regain speech & movement afterwards but.... 3.5 days in Lanna hospital total cost 650,000 baht Contrast that with any ER in the USA where they would work on you first & worry about insurance & bill later. If you did not have $$ you would still be covered by Medicaid. If you do have money but cannot pay all a plan is easily achieved,. So yes compare with Thailand is not cut & dried. Yes tests are cheap in Thailand real emergencies are not & good luck to anyone who thinks flying home is always an option or Go Fund Me another ????
  13. Well it is all relative. Expensive yes to a newbie showing up now & wanting to own what folks like us (although not NY but a State with a considered high COL) took decades to own But....once there all paid off (we were debt free by 52 years old) no mortgage etc etc cost of living is quite low in our case. Yes we are not the type to spend on eating out as we eat healthy at home. Our recreation is staying fit so that also does not cost us except for initial equipment. Truthfully shopping at say Target for things we often say it is cheaper than Thailand. For instance a whole fresh pineapple is $2 or 69 baht. Things like fresh ground coffee $7/242 baht for 300 grams...we pay more in Thailand for less coffee at a roaster. We know as we lived full time in Thailand for nearly a decade & still go to our home there 2-3 months a year, Then when you add in the freebies we get here like Medicare or even if you buy insurance which often you cannot in Thailand after xx age. Shopping at Target again...They offer a thing called cartwheel. You just scan your things you purchase then you get discounts or cash back. A current offer is you spend $120 three times in a month I believe it was...Then you get a $30 cash card back Many things actually again I am not just thinking about it I live in both places. Yes if I had to rent it would be more than Thailand. But sorry those who didn't plan & are now retired are not the majority. Most folks like us are not rich at all & live on a small pension in two countries very comfortably. Lastly the State we live in is considered as very high cost of living...again for those that didn't plan. Young folks do just as well while working & still buy homes etc & build equity if their smart. Later finding life as we do quite affordable
  14. Actually quite the opposite God not only allowed but creates it & continues to do so daily as it is a creators/ God's free will to do so. God/We are all creators & we create all/ the duality of both good & evil as we like. Sadly though I do think most creators of suffering are like a kid with a high pressure water hose that then lets it loose & enjoys watching the mayhem
  15. This could be as black flag as it gets. It could instead give the BS250 the excuse to say..."See this is what is expected of anti establishment"
  16. Not like that is possible is it? If they wait as suggested & the BS250 put Prayut or Prawit or worse yet Anutin in as PM then that wait is 4 years not next year Secondly who is to say Prayut or Prawit wouldn't then extend the BS 250 seats another X amount of years? It is not like they have not destroyed constitutions & elected governments before.
  17. I agree Pita is a A+ candidate & hope he succeeds Whether or not he is allowed to is another story & we wait to see That problem of needing 376 seats is a tough nut as long as the 250 BS seats are allowed to decide this. End of day TIT & we all know this but ????????????
  18. Funny but many Expats like to bang on about their home country politics precisely because they are "X-Patriots" Truthfully they should not complain as they are only lip syncing about how the cake should be baked that they as X-patriots no longer have to eat Then they move to a country like Thailand which is taken over by force/Junta & complain from there about politics/nanny state etc back home 555 kind of funny when you think about it
  19. It may be.......Or it may not We have yet to see what happens with the Junta in disguise as 250 BS senators with a vote they do not deserve Let's hope all goes well but TIT
  20. Power junkies like him do not retire Don't let his BS acceptance fool you. They will try with the 250 BS senators & perhaps Anutins 70 seats or other cronies to upstage MF 310 seat Party
