  1. Talking about paying fines,I have a question to you folks. But first this:many years ago, when passing another car with my car, there were suddenly a fully drawn line in my drivingdirection,(and a "dotted" one on the other side) which we all know means, that I am not allowed to pass another vehicle there. I was almost past already, but missed it by a few meters.Got caught and had to pay a fine. Now,what can you do in a situation like this? Ram the other car, dissapear into thin air, break like crazy or what? I think the rule is,that you are not allowed to START passing, and already beeing there, you are allowed to finish in normal fashion.I have asked around, but nobody seems to know,or even understand, this question....The closest I have come was when asking a high-ranking Thai official, handling Thai DLs,he cleverly answered: It`s the same rule as in your country...

  2. Excuse my ignorence;what is a "keyboard mini connector"?Where to find it? My laptop is an Acer aspire 4920. One key doesn`t work, the "p".How to remove the keyboard? Don`t want to destroy the complete laptop....

  3. Why would you stay at a "higher end hotel" and do your own ironing?

    Kind of defeats the object.

Would you cook your own food in such a place? If so, it's called a motel or a serviced apartment.

I arrived too late to get same day laundry service. Needed a shirt to go out for the evening. I grew up poor, and

still am in the habit of doing certain things for myself.

When I take long walks or tours with my bicycle, some people ask me "why don`t you use your car" Or when I build my pool myself:"Why don`t you hire people to do the work" and so on.The answer is,I like to do these things!! What I do not like,is hanging around and do nothing all day: Find it strange, that so many folks think that doing that (nothing ) is the essens of life. But each to him self, those of us who have the choice are lucky!
  4. marchawkes hallo! I think I stated very clearly in my latest post, that "any native Thai is wellcome to participate,at least by me".But I think, that even a Thai person, young or old,who put his tale on a public forum like this, must, like everybody else, accept that some people will voice an opinion on it.Isn`t that a part of why we do it?Even you started off your post by saying "I don`t agree with SC:s behavior" !!! The reason I asked YOUNG people in my Thai family concerning SC:s views was that he seems to indicate, that all the criticism comes from "ageing farang",which in his mind means, that young people have a different take on his story.Which,in turns means,to him, that young people are not wellcome.Actually,I do not recall ANYBODY,who has said something like that!NOBODY criticise him for beeing young or Thai;what people react to,is how he blames the young girls, who perhaps work in the familybusiness and feel pressured, for the result of his selfish actions, let`s his father clean up the mess and then act in the same way again!!If I,an ageing farang, would come out with a similar story,I think the roof on the forum would fall down on me...BTW,it was not my expession, kon baa, even if I am responsibel for putting it on print.

  5. Well,SC,as the name "ThaiVisa" indicates,it is a forum for people not borne in this country. We seek advice and information from each other, concerning visum, places to eat and so on.Certainly any native Thai is very welcome to participate,at least by me,but a fail to see,how this forum can be of much interest to any young person, especially Thai.Me.for instance, have no interest to join some forum, where most of the people are young Thais.Or from any other nationality for that matter..And if I did,I certainly would not expect the majority of them to share my views on things..In conclusion,I think you have to accept, that the "ageing farangs" on this forum do not see eye to eye with your opinions.Try some forum for young Thais! But I can tell you this: For fun,I asked some young people in my wife`s family what they thought about your OP.The answer was :kon baa! (crazy person) Last, your "Thailand is a forum..." Well, correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think, that Thailand is a forum! It is a country,a nation. ThaiVisa is a forum.

  6. Okey, okey, get it ! My "pondering" is over.(See my OP). I realise that I am up over my head with this, especially if going alone.Furthermore, what finally put me off,is the thought of beeing a "guest" with the Talibans, when attempting to cross north of Afghanistan...Didn`t think of that before.

Back to my daily 20 km trips, and perhaps one longer to Chiang Mai.Anyone can advise on best roadalternativ, going from Lom Sak/Chumpae to said city?

Feel a bit stupid about the U-turn,but I have to let the facts speak...

  7. To cupofcoffee, it is that the values espoused by the ruling class and Thai culture are so far away from reality, and yet NO ONE dares to change anything.

Either they are wilfully ignorant, in denial, or they are stupid.

The last line, does one have to choose??

No one has to, but sometimes for a given person, it can be all three.

Thankyou Thai at Heart;what a relief!!Now I can stop sweating over which alternativ to choose..!
  8. A lot of (good) advise to take to heart.Thankyou all for your concern! But it seems, that many people would like to make their ladies to accompany me,something I am a bit undecided about how to view: is it tempting or is it frightening??!Anyway, perhaps I should start with something more achievable, where I don`t need a fold-up coffin, like Pattaya-Jomtien.A wellcome party, sponsered by the blond, would be ok!

  9. He,he,Puyai!Yepp, what challenges can a guy not take on,just to get away for some time...Well,just joking. My wife understands me very well;she is even desperatly trying to put a team together for me,so I can be on my way."The sooner, the better",she says.I am not convinced that she refers to the weather.."It will take a long time to do this trip" I says. "It takes what it takes",she replies." But perhaps you will forget me" I says,a bit concerned."Nah,no way;how can anyone ever forget you" she answers.Somehow,it doesn´t sound reasuring to me;perhaps she has some "ulterior motiv" as they say.?

On a more serious note;nope,no sponsers.Exept for "MrRealDeal",though I am not sure, that it is the real deal..Let`s wait and see, perhaps there will crop up somebody, who like me want to have an adventure, even if it turns out to be the last one.At my age,not so much to lose,so perhaps i go alone if I have to.Maybe bring along "cooked",if there are no hairs on her breasts,he,he!

Just read balo.I do enjoy life here, very much.Actually,I have got most everything in life, that I could ask for and more. That`s why I can relax and if my life comes to an end,so be it.As I said, not so much left of it and by that I mean,to be able to live the way I think is worth living. But thanks for your input!

  10. I am pondering a trip by bicycle to scandinavia, but I realise it would be tricky to go alone for various reasons. If beeing a small group of cyclists, lets say 4-6 people, there would be some margin for pitfalls and also some security. It would also be possible to split up now and then,if people have different views of something.

I will not provide any details;I do not have any at this stage. Those have to be worked out together,if there are anyone interested.

For my own part,I think about 100km/day,5 times/week could be ok.Little more, little less, depending on roadconditions, weather and so on.

For now,I just checking if there is any interest for this.

  11. Perhaps I missed something, but how can you talk to her mum and husband and others? Does it mean, that you speak exellent Thai,or do the Thai people speak your language? If it is the latter, there are uaually only two alternativs;either they are all extremely well educated,or,they have been in the "business" for a long time.Take your pick...

  12. I received exactly the same answer as wayned.Perhaps it is because I have lived here for many years and thus not expect much,or anything, from a complaining e-mail,that I was pleasently surprised to get an answer.and a long one too....The listing on the net was useful, but they have not yet desided whether to go on with it or not.Hopefully they will!
