Electric Vehicles in Thailand
josephbloggs replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
It sounds amazing. https://www.engadget.com/xiaomi-says-its-su7-ev-can-outperform-porsche-and-has-more-tech-than-tesla-095637762.html -
I have seen signs on stations recently to beware of pickpockets which I don't remember seeing before, maybe it is known that this is happening. Also signs warning of sexual harassment and upskirt photos. It's definitely worth contacting the MRT as there is CCTV all over the stations and also on trains. Maybe they can help identify them?

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
josephbloggs replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Well there you go, consider me educated. For some reason I always had it down as a low end vehicle, seems I was wrong - that looks nice inside. I also didn't know it was that speedy and had such a good electric capacity. Thanks for the info. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
josephbloggs replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I would agree that makes sense. In its current guise it is not an attractive car (for me), even with the discount. But also agree it is great for the consumer - long may it continue as we have never seen this price competition before in Thailand. -
It is very close to a certain police station. but it is just outside of the Penny's Balcony complex that contains She Bar and HOBs. Maybe that block only has a restaurant license and Mellow has a bar license. I have no idea, although what you are implying could also well be true - I have no idea who owns it in reality. The previous independent owner of HOBs was in business with a senior man in uniform and was, let's say, "bought out" by them, so it seems weird why they don't have the same leeway that Mellow does, unless it has since changed hands again (quite possible).

Yeah, I have been here since 1995 and it definitely wasn't in effect then. It started getting enforced under Thaksin and Purachai in the early 2000's along with other genius ideas like not being able to buy alcohol at service stations. Even today there are 7-11's on the frontage road off the Rama 9 motorway that don't sell booze (even though they are not connected to the motorway) whereas one around the corner from them can as it is deemed off the main road. Ludicrous. The mighty Thaksin also closed petrol stations nationwide at midnight to "save energy". Brilliant! The 2pm to 5pm thing is the most illogical of all though - at least there is some logic about not selling at service stations. Every single pub in Bangkok can sell all day, some restaurants can, some can't. No shops or supermarkets can, although Villa used to ignore it but eventually they stopped too. On Thonglor you have three places in a row: HOBs no alcohol 2pm to 5pm, She Bar no alcohol 2pm to 5pm, but Mellow sells all day. Who knows how it works.....

Thanks for your educated insight, very enlightening. Ah yeah, good old Donald who claims EVs need to be charged every 15 minutes, or who claims Biden says all cars must be EVs in ten years (he didn't - but he is proposing emission standards just like everywhere else in the modern world, how automakers achieve those targets is up to them ). Nothing is being forced down your throat (although obviously I don't know about your personal life). Let's all hail the lying, rambling, incoherent orange buffoon, yay!

Redundancy Lawyers
josephbloggs replied to josephbloggs's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thanks, and no he didn't P##s anyone off, they just got rid of the highest paid people regionally and it is unwarranted (but nothing can be done). They are following labour laws to the letter but he has been advised this can be challenged and can be negotiated (potentially, but also maybe not). Personally I think he should take the 240 days and he doesn't have a chance of getting more, but seems there might be a possibility of negotiating. Will see. Will post back here for everyone's information. -

That is my opinion too but he wants to find out for sure. Happy to report back here when I find out what he is told. -
Redundancy Lawyers
josephbloggs replied to josephbloggs's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thank you. The other two directors are foreign. It is a foreign owned company and part of a global organisation and he was dipatched by the regional CEO. He can easily find his own lawyer but was I was looking at anyone with first hand experience or recommendations to help out. So thank you. -
Hi all. A good friend of mine was just made redundant. He was the MD of the company and also one of three directors. He was put on three months' garden leave and then will be terminated with 240 days' severance which appears to be according to the law. The company have already announced they will seek a replacement therefore the position isn't redundant, they just want somebody else who is cheaper. Can anyone recommend a good labour lawyer in Bangkok? He would simply like to find out what his rights are (if any) and if he has to accept the settlement or can appeal or negotiate. I know in the UK you can refuse the offer and negotiate a better payout but not sure about here. Any help or recommendations much appreciated.

Is this the future for EV cars?
josephbloggs replied to kwak250's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
This post is a perfect example of how open minded and honest EV owners are on this forum. Not trying to force them on anyone, not saying they are they are going to save the world, not saying they are better than anything else, just that for certain lifestyles they make perfect sense and have many advantages. If only the anti-EV brigade could be so honest or willing to look at both sides. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
josephbloggs replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I took my petrol Volvo XC40 for its 60k kms service a couple of days ago. All good. I knew my brake pads felt worn so I mentioned it and they checked them. They said come back on Jan 30th and we'll replace all your brake pads - for free - as I am inside the 5 year warranty period. ! never ever had that before, brakes were always considered wear and tear like tyres and were not covered by the warranty on any of my previous cars. So great service, and, erm, Volvo is a Chinese owned brand of course. Legacy makers are in trouble, they can't match the prices, quality, or service of the Chinese brands it seems. The industry has never seen disruption like this. -
Thai Team Wins Top Prize at Ice Sculpture Contest in Harbin
josephbloggs replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Only on AN can someone believe the press decided to get together and invent a story about Thais winning an ice sculpture competition for students. The mind boggles. -
REad this today from the AA. Interesting. They say next year they expect the same amount of callouts for dead EV batteries as for (idiots) who run out of fuel. Range anxiety becoming a thing of the past? Yes, this is the UK and nothing to do with Thailand, but many posters have used the UK's charging infrastructure to bash EVs generally. Seems it is less and less of an issue. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/electriccars/article-12926897/EV-breakdowns-low-battery-drop-lowest-levels-record-AA-says.html

I don't know, I like those trucks with the mirrors, the ones covered in Michelin men, the outrageous and impressive paint jobs, the oaches with the front lined with speakers, they all add to the distinct flavour of Thailand. But I draw the line at fake exhausts, especially on an EV.
-
Agree, any fake exhaust on any car is horrible. I was thinking maybe to give him/her the benefit of the doubt as it might be someone with a sense of humour........but then I saw the front with a God ugly bodykit on. Definitely not trying to be self deprecating or funny, just someone with no taste that has ruined what is a perfectly lovely looking car.
-
Going back to the subject of BYD, I think the Atto 3 is a great looking car. But saw this monstrosity today. I mean, why would you put fake quad exhausts on it?? The mind boggles.

I had to use a secondary device - I have Line on my laptop so opened the QR code on there and scanned it with my phone.
-
Yes, I have successfully done it in the past when I needed to get money to her. Direct her to a Bangkok Bank ATM, I open my app to start a cardless withdrawal, the ATM displays a QR, she takes a pic and sends it to me, I scan it to approve the transaction and then money magically comes out. Easy.
-
Yeah, you are always near an ATM in Thailand (Bangkok anyway) but it can be a bit of a pain when you need cash and there isn't one of yours around. My daughter called me in a pickle recently as she didn't have cash and the ARL wouldn't take True Money (and she had left her ARL card at home). I was going to get her to do cardless cash and send me the QR code but there were no Bangkok ATMs within a km or more. Anyway I rarely use ATMs at all as prefer to do most things on my phone. But I think I would always prefer to have a physical ATM card unless one day you can do cardless in any machine. There's no downside to having one, they are quick and easy to replace. Plus you need them if travelling overseas.
