My firiend wants to buy a beer bar.
1FinickyOne replied to ozimoron's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Does that mean he bought a place w/fake books? Then it is just on the word of the seller, unless he knows the place well and sees the customer stream.. nothing wrong with doing your due diligence and checking the place out regularly... Seems to me an awful business, dealing w/drunks etc.. would not be fun... Is it still true that most bars in Pattaya lose money? I would have a lot of questions... and he should too... -
Is that still a thing? So much has changed - my cars in hot hot Thailand do not overheat, do not blow hoses, tires rarely go flat and then seem to not leave me stranded... no tune-ups. But, what about a breaking in the engine period of varying speeds - - is that still recommended?

It is a going concern so he should be able to have the correct numbers and do the math and decide for himself... If the owner does not have correct books, then it is not really worth buying - - how can you value a business w/o the numbers... unless he is looking at it like an ice cream cone or a new suit - something he just wants... if he is just going by the owners word, who would benefit greatly by a misrepresentation, then it is just how much he trusts the honesty of the owner... He won't be the first one to buy a business after being told it makes 100k a month only to find out the real figure is not even close. I saw a bar once that was being sold and the night the customer was to arrive to check it out, the bar was packed w/people having a great time... all shills. As I have been told, 90% of all bars lose money, if he thinks the girls will love him - they will hate him eventually. He is much better off just going into a bar as a regular and buying lady drinks for the girls.. far less expensive in the long run. -
Does your Thai partner know much about history outside of Thailand?

I was responding to another poster who said Thai only care about money. -

Why should they care about geography and history more than they care about feeding their family? How many people in your hometown know where Nakhon Sawan is located? If you offered someone from your home town that you will show them where Nakhon Sawan is on a map and tell them of the history there or they could have $20 - - do you think anyone will not take the money? do you bash people from your home or just Thais? -
It really is about the money, eh? Plenty of price varying in USA but people don't cry about it so much as that is the system they are born into... but, if it were only 1 baht more, would you waste your time and energy moaning about it and citing this phony principles stuff? Or, it really wouldn't matter - - I would imagine there are many 'variations' that you might consider financially favorable toward yourself - - but you only look at one side of the equation - - how much would it cost a Thai person to enter your home country? We live in their country for pennies on the dollar... and that is just the visa... Most of us can just walk off the plane and enter free.. a Thai cannot do that in my country - first, they start w/a $150 application fee... which is not refundable and for most, likely will not be accepted. If you are so principled about perceived injustices, why don't you fight for entry equality in your home country? Or in my country? or does your fight for principles only apply to when it costs you a penny?

what about a system for just my pool?

I would start with a sign in the lobby... in Russian if you seek only Russian buyers...

yes, normal, but maybe healthy too -
I have a Will and executor in my home country - - I also have a contact w/a foreign lawyer in Thailand to assist w/the process of being a contact as my family does not speak much English... and I have a Will here for my assets here. Sure, I would love to set up a trust for my kid but who do you trust here or anywhere to administer things? I am working at teaching about money and run into many issues such as not wanting to extinguish ambition and productivity but... are those Western values that don't matter much here? Many issues to deal with...

why would you care? I believe in a free world where people can eat the rice of their choosing - or not... Any rice, any time... that's the world I want to live in... -

Are you still out there socially at your age ?

You know, sometimes it is called maturing... even 20 year olds don't continue enjoying the same activities they did when they were 7 years old... when you have been to enough songkran festivals, or running of the bulls in Pamplona... you move on to other things... -
If I subscribed to spotify, by what means can I listen in my car? Should I download songs or playlists to a USB stick? Do you use your phone somehow? And if so how? I am low tech... so, easy simple explanations are best.

And yet, there are other faults that you have, habits that others don't have that you do? Right?
