  1. I lived near 20 years in a farming village - I love it more and more each year, especially in comparison to what my friends are enduring in the West. It's not perfect but my wife has a very large and wonderful family. And I am more impressed as I learn more or at least witness more each year.... I think some of it is a matter of assimilation, some things that might bother others here don't faze me a wit...
  2. How many do you know past their skin? Do you speak Thai and can talk with typical country people? They are wonderful... open and friendly and funny sometimes too... of course, you have to get past their tourist rap if you are living in a tourist area...
  3. OH NO NO NO!!! yes, I think I bought Stevia that was like 1 or 2% stevia... I am using Lokanta... it's expensive but it seems to work ok - monk fruit, 0 calories... 200 baht for a sneeze.
  4. That's great - - what time is dinner served? Or would you prefer live-in?
  5. In that case, in addition to the payout period, does solar have any effect on resale value of a home?
  6. The kindness of Thai people happens to me often - - total strangers who help out and refuse any money... it is quite heart warming and glad that your friend had the same experience...
  7. When my parents died my brother held some sort of roast type ceremony where people told funny stories and everyone was going to have a great laugh, surely often at the expense of the deceased. My mother, would have hated that. I declined to attend as I would have found it way over the line as to being respectful. But that was all part of their 60 is the new 40 psychobabble hip lifestyle.
  8. I usually can - - and I have seen Western customs that are just as weird... and as mentioned above, these funerals go on for days and the all night card games are not meant as disrespect, more as keeping the family of the deceased company...
  9. first - they should always wai you first and then you should return the wai And only after that can you drink champagne from their slipper..
  10. where do you think your boring friends got their information - - now, they can just update here
  11. Something most of us don't really aspire towards being... thus I have no usufruct or lease - -
  12. i dont have a problem w biscuits but with dishonest deceptive labels and packaging
  13. Where do you buy this 'scratch' that you are making your foods from?
  14. Sometimes I would think that online fraud is near impossible to track down - when the money is gone so is the criminal and there is no way to trace it. Sorry for your loss - but I think there is probably no way to recover the funds - - I assume they are no longer in business.
  15. Stirring something from years ago: Was there a famous place called Lobster Barn in Oqunquit? Or was that on Cape Cod? Maybe P-town?
  16. one day I was looking at homes to buy - one that I looked at had the a/c blasting on a hot day and the exterior doors were wide open... people will not care too much about your property. Many people have problems w/property managers - - collecting fees until there is a problem and not taking care of the place and pocketing rent money if the landlord is not there... Renters can be a problem - short term can be a huge problem.
  17. Yes. I read that there are 50 different names they are using for sugar... anything ending with ose - - sure, but they get creative... we are growing many fruits and veggies at home but... it seems particularly odious when companies deliberately mislead... but yes, glasses and patience...
  18. I know it is best to eat only fresh veggies etc and nothing packaged... however - - I just bought some biscuits labelled 0% Sugar... except in the fine print they have a sweetener that is way worse than sugar that is added... They say that most of the olive oil on the market is not 100% as advertised. It makes you question everything other than fresh produce as to honesty. Is there no punishment? Where in Chiang Mai might I purchase healthy items that are sure to be as advertised? Who do you trust?
  19. what are you expecting?
  20. There are a couple of ways to go about this in Chiang Mai depending on the budget. All much less expensive than what it might cost in USA... There is a range of price. And in home care works too. Vivo Bene in Doi Saket is first rate. There are others as well as Mckean.
  21. I had a taxi cab driver friend. A lady wanted to go to the Ambassador.. she was getting hysterical... he took her to the Embassy.
