Yo Fluffy - lots of pent up anger there... your posting this as "Thainess" was rather leading... you make a mistake, an understandable one, and you are a great guy for not screaming at her, though you wanted to... and you should know that meds are much more expensive in a hospital than a pharmacy, yet you chose to make the purchase... sounds to me as you blaming Thais for your lack of knowledge is more arrogant farang-ness than Thainess... The only thing they did wrong was not grant your every wish... even when it was against policy. Glad you survived but you need a chill pill too...

Sorry, I never scream and I do act rationally and accept the culture that I am living in... in the case of the OP, he also did not scream but was angry at someone who was just doing their job and who sounded sympathetic... he was just in the wrong place.

not just CM but I lived in a small Thai city w/near no farang... they had check points and were fining people for no helmets... it is not unusual everywhere and has nothing to do w/colored glasses... or other cliches

I spent a lot of time there around the year 2000 - - Does it still have its cha-arm? Visited once since then and the traffic was extreme going from the main road to the beach... How are things now? Methavalai was a great place to stay.. has that aged out or still ok? I would like to visit and stay along the beach - any high end recommendations? Can you still sit on the beach and have vendors bring lovely foods? Is the fisherman village at the north end of town still a good place to eat?

That is not even close to the truth... In CM [and other areas where there are nearly no farang] there are check points full of Thai being fined for not having helmets...

I can drive safely most of the time, going 50 in a 35 - - but in my home country, they give you a hefty fine for doing it... That is just how it is - we understand and either abide or pay the fine... What amuses me is when people come from other countries where they accept the laws and come here and have problem doing the same... why do people come to another country, another culture and question the laws?

The great litigious societies... where prices go to the moon as people carry insurance to protect them from litigation... often frivolous too. Think how lucky you were to be spared years of expensive, life disrupting litigation...

well, not in the manor maybe but Asians are being physically attacked in manner, due to race in my home country... including a vicious attack on a young Thai lady. There is a lot of open racism and sucker-punching etc... There is a lot of vicious discrimination in the world.. when you live in another culture, you can surely come to accept that things are often done differently than you might expect... I mean, why are all these people walking around saying sawasdee and smiling when they could just as easily say, "Good day fine sir, top of the morning to you" I mean the nerve of them...

no. it is a story about some doctors at a public hospital who were trying to help but probably did not know all the contingencies... and a patient who did not want to go to a more expensive private hospital where he would not have had to wait.. Nice guy -
