  1. Reminds me of the time the BIB busted an expat Bridge Club. Playing Bridge - The Crime Of The Century! Looks like playing board games are a close second in the BIB's assessment of Vice Crimes. Thailand's obsession with keeping the "little people" from gambling while planning to allow their wealthy friends to build casinos is just absurd.
  2. Lawrence Wilkerson is a retired U.S. Army Colonel who served as Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell from 2002 to 2005. His assessment of US President Donald Trump in this interview is scathing, and unfortunately as a US veteran, I agree with most of his assessment. I thought Trump had a real opportunity to change the course of US domestic and foreign policies for the better. I gave him 100 days. I no longer believe that. What I see right now I find extremely disturbing, and I'm now in agreement with many of our AN members on the political Left. Trump is out of his megalomaniacal mind, and he's about to sail the ship of state right into the rocks and shoals of avoidable disasters both domestically and globally. This is both sad and dangerous.

  4. I believe that the US will nuke underground nuclear sites in Iran. I give it a 50-50% chance that Tehran is nuked as well. Once the US enters the war, it will directly lead to a conflict with Russia and China and will start a World War.
  5. I've done many of those jobs that the media tells us that "Americans won't do....."
  6. Obviously things are heating up in the Middle East with Israel bombing Iran. However, Israel has asked the US to join in as an active participant. Trump is his typical manner stated he won't, then maybe he will, then maybe he won't, then maybe he will. The current theme is the constant repetition of the phrase: "Iran can't have a nuclear bomb," even though Iran stated that it has no ambitions to build a nuclear bomb. To me personally, this sound reminiscent to the Bush Administration repeating the phase: "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction." The latter gave the US the excuse to "Shock & Awe" Iraq with bombing campaigns and the eventual invasion. The repetition of the phrase "Iran can't have a nuclear bomb," is designed to create the same conditions for the US to enter an active hot-war with Iran even though no formal declaration of war has been voted on in Congress. Again - the President by himself will take America to war with another country in the Middle East. Do doubt the US will spend another 4 or 5 Trillion dollars on another forever war with Iran. -or- The Trump authorizes the Pentagon to simply drops nuclear bombs on Iran after which Trump will swagger and boast that he saved millions of US lives and trillions in US taxpayer money in the same manner as President Truman did after he bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So members of the AseanNow club of arm-chair generals - what say you? Be brave and take the poll!
  7. Translated: "Thailand is losing volume to Vietnam and other tourist location which are more welcoming, so it will shift focus to the "Rich & Wealthy" who aren't the types to take Elephant tours and jaunts to Pai.
  8. Thailand Boosts Tourism with Strategic Focus on Quality Markets Tomorrow they'll be an OP about how Thailand is losing the regular classes of average tourist to Vietnam as they focus on a handful of the "Rich & Wealthy" who collectively don't contribute much to the Thai economy. The "Rich & Wealth" prefer London, Monaco, New York, and Dubai.
  9. What things bore and annoy you most? bob smith and all of the other guys with multiple AN accounts who post absolute tosh which is then highlighted as "Popular Posts" for the next month when the original post only has 30 or so comments.
  10. When will human greed ever stop. There! You have your answer. Greed is a bottomless pit.
  11. This is how these scams work and why I have little sympathy. First off, with 12 miilion THB in saving this woman was "well off" by Thai standards and even by Western standard with over $360K in savings. With that kind of money she could have easily found a reputable brokerage firm to help her invest her money. All these firms offer investment advisors: Vanguard International Charles Schwab International Fidelity International But just sitting in a savings account - that's a hell of a nest egg for retirement. And as a retired nurse she is no doubt pulling a decent pension by Thai standards as well. That would put her squarely in the bracket of Thai upper-middle class. But the 12 million THB isn't good enough. And her own greed for more, more, more even though she has a solid retirement nest-egg just isn't enough. Loneliness put her in the position to be scammed. Greed lost her life savings. People consumed by greed don't get my sympathy when they get conned. Now she'll have to live on the pension alone which still puts her in a better position than the majority of retired Thais. Sad, but if people are greedy, then con artists can prey on them like lion packs on the Serengeti tracking gazelle. They are a match made in Romance Scam Hell. "The nurse was initially swayed by Da's TikTok videos, displaying a lavish lifestyle, and her affectionate messages." Lured by both Greed and by the Thai social weakness of wanting social status and to live not just comfortably - but lavishly. Worshiped as a "Rich, Wealthy Woman" in he village. I'm sure there are a ton of lonely, relatively rich female Thai retirees who are just ripe for this scam. They run this through their greed infested minds: "Instead of just 12 million THB I'll have 120 million THB and I'll live in a mansion and drive a Lamborghini, and rub shoulders with the Shinawatras. I'll be...special!" Getting scammed is the reward of unbridled Greed as well as unbridled ignorance. Now? You're a lonely retired nurse who has to live like most other ageing retired Thais. Too bad, so sad - sucks to be you. Will other Thais in her position learn a lesson? Nope. Greed + Desire For Social Standing = The Perfect Mark For Confidence Scams.
  12. Hope this guy isn't a fan of the Final Destination movies? 🤔
  13. There is a sucker in every crowd. And greed drives the con.
  14. Get your mRNA Covid shots ChrisKC and you won't be responsible for killing Grannie. You'll never, ever get Covid. You'll be 100% protected. Be a "No-Nonsense" kind of guy and keep up-to-date on all of your shots. Get them as often as they are offered. 100% Safe and Effective! “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.....If you’re vaccinated, you’re not going to be hospitalized, you’re not going to be in an ICU unit, and you’re not going to die.” -President Joe Biden, CNN town hall on July 21, 2021 Proof by the President of the United States himself!
  15. "A free market is a continuous process of voluntary transactions, with each participant trading value for value. Government intervention, whether through subsidies, tariffs, or regulations, distorts this process by introducing force, which negates the principle of mutual consent and benefit." -Ayn Rand, Philosophy: Who Needs It
  16. It will never happen. Why. First - the two tiered enforcement. Special people would get special treatment. Second - for the same reason that driving down a one-way street the wrong way only gets you a 500 THB fine. Fines are revenue generators, not sanctions.
  17. Was his plan to wait in line and ask questions with the rest of the media, or was his plan to disrupt the meeting? My guess is the latter. If it was the former, then he should not have been arrested. But it looks like his actions lead to the authorities in the room to see him as a threat. I don't condone bad conduct by Democrats or Republicans, and yet these members of Congress now feel completely immune to actions by law enforcement. "I'm a US Senator and I can disturb the peace and even commit crimes - BECAUSE I'm immune to prosecution. Don't touch me. Don't lay a hand on me. I'M SPECIAL." I looks to me like his intention was to create a disturbance during Noam's speech. Trust me - I'm no fan of Officer Barbie at all. But I'm no fan of illegal immigration. Yes! Legal immigration laws have needed an overhaul for decades but the exact people like Padilla refuse to engage in the overhaul and create equitable laws which allow for foreign workers to obtain visas and work in the US legally. The immigration processes need to be simplified and streamlined. But, "No!" The Congress and Senate from BOTH sides of the aisle, imho, WANT illegal immigration as opposed to creating legal and simplified ways for a foreign workforce to enter the US. Why? Democrats want voters legal or otherwise. Republicans want underpaid slave labor.
  18. Eventually you can just let AI out to assess how many times a year the same article is published, and then just allow AI to write the articles on a pre-determined timeline and save the money spent on hiring journalism students to write this boiler-plate. So, Immigration will be stopping by soon? Cool, I show them my passport, sign something stating that I'm not stealing jobs from Thais trying to put food into their children mouths, and then my wife has someone to talk to for an hour. My wife loves talking with the IOs and police when they stop by. Kui Kui Kui, Chat Chat Chat ❤️ I don't worry cause my paperwork is in order and I don't work, well unless some yaba high kids decide to stop on the street outside the house to listen to me blast bass guitar while I practice. *Oversized trolling emoji removed.*
  19. Make your own. Problem solved.
  20. If they reported the numbers of people who right at this moment are suffering from viral colds, the numbers who be staggering. In the meanwhile, I need to ask the question: "Has Covid Cured The Flu Once More?"
