  1. If you want to align with European norms, you start drinking at lunch time.
  2. Well said! ❤️
  3. No. You're compassionate. Good for you. ❤️ Kudos. You have my respect and my appreciation. However - how much of your money is used to support the "handicapped kids or homeless ones" and how much of your donation is used for "over-head expenses" like "salaries" and "expenses" for the non-profit. That is something to look into. Ask a non-profit for their financial statements. In the US, 501c non-profits are required by law to provide the public with those statements. They can be utterly shocking. Some non-profits are better than others. Look for the ones where most, if not all, of the donations go to the cause that the non-profits says it is supporting. Here in Thailand I'm not sure that the government requires non-profits to provide the public with their financial statement. TIT. If you want all of your donations to go to those who need it, then do it on your own - or - volunteer to work for the charity you support and get to know what your donations are being used to support. So being a pensioner as well, I am not rich, and I take care of feral, throw-away pets, and temple dogs in my Tambon. Unlike foundations and 501c non-profits, and those who make requests via the internet for donations, I do this out of my own pocket without the assistance of anyone. It's an exercise of compassion. This includes paying for animals to be spayed and neuter or buying meds to stop females from going into heat to the extent that I can. I don't ask for as much as a satang from anyone. Who thanks me? The animals I care for. Knowing that those animals I support are taken care of, are well fed, and are not reproducing is thanks enough. Compassion is its own reward. ❤️
  4. Neighbors burn garbage every night and the prevailing wind carry right to our house. Been this way for years. We have "Western" double-paned sliding glass windows and doors, and a rather air-tight, insulated home, and air con in the house. Burn away. You're not going to change your neighbors. Anyway, that have the right to smoke cigarettes on their own property, or in our case, when there are no "burn bans" to burn refuge on their property. So - either seal up your home, move, and live with it. Complaining feels great but accomplishes nothing.
  5. Bait the hook and being the slow idle across the lake. Number of posts says it all. I'm sure that are a few member who create second (third, fourth, fifth, nnnx) accounts to post this nonsense.
  6. Until Thailand puts police in patrol cars which stops drivers for moving violations (like weaving all over the road and driving erratically, speeding, reckless driver, etc) then they will never get a handle on the road fatalities and accidents. However, as long as we are on it - if Western police patrol car standards were applied to Thailand? 85% of the people on the road would get pulled over for "driving erratically." One part of the equation is enforcement using patrol cars, but the primary problem in Thailand is that the majority of the population don't have a clue how to actually drive. That includes the BIB. The driving tests are a ***king joke. If they want to apply Western standards like Western countries, begin with training the government transporatation officials to understand Western driving techniques and standards, then train "driving schools" to implement those standards, then mandate that drivers takes lessons from driving schools, and also earmark funds to teach driving courses and Western driving standards to teenager in the Thai equivalent of "High School" (M4-5-6). And make sure those kids see plenty of graphic dead bodies of road fatalities presented by the Road Traffic cops assigned to "public services outreach" to public school. I still remember the WSP coming to our high school to present "The Roads of Death" or something like that to our "Drivers Education Classes" in high school. "This person was three times over the drunk driving limit when he ran into the back of this truck (show man with the top of his head gone and his brains hanging out in brilliant Techa-Color." It has in impact. Anyway - will any of this happen? Never in a million years. So the carnage will continue and Thailand will continue to earn the coveted title of "The Number One Most Deadly Roads In The World" every two or three years.
  7. I know that in America, you can't buy a beer from 2pm to 5pm every day of the week. 😁
  8. Whatever happened to, "Thaksin will stay out of politics and live out his life visiting his grandchildren?" Looks like Tony has insinuated himself right back into the Thai political scene with every intention of running the show. Yingluck should be back in no time flat. I wonder what the military brass is thinking right now? 🤔
  9. If that was my child or grandchild, I'd resolve the issue myself.
  10. You forgot the "Sick Buffalo."
  11. Statement by UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell on children and the continued bloodshed in the Gaza Strip “Children didn’t start this conflict and they have no power to stop it, yet they are paying the highest price with their lives and futures. In the last 14 months, more than 14,500 children have reportedly been killed, and virtually all 1.1 million children in Gaza are in urgent need of protection and mental health support. Famine continues to loom in the north and humanitarian access remains severely restricted." https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/statement-unicef-executive-director-catherine-russell-children-and-continued Media Bias Fact Check
  12. It wouldn't be worth the paper the degree is printed on in the West.
  13. Dude - Trump is going to keep you entertained for the next four years. Otherwise you'd be bored out of your mind. But now - you can throw shade at Trump multiple times a week. It will add meaning to your life. You should be happy he was elected.
  14. History may not repeat, but it oft times rhymes. https://edition.cnn.com/2013/07/08/world/asia/thailand-american-killed/index.html
  15. I can remember watching a video on the old Thaivisa site. Some moronic woman yakking it up with a phone glued to her ear runs across the first two lanes of a 6 lane highway because the cars were stopped in the left and middle lane. She got creamed and joined the "Dying While Flying" clubs after getting hit by a car traveling in the far right (fast lane) of the highway. She didn't look or slow down. Ran right in front of the oncoming car from in-between two cars in the middle lane which were stopped. In typical Thaivisa manner, the TV detectives came to the conclusion that the car who was on a freeway traveling in the far-right lane was at fault. I doubt the car saw her until she ran from in-between the two cars stopped in the middle lane - they would have hidden her from view. . Nah - talking on the phone while running between cars on a freaking 6 lane freeway is perfectly normal. I've no sympathy for those wishing to join the Darwin Awards Club - I only have sympathy for the victims of their stupidity.

  18. Is there anything good about getting old? Grandkids. The beauty about grandkids is you keep them while their cute, and when then turn into a PITA you can send them home.
  19. Speaking for yourself JK-Trilly of 43 posts (figured as much).
  20. Nothing - Buddhist don't celebrate Christmas. You can give them a New Years gift though. Hell - they have three New Years here at a minimum.
  21. Are you back in town bob smith?
  22. It was a scheme to get votes for the party who promised the plods that, if they voted their party into power, they would in turn reward the voting public by opening the treasury up and showing the commoners with public money. Of course it was a lie. They are wringing their hands and plotting on how to renege without causing a social uproar, and my guess, create the conditions for another coup. It's called - "Vote Buying." Although not technically illegal in this case, it should be.
  23. Get over it. If you consider yourself more special than Russians. Just title your post: "I Hate Russians." Then we can get over the hypocrisy of, on the one hand, braying that we must be "tolerant" of all others lest they "trigger" us and cause us mental discomfort, and on the other, displaying our ethnocentrism, cultural superiority, and exceptionalism by throwing shade at an ethnicity and culture that about 2/3 of this community personally depise. Oh the cosmic, comic irony of it all.
  24. Nope - they'll raise it to 10%. "See - we didn't lie!" My guess if they raise the VAT they'll have riots in the streets. "We going to cut taxes for the rich, raise the VAT to 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10% and screw you "little people." Sucks to be you commoners!
